'Things' in the Bible

To keep you from the way of evil and the evil man,From the man who speaks perverse things;

These six things the Lord hates;Indeed, seven are repulsive to Him:

“Listen, for I will speak excellent and noble things;And the opening of my lips will reveal right things.

“For wisdom is better than rubies;And all desirable things cannot compare with her.

Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles,But he who gathers gradually by [honest] labor will increase [his riches].

The heart of the righteous thinks carefully about how to answer [in a wise and appropriate and timely way],But the [babbling] mouth of the wicked pours out malevolent things.

He who [slyly] winks his eyes does so to plot perverse things;And he who compresses his lips [as if in a secret signal] brings evil to pass.

So that your trust and reliance and confidence may be in the Lord,I have taught these things to you today, even to you.

Have I not written to you excellent thingsIn counsels and knowledge,

Yes, my heart will rejoiceWhen your lips speak right things.

Your [drunken] eyes will see strange thingsAnd your mind will utter perverse things [untrue things, twisted things].

Prepare your work outsideAnd get it ready for yourself in the field;Afterward build your house and establish a home.

Two things I have asked of You;Do not deny them to me before I die:

The leech has two daughters,“Give, give!”There are three things that are never satisfied,Four that do not say, “It is enough”:

There are three things which are too astounding and unexpectedly wonderful for me,Four which I do not understand:

Under three things the earth is disquieted and quakes,And under four it cannot bear up:

There are four things that are small on the earth,But they are exceedingly wise:

There are three things which are stately in step,Even four which are stately in their stride:

She looks well to how things go in her household,And does not eat the bread of idleness.
