'Found' in the Bible
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was thus: His mother, Mary, that is, having been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit.
and having sent them to Bethlehem, said, Go, search out accurately concerning the child, and when ye shall have found him bring me back word, so that I also may come and do him homage.
and behold, a voice out of the heavens saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight.
And when Jesus heard it, he wondered, and said to those who followed, Verily I say unto you, Not even in Israel have I found so great faith.
Behold my servant, whom I have chosen, my beloved, in whom my soul has found its delight. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall shew forth judgment to the nations.
The kingdom of the heavens is like a treasure hid in the field, which a man having found has hid, and for the joy of it goes and sells all whatever he has, and buys that field.
and having found one pearl of great value, he went and sold all whatever he had and bought it.
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight: hear him.
But that bondman having gone out, found one of his fellow-bondmen who owed him a hundred denarii. And having seized him, he throttled him, saying, Pay me if thou owest anything.
But about the eleventh hour, having gone out, he found others standing, and says to them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
And seeing one fig-tree in the way, he came to it and found on it nothing but leaves only. And he says to it, Let there be never more fruit of thee for ever. And the fig-tree was immediately dried up.
And those bondmen went out into the highways, and brought together all as many as they found, both evil and good; and the wedding feast was furnished with guests.
And coming he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
And they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. But at the last two false witnesses came forward
And as they went forth they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name; him they compelled to go with them that he might bear his cross.
And there came a voice out of the heavens: Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I have found my delight.
and had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent everything she had and had found no advantage from it, but had rather got worse,
And having gone away to her house she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.
And they departed, and found a colt bound to the door without at the crossway, and they loose him.
And seeing from afar off a fig-tree which had leaves, he came, if perhaps he might find something on it. And having come up to it he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the time of figs.
And his disciples went away and came into the city, and found as he had said to them; and they made ready the passover.
And returning, he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy; and they knew not what they should answer him.
And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favour with God;
And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger;
and not having found him they returned to Jerusalem seeking him.
And it came to pass, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers and hearing them and asking them questions.
and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form as a dove upon him; and a voice came out of heaven, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I have found my delight.
And the book of the prophet Esaias was given to him; and having unrolled the book he found the place where it was written,
And Jesus hearing this wondered at him, and turning to the crowd following him said, I say to you, Not even in Israel have I found so great faith.
And they who had been sent returning to the house found the bondman, who was ill, in good health.
And they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting, clothed and sensible, at the feet of Jesus. And they were afraid.
And as the voice was heard Jesus was found alone: and they kept silence, and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen.
and having found it, he lays it upon his own shoulders, rejoicing;
and being come to the house, calls together the friends and the neighbours, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep.
and having found it she calls together the friends and neighbours, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost.
for this my son was dead and has come to life, was lost and has been found. And they began to make merry.
But it was right to make merry and rejoice, because this thy brother was dead and has come to life again, and was lost and has been found.
There have not been found to return and give glory to God save this stranger.
And they that were sent, having gone their way, found as he had said to them.
And having gone they found it as he had said to them; and they prepared the passover.
And rising up from his prayer, coming to the disciples, he found them sleeping from grief.
And they began to accuse him, saying, We have found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king.
said to them, Ye have brought to me this man as turning away the people to rebellion, and behold, I, having examined him before you, have found nothing criminal in this man as to the things of which ye accuse him;
And he said the third time to them, What evil then has this man done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will chastise him therefore and release him.
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
And when they had entered they found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
and, not having found his body, came, saying that they also had seen a vision of angels, who say that he is living.
And some of those with us went to the sepulchre, and found it so, as the women also had said, but him they saw not.
And rising up the same hour, they returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven, and those with them, gathered together,
He first finds his own brother Simon, and says to him, We have found the Messias (which being interpreted is Christ).
Philip finds Nathanael, and says to him, We have found him of whom Moses wrote in the law, and the prophets, Jesus, the son of Joseph, who is from Nazareth.
And he found in the temple the sellers of oxen and sheep and doves, and the money-changers sitting;
And having found him the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when art thou arrived here?
Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him, he said to him, Thou, dost thou believe on the Son of God?
Jesus therefore on arriving found him to have been four days already in the tomb.
And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat upon it; as it is written,
And she fell down immediately at his feet and expired. And when the young men came in they found her dead; and, having carried her out, they buried her by her husband.
saying, We found the prison shut with all security, and the keepers standing at the doors; but when we had opened them, within we found no one.
but if it be from God, ye will not be able to put them down, lest ye be found also fighters against God.
But a famine came upon all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great distress, and our fathers found no food.
who found favour before God, and asked to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob;
And Philip was found at Azotus, and passing through he announced the glad tidings to all the cities till he came to Caesarea.
and asked of him letters to Damascus, to the synagogues, so that if he found any who were of the way, both men and women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
And he found there a certain man, Aeneas by name, who had been lying for eight years upon a couch, who was paralysed.
And he went in, talking with him, and found many gathered together.
And having found him, he brought him to Antioch. And so it was with them that for a whole year they were gathered together in the assembly and taught a large crowd: and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
And Herod having sought him and not found him, having examined the guards, commanded them to be executed. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea and stayed there.
And having passed through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a certain man a magician, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus,
And having removed him he raised up to them David for king, of whom also bearing witness he said, I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who shall do all my will.
And having found no cause of death in him, they begged of Pilate that he might be slain.
and not having found them, dragged Jason and certain brethren before the politarchs, crying out, These men that have set the world in tumult, are come here also,
for, passing through and beholding your shrines, I found also an altar on which was inscribed, To the unknown God. Whom therefore ye reverence, not knowing him, him I announce to you.
And many of those that practised curious arts brought their books of charms and burnt them before all. And they reckoned up the prices of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
And having found a ship passing over into Phoenicia, we went on board and sailed;
And having found out the disciples, we remained there seven days; who said to Paul by the Spirit not to go up to Jerusalem.
whom I found to be accused of questions of their law, but to have no charge laid against him making him worthy of death or of bonds.
Whereupon they found me purified in the temple, with neither crowd nor tumult. But it was certain Jews from Asia,
or let these themselves say what wrong they found in me when I stood before the council,
But I, having found that he had done nothing worthy of death, and this man himself having appealed to Augustus, I have decided to send him;
and there the centurion having found a ship of Alexandria sailing to Italy, he made us go on board her.
and having sounded found twenty fathoms, and having gone a little farther and having again sounded they found fifteen fathoms;
where, having found brethren, we were begged to stay with them seven days. And thus we went to Rome.
What shall we say then that Abraham our father according to flesh has found?
and hesitated not at the promise of God through unbelief; but found strength in faith, giving glory to God;
And the commandment, which was for life, was found, as to me, itself to be unto death:
But Esaias is very bold, and says, I have been found by those not seeking me; I have become manifest to those not inquiring after me.
Here, further, it is sought in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
And we are found also false witnesses of God; for we have witnessed concerning God that he raised the Christ, whom he has not raised if indeed those that are dead are not raised.
if indeed being also clothed we shall not be found naked.
But what I do, I will also do, that I may cut off the opportunity of those wishing for an opportunity, that wherein they boast they may be found even as we.
For I fear lest perhaps coming I find you not such as I wish, and that I be found by you such as ye do not wish: lest there might be strifes, jealousies, angers, contentions, evil speakings, whisperings, puffings up, disturbances;
Now if in seeking to be justified in Christ we also have been found sinners, then is Christ minister of sin? Far be the thought.
and having been found in figure as a man, humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, and that the death of the cross.
as to zeal, persecuting the assembly; as to righteousness which is in the law, found blameless;
and that I may be found in him, not having my righteousness, which would be on the principle of law, but that which is by faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God through faith,
Thus, yearning over you, we had found our delight in having imparted to you not only the glad tidings of God, but our own lives also, because ye had become beloved of us.
that all might be judged who have not believed the truth, but have found pleasure in unrighteousness.
but being in Rome sought me out very diligently, and found me --
Now in the same manner in which Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, thus these also withstand the truth; men corrupted in mind, found worthless as regards the faith.
