And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who love to go in long clothing and love the salutations in the marketplaces and the first chairs in the synagogues and the first seats at the suppers, which devour widows' houses and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater judgment.

Then in the audience of all the people, he said unto his disciples, Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes and love greetings in the markets and the first seats in the synagogues and the first places at suppers; who devour the houses of the widows and for a pretext make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses and for a pretence make long prayer; therefore, ye shall receive the greater judgment.

For thus hath the Lord GOD said: Will I deal with thee even as thou hast done, despising the oath to invalidate the covenant?


Man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

The king shall mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with desolation, and the hands of the people of the land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their judgments I will judge them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

if thou should say, Behold, we knew it not; shall not he that weighs the hearts understand it? and he that keeps thy soul, does he not know it? and shall he not render to every man according to his works?

Also unto thee, O Lord, belongs mercy, for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

For he shall pay man according to his work and cause every man to find according to his ways.

so as to give payment, so as to repay the vengeance of his enemies, and repay his adversaries; to the islands he will give recompense.

Now shall be the end upon thee, and I will send my anger upon thee and will judge thee according to thy ways and will recompense upon thee all thine abominations.

According to their uncleanness and according to their rebellions have I done unto them and hid my face from them.

But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my slaves the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? Therefore they returned from captivity and said, Like as the LORD of the hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways and according to our doings, so has he dealt with us.

And that slave who knew his lord's will and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not and did commit things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom much was committed, more will be asked of him.



But the hireling, who is not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches them and scatters the sheep.

For I know this, that after my departing, grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye are not consumed one of another.

Ye covet and have not; ye murder, and have envy and cannot obtain; ye fight and war and have not that which ye desire because ye ask not.
