I have spoken these things to you that my joy may be in you, and your joy be completed.

He that has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice; this my joy, therefore, is fully attained.

I tell you most truly, that you shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice; and you shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall become joy.

For when a woman is in labor she has pain, because her time has come; but when she has borne the child she no longer remembers the distress, because of joy that a man is born into the world.

And you therefore now indeed have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your hearts shall rejoice, and your joy no one shall take from you.

Till now you have asked nothing in my name; ask and you shall receive, that your joy may be complete.

but now I come to thee, and I say these things in the world that they may have my joy made complete in them.
