but to what shall I compare this generation? they are like children sitting in the markets, and calling out to their fellows, "if we play a merry tune, you are not for dancing; if we act a mournful part, you are not in the humour."

As soon as he entred into the temple, he drove out the sellers and buyers there: telling them it is written, "my house is a house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves."

the merchants of the earth shall bewail and mourn over her, because there are none to purchase their cargo: their gold, and silver, precious stones, and pearls, fine linnen, and purple, their silk, scarlet, and all sort of citron wood, their various vessels of ivory, and of precious wood, of brass, iron, and marble: nor their cinnamon, perfumes, essences, and frankincense; nor their wine, oil, fine flour, and wheat; their cattle, sheep, horses, and chariots; nor the servile souls of men.

Again, the heavenly kingdom is like a merchant-man, who is in quest of curious pearls: and meeting with one of great value, presently sells all that he has to make the purchase.

be therefore upon your guard to secure your selves, and the whole flock over which the holy spirit has made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.

weighing the circumstances of the season, because the times are dangerous.

Be prudent in your conduct to those, who are not christians: and make the best of of every opportunity.
