for do I now act in obedience to men, or to God? or do I seek to please men? if I had hitherto pleased men, I should not have been the servant of Christ.
we preach the gospel just as God thought fit to intrust it with us, not being studious to please men, but God, who approves our sincerity.
for the gospel dispensation does not consist in meats and drinks, but in piety and peace, and spiritual joy. for he that thus pays his allegiance to Christ, is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
so that they who are in a carnal state, cannot be acceptable to the divine being. as for you,
now without faith it is impossible to be acceptable to him: for he that presents himself to God, cannot but believe he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who make their addresses to him.
