A Woman Caught In Adultery

1 Then Jesus went to the mount of olives.

1 But Jesus went to (A)the Mount of Olives.

1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.(A)

1 Jesus, however, went to the Mount of Olives.

An Adulteress Forgiven

2 but early in the morning he return'd to the temple, where all the people came to him; and being sat down, he instructed them.

2 Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and (B)He sat down and began to teach them.

2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

2 At dawn He went to the temple complex(B) again, and all the people were coming to Him.(C) He sat down(D) and began to teach them.

2 At daybreak he appeared again in the Temple, and all the people came to him. So he sat down and began to teach them.

3 then the Scribes and Pharisees brought a woman surprized in adultery; and when they had set her in the middle of the assembly,

3 The scribes and the Pharisees *brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court,

3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

3 Then the scribes and the Pharisees(E) brought a woman caught in adultery,(F) making her stand in the center.

3 But the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery. After setting her before them,

4 they said to him, master, this woman was actually taken in adultery.

4 they *said to Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act.

4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

4 “Teacher,” they said to Him, “this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery.(G)

4 they told him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in the very act of adultery.

5 now Moses has ordain'd in the law, that such criminals should be stoned: but what is your opinion?

5 Now in the Law (C)Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?”

5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

5 In the law Moses(H) commanded us to stone such women.(I) So what do You say?”

5 Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women to death. What do you say?"

6 they said this only to ensnare him, that they might have some accusation against him. but Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

6 They were saying this, (D)testing Him, (E)so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground.

6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

6 They asked this to trap Him,(J) in order that they might have evidence to accuse Him.Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with His finger.

6 They said this to test him, so that they might have a charge against him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.

7 and as they pressed him to answer, he rais'd himself, and said to them, he that is without sin among you, let him be the first that throws a stone at her.

7 But when they persisted in asking Him, (F)He straightened up, and said to them, (G)He who is without sin among you, let him be the (H)first to throw a stone at her.”

7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

7 When they persisted in questioning Him, He stood up and said to them, “The one without sin(K) among you(L) should be the first to throw a stone at her.”(M)

7 When they persisted in questioning him, he straightened up and told them, "Let the person among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."

8 then stooping down again, he wrote on the ground.

8 Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

8 Then He stooped down again and continued writing on the ground.

8 Then he bent down again and continued writing on the ground.

9 but they who heard that, being convicted by their own conscience, they all went old and young one after another, so that Jesus was left alone with the woman, who still kept her place.

9 When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court.

9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

9 When they heard this, they left one by one, starting with the older men. Only He was left, with the woman in the center.

9 When they heard this, they went away one by one, beginning with the oldest, and he was left alone with the woman standing there.

10 then Jesus raising himself, and seeing none but the woman there, he said to her, woman, where are your accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

10 (I)Straightening up, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?”

10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

10 When Jesus stood up, He said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

10 Then Jesus stood up and asked her, "Dear lady, where are your accusers? Hasn't anyone condemned you?"

11 Lord, said she, no man. and Jesus said to her, neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

11 She said, “No one, (a)Lord.” And Jesus said, (J)I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on (K)sin no more.”]

11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

11 “No one, Lord,”(a) she answered.“Neither do I condemn you,”(N) said Jesus. “Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.”](b)

11 "No one, sir," she replied. Then Jesus said, "I don't condemn you, either. Go home, and from now on don't sin anymore."

Jesus, The Light Of The World

12 Jesus then having reassumed his discourse, said to them, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, (L)I am the Light of the world; (M)he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

12 Then Jesus spoke to them again: “I am(O) the light(P) of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.”(Q)

12 Later on, Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

13 the Pharisees therefore said to him, you give a testimony of your self, your testimony is not valid.

13 So the Pharisees said to Him, “(N)You are testifying about Yourself; Your testimony is not (b)true.”

13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

13 So the Pharisees said to Him, “You are testifying about Yourself. Your testimony is not valid.”(c)

13 The Pharisees told him, "You're testifying about yourself. Your testimony isn't valid."

14 Jesus answered them, though I give testimony of my self, yet my testimony is valid: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but you do not know whence I came, nor whither I go.

14 Jesus answered and said to them, (O)Even if I testify about Myself, My testimony is (c)true, for I know (P)where I came from and where I am going; but (Q)you do not know where I come from or where I am going.

14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

14 “Even if I testify about Myself,” Jesus replied, “My testimony is valid,(d) because I know where I came from and where I’m going. But you don’t know where I come from or where I’m going.(R)

14 Jesus answered them, "Even though I'm testifying about myself, my testimony is valid because I know where I've come from and where I'm going. But you don't know where I come from or where I'm going.

15 you pass sentence according to your passions: I pass sentence on no man;

15 (R)You judge (d)according to the flesh; (S)I am not judging anyone.

15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

15 You judge(S) by human standards.(e)(T) I judge no one.(U)

15 You're judging by human standards, but I'm not judging anyone.

16 and yet if I did judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I am with the father who has sent me.

16 But even (T)if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone in it, but I and the Father who sent Me.

16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

16 And if I do judge, My judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent Me judge(V) together.(W)

16 Yet even if I should judge, my judgment would be valid, because it is not I alone who judges, but I and the one who sent me.

17 now it is written in your law, that the testimony of two men is valid.

17 Even in (U)your law it has been written that the testimony of (V)two men is (e)true.

17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

17 Even in your law it is written that the witness of two men is valid.(X)

17 In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two people is valid.

18 I indeed do bear testimony of my self, but the father, who has sent me, beareth witness of me likewise.

18 I am He who testifies about Myself, and (W)the Father who sent Me testifies about Me.”

18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

18 I am the One who testifies(Y) about Myself, and the Father who sent Me testifies about Me.”

18 I'm testifying about myself, and the Father who sent me is testifying about me."

19 then said they to him, where is thy father: Jesus answered, ye neither know me, nor my father: if ye knew me, ye would have known my father also.

19 So they were saying to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father; (X)if you knew Me, you would know My Father also.”

19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

19 Then they asked Him, “Where is Your Father?”“You know neither Me nor My Father,”(Z) Jesus answered. “If you knew Me, you would also know My Father.”(AA)

19 Then they asked him, "Where is this Father of yours?"

20 Jesus delivered this discourse in the treasury, when he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, for his hour was not yet come.

20 These words He spoke in (Y)the treasury, as (Z)He taught in the temple; and no one seized Him, because (AA)His hour had not yet come.

20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.

20 He spoke these words by the treasury,(f)(AB) while teaching in the temple complex. But no one seized Him, because His hour(g) had not come.

20 Jesus replied, "You don't know me or my Father. If you had known me, you would've known my Father, too." He spoke these words in the treasury, while he was teaching in the Temple. Yet no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.

Jesus Predicts His Death

21 Jesus therefore repeated what he had said, "I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your incredulity, so that whither I go, ye cannot come."

21 Then He said again to them, “I go away, and (AB)you will seek Me, and (AC)will die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come.”

21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

21 Then He said to them again, “I’m going away;(AC) you will look for Me, and you will die in your sin.(AD) Where I’m going, you cannot come.”(AE)

21 Later on, he told them again, "I'm going away, and you'll look for me, but you will die in your sin. You cannot come where I'm going."

22 then said the Jews, what, will he kill himself? that he says, "whither I go, you cannot come."

22 So (AD)the Jews were saying, “Surely He will not kill Himself, will He, since He says, (AE)Where I am going, you cannot come’?”

22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.

22 So the Jews said again, “He won’t kill Himself, will He, since He says, ‘Where I’m going, you cannot come’(AF)?”

22 So the Jewish leaders were asking, "He isn't going to kill himself, is he? Is that why he said, "You cannot come where I'm going'?"

23 and he said to them, ye are from beneath, I am from above: ye are of this world, I am not of this world.

23 And He was saying to them, (AF)You are from below, I am from above; (AG)you are of this world, (AH)I am not of this world.

23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

23 “You are from below,” He told them, “I am from above.(AG) You are of this world;(AH) I am not of this world.(AI)

23 He told them, "You are from below, I'm from above. You are of this world, but I'm not of this world.

24 therefore I said to you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if you don't believe me to be what I am, ye shall die in your sins.

24 Therefore I said to you that you (AI)will die in your sins; for unless you believe that (f)(AJ)I am He, (AK)you will die in your sins.”

24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

24 Therefore I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I am He,(h) you will die in your sins.”

24 That is why I told you that you will die in your sins, for unless you believe that I AM, you'll die in your sins."

25 then said they to him, what art thou? and Jesus answered them, I am what I just now told you.

25 So they were saying to Him, “Who are You?” Jesus said to them, (g)What have I been saying to you from the beginning?

25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.

25 “Who are You?” they questioned.“Precisely what I’ve been telling you from the very beginning,” Jesus told them.

25 Then they asked him, "Who are you?"

26 I have many things to say against you: but I only say He that sent me is worthy of belief; and what I have heard of Him, that only I publish to the world.

26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you, but (AL)He who sent Me is true; and (AM)the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world.”

26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.

26 “I have many things to say and to judge about you, but the One who sent Me(AJ) is true, and what I have heard from Him—these things I tell the world.”(AK)

26 Jesus told them, "What have I been telling you all along? I have much to say about you and to condemn you for. But the one who sent me is truthful, and what I've heard from him I declare to the world."

27 but they did not perceive that he meant the father.

27 They did not realize that He had been speaking to them about the Father.

27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

27 They did not know He was speaking to them about the Father.

27 They didn't realize that he was talking to them about the Father.

28 Jesus said therefore to them, when ye have lift up the son of man, then shall ye know what I am, and that I do nothing of my self, but speak as my father hath instructed me.

28 So Jesus said, “When you (AN)lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that (h)(AO)I am He, and (AP)I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me.

28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

28 So Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man,(AL) then you will know that I am(AM) He, and that I do nothing on My own.(AN) But just as the Father taught Me, I say these things.

28 So Jesus told them, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM, and that I do nothing on my own authority. Instead, I speak only what the Father has taught me.

29 he that sent me, is with me: the father hath not left me alone, for I always do what is agreeable to him.

29 And He who sent Me is with Me; (AQ)He (i)has not left Me alone, for (AR)I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.”

29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

29 The One who sent Me is with Me. He has not left Me alone,(AO) because I always do what pleases Him.”

29 Moreover, the one who sent me is with me. He has never left me alone, because I always do what pleases him."

Truth And Freedom

30 upon this discourse many believed on him.

30 As He spoke these things, (AS)many came to believe in Him.

30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.

30 As He was saying these things, many believed in Him.

30 While he was saying these things, many believed in him.

The Truth Will Set You Free

31 Jesus said therefore to those Jews who believed on him, if you adhere to my doctrine, then will you be my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth,

31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, (AT)If you continue in My word, then you are truly (AU)disciples of Mine;

31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word,(i)(AP) you really are My disciples.

31 So Jesus told those Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are really my disciples.

32 and the truth shall make you free.

32 and (AV)you will know the truth, and (AW)the truth will make you free.”

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

32 You will know the truth,(AQ) and the truth will set you free.”

32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

33 they answered him, we are Abraham's offspring, and were never slaves to any man: why then do you say, "ye shall be made free?"

33 They answered Him, “(AX)We are Abraham’s descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?”

33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

33 “We are descendants(j) of Abraham,”(AR) they answered Him, “and we have never been enslaved to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will become free’?”

33 They replied to him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves to anybody. So how can you say, "You will be set free'?"

34 Jesus answered them, I declare unto you, whosoever committeth sin, is a slave to sin.

34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (AY)everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.

34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

34 Jesus responded, “I assure you: Everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.(AS)

34 Jesus answered them, "Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, that everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.

35 a slave has no right to be in the house for life: but the son is settled there.

35 (AZ)The slave does not remain in the house forever; (BA)the son does remain forever.

35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

35 A slave does not remain in the household forever,(AT) but a son does remain forever.(AU)

35 The slave does not remain in the household forever, but the son does remain forever.

36 if the son therefore shall make you free, you will be free indeed.

36 So if the Son (BB)makes you free, you will be free indeed.

36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

36 Therefore, if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.

36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!"

37 I know you are Abraham's offspring; but ye seek to kill me, because my doctrine doth not penetrate into you.

37 I know that you are (BC)Abraham’s descendants; yet (BD)you seek to kill Me, because My word (j)has no place in you.

37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

37 I know you are descendants(k) of Abraham,(AV) but you are trying to kill Me because My word(l) is not welcome among you.

37 "I know that you are Abraham's descendants. Yet you are trying to kill me because you've not received what I've told you.

38 what I have learnt from my father, that I tell: and what you have learnt from your father, that you do.

38 I speak the things which I have seen (k)with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from (BE)your father.”

38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

38 I speak what I have seen(AW) in the presence of the Father;(m)(AX) therefore, you do what you have heard from your father.”

38 I declare what I've seen in my Father's presence, and you're doing what you've heard from your father."

The Priority Of Jesus Over Abraham

39 they answered him, Abraham is our father. if you were Abraham's children, said Jesus, you would act like Abraham.

39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is (BF)our father.” Jesus *said to them, (BG)If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham.

39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

39 “Our father is Abraham!” they replied.“If you were Abraham’s children,” Jesus told them, “you would do what Abraham did.(AY)

39 They replied to him, "Our father is Abraham!"

40 but now ye seek to kill me, the man who has told you the truth, such as I have learnt it of God: Abraham did not act thus.

40 But as it is, (BH)you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has (BI)told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do.

40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

40 But now you are trying to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth(AZ) that I heard from God. Abraham did not do this!

40 Jesus told them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing what Abraham did. But now you're trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham would'nt have done that.

41 your actions are like your father. at this they reply'd, we are no bastards; we have but one father, even God.

41 You are doing the deeds of (BJ)your father.” They said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; (BK)we have one Father: God.”

41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

41 You’re doing what your father does.”(BA)“We weren’t born(BB) of sexual immorality,”(BC) they said. “We have one Father—God.”(BD)

41 You are doing your father's actions." They told him, "We're not illegitimate children. We have one Father, God himself."

42 Jesus said to them, if God were your father, ye would love me: for I was commissioned by God to come; I did not come of my self, but he sent me.

42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, (BL)you would love Me, (BM)for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have (BN)not even come on My own initiative, but (l)(BO)He sent Me.

42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me,(BE) because I came from God(BF) and I am here. For I didn’t come on My own, but He sent Me.

42 Jesus told them, "If God were your Father, you would've loved me, because I came from God and am here. I haven't come on my own accord, but he sent me.

43 why do not you understand my language? unless because ye cannot bear my doctrine?

43 Why do you not understand (m)(BP)what I am saying? It is because you cannot (BQ)hear My word.

43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

43 Why don’t you understand what I say? Because you cannot listen to(n) My word.(BG)

43 Why don't you understand what I've said? It's because you can't listen to my words.

44 you, who have the devil for your father, will execute the designs of your father: he was a murderer from the beginning, and deserted the truth, since he has no love for the truth: when he lyes, he speaks like himself: for he is a lyar, and the father of a lyar.

44 (BR)You are of (BS)your father the devil, and (BT)you want to do the desires of your father. (BU)He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because (BV)there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks (n)a lie, he (BW)speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of (o)lies.

44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

44 You are of your father the Devil,(BH) and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer(BI) from the beginning(BJ) and has not stood in the truth,(BK) because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature,(o) because he is a liar and the father of liars.(p)

44 You belong to your father the Devil, and you want to carry out the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and has never stood for truth, since there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells a lie, he speaks in character, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

45 but as to me, because I tell you the truth, you do not believe me.

45 But because (BX)I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.

45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.

45 But it is because I speak the truth that you don't believe me.

46 which of you can convict me of sin? if then I say the truth, why don't you believe me?

46 Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If (BY)I speak truth, why do you not believe Me?

46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

46 Who among you can convict Me of sin?(BL) If I tell the truth, why don’t you believe Me?

46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I'm telling the truth, why don't you believe me?

47 he that is of God, does therefore observe what God says: which you do not observe, because ye are not of God.

47 (BZ)He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”

47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

47 The one who is from God listens to God’s words. This is why you don’t listen, because you are not from God.”

47 The one who belongs to God listens to the words of God. The reason you don't listen is because you don't belong to God."

Jesus And Abraham

48 The Jews answered, and said to him, are we not in the right to say, that you are a Samaritan, and are really mad?

48 (CA)The Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You are a (CB)Samaritan and (CC)have a demon?”

48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

48 The Jews responded to Him, “Aren’t we right in saying that You’re a Samaritan(BM) and have a demon?”(BN)

48 The Jewish leaders replied to him, "Surely we're right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon, aren't we?"

49 Jesus answered, I am not mad; but I honour my father, and you dishonour me.

49 Jesus answered, “I do not (CD)have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.

49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.

49 “I do not have a demon,” Jesus answered. “On the contrary, I honor My Father and you dishonor Me.

49 Jesus answered, "I don't have a demon. On the contrary, I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.

50 I do not consult my own glory: there is one that will consult that, and judge accordingly.

50 But (CE)I do not seek My glory; there is One who seeks and judges.

50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

50 I do not seek My glory;(BO) the One who seeks it also judges.

50 I don't seek my own glory. There is one who seeks it, and he is the Judge.

51 verily, verily, I say unto you, whoever observes my doctrine, shall never die.

51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone (CF)keeps My word he will never (CG)see death.”

51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

51 I assure you: If anyone keeps My word,(BP) he will never see death—ever!”

51 Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."

52 upon this said the Jews to him, now we plainly perceive you are mad. Abraham is dead, and the prophets too; and yet you say, if a man observes your doctrine, he shall never die.

52 (CH)The Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You (CI)have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets also; and You say, ‘If anyone (CJ)keeps My word, he will never (CK)taste of death.’

52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.

52 Then the Jews said, “Now we know You have a demon. Abraham died and so did the prophets. You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word, he will never taste death—ever!’

52 Then the Jewish leaders told him, "Now we really know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and so did the prophets, but you say, "If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.'

53 are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? the prophets likewise are dead: pray, what do you then pretend to be?

53 Surely You (CL)are not greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died too; whom do You make Yourself out to be?”

53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

53 Are You greater than our father Abraham who died? Even the prophets died. Who do You pretend to be?”(q)

53 You aren't greater than our father Abraham, who died, are you? The prophets also died. Who are you making yourself out to be?"

54 Jesus answered, if I honour'd my self, my honour would be vain: it is my father that honoureth me, of whom ye say, that he is your God.

54 Jesus answered, (CM)If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; (CN)it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God’;

54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

54 “If I glorify Myself,” Jesus answered, “My glory is nothing. My Father—you say about Him, ‘He is our God’—He is the One who glorifies Me.

54 Jesus answered, "If I were trying to glorify myself, my glory would mean nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, "He is our God.'

55 yet ye have not known him, but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I should be a lyar like you: but I know him, and observe his commands.

55 and (CO)you have not come to know Him, (CP)but I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be (CQ)a liar like you, (CR)but I do know Him and (CS)keep His word.

55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

55 You’ve never known Him, but I know Him. If I were to say I don’t know Him,(BQ) I would be a liar like you. But I do know Him,(BR) and I keep His word.

55 You don't know him, but I know him. If I were to say that I don't know him, I would be a liar like you. But I do know him and keep his word.

56 your father Abraham long'd to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

56 (CT)Your father Abraham (CU)rejoiced (p)to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

56 Your father Abraham was overjoyed that he would see My day; he saw it(BS) and rejoiced.”

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day, and he saw it and was glad."

57 then said the Jews to him, you are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?

57 (CV)So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”

57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

57 The Jews replied, “You aren’t 50 years old yet, and You’ve seen Abraham?”(r)

57 Then the Jewish leaders asked him, "You are not even 50 years old, yet you have seen Abraham?"

58 Jesus said to them, verily, verily I say unto you, before Abraham was I AM.

58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham (q)was born, (CW)I am.”

58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

58 Jesus said to them, “I assure you: Before Abraham was, I am.”(s)(BT)

58 Jesus told them, "Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, before there was an Abraham, I AM!"

59 then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus was conceal'd by the crowd which he pass'd thro', and so got out of the temple.

59 Therefore they (CX)picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus (r)(CY)hid Himself and went out of the temple.

59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

59 At that, they picked up stones(BU) to throw at Him.(BV) But Jesus was hidden(t)(BW) and went out of the temple complex.(u)(BX)

59 At this, they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the Temple.
