'Yourself' in the Bible
and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:He will give His angels orders concerning you,and they will support you with their handsso that you will not strikeyour foot against a stone.”
Then Jesus told him, “See that you don’t tell anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses prescribed, as a testimony to them.”
honor your father and your mother;and love your neighbor as yourself.
The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
“I have sinned by betraying innocent blood,” he said.“What’s that to us?” they said. “See to it yourself!”
and saying, “The One who would demolish the sanctuary and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”
telling him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer what Moses prescribed for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
“The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.”
And to love Him with all your heart, with all your understanding, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself, is far more important than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
So he took Him to Jerusalem, had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here.
Then He said to them, “No doubt you will quote this proverb to Me: ‘Doctor, heal yourself. So all we’ve heard that took place in Capernaum, do here in Your hometown also.’”
Then He ordered him to tell no one: “But go and show yourself to the priest, and offer what Moses prescribed for your cleansing as a testimony to them.”
Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself don’t see the log in your eye? Hypocrite! First take the log out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck in your brother’s eye.
Jesus went with them, and when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to tell Him, “Lord, don’t trouble Yourself, since I am not worthy to have You come under my roof.
He answered:Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
Then I’ll say to myself, “You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.”’
and said, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!”
Then one of the criminals hanging there began to yell insults at Him: “Aren’t You the Messiah? Save Yourself and us!”
“Who are you, then?” they asked. “We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What can you tell us about yourself?”
For no one does anything in secret while he’s seeking public recognition. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.”
So the Pharisees said to Him, “You are testifying about Yourself. Your testimony is not valid.”
“We aren’t stoning You for a good work,” the Jews answered, “but for blasphemy, because You—being a man—make Yourself God.”
Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it You’re going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”
But Paul called out in a loud voice, “Don’t harm yourself, because all of us are here!”
Take these men, purify yourself along with them, and pay for them to get their heads shaved. Then everyone will know that what they were told about you amounts to nothing, but that you yourself are also careful about observing the law.
commanding his accusers to come to you.] By examining him yourself you will be able to discern all these things we are accusing him of.”
Agrippa said to Paul, “It is permitted for you to speak for yourself.”Then Paul stretched out his hand and began his defense:
Therefore, any one of you who judges is without excuse. For when you judge another, you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the same things.
But because of your hardness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed.
Now if you call yourself a Jew, and rest in the law, boast in God,
you then, who teach another, don’t you teach yourself? You who preach, “You must not steal”—do you steal?
The commandments:Do not commit adultery;do not murder;do not steal;do not covet;and whatever other commandment—all are summed up by this: Love your neighbor as yourself.
Do you have a conviction? Keep it to yourself before God. The man who does not condemn himself by what he approves is blessed.
For the entire law is fulfilled in one statement: Love your neighbor as yourself.
But have nothing to do with irreverent and silly myths. Rather, train yourself in godliness,
Pay close attention to your life and your teaching; persevere in these things, for by doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers.
Don’t be too quick to appoint anyone as an elder, and don’t share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.
Watch out for him yourself because he strongly opposed our words.
in everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity in your teaching.
Indeed, if you keep the royal law prescribed in the Scripture, Love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing well.
