Thematic Bible: Seven earnest suppliants

Thematic Bible

Three times I prayed to God about this and asked him to take it away. He told me: My grace is sufficient for you for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore, I would rather glory in my infirmities (frailities), that the power of Christ may rest upon me (cover me like a tent) (descend upon me) (abide with me). (Isaiah 40:29-31)

So Moses went back to Jehovah and said: These people have committed such a serious sin! They made a god out of gold for themselves. Will you forgive their sin? If not, please wipe me out of the book you have written.

He said to him: Let me go now, for the dawn is near. But Jacob said: I will not let you go till you have given me your blessing.

O Jehovah God, you allowed me to succeed my father as king, even though I am very young and do not know how to rule. I am among the people you have chosen to be your own. They are a people who are so many that they cannot be counted. Give me the wisdom I need to rule your people with justice. Help me know the difference between good and evil. Otherwise, how would I ever be able to rule this great people of yours?

([[Psalm of David] when the prophet Nathan came to him after David's adultery with Bathsheba:]) Have mercy on me, O God, in keeping with your loving-kindness. According to your unlimited compassion, wipe out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my perversity (iniquity) (guilt), and cleanse me from my sin.

He said: Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingdom.

I say to you: Ask and it will be given you. Seek and you will find. Knock and it will be opened to you.

That night Jehovah appeared to him in a dream and asked him: What do you want me to give you?

In the spring ask Jehovah for rain. It is Jehovah who makes storm clouds and lightning. He will give showers of rain for the vegetation in the field.

Everyone who asks receives. Everyone who seeks finds, and everyone who knocks will have it opened.

I pray, not for these alone but for those who will believe in me through their word.

Please give me the wisdom and knowledge I need to rule over them. Otherwise, how would I ever be able to rule this great people of yours?

Call out for insight. Lift up your voice for understanding.

Give us this day our daily bread. (Matthew 6:34) (1 Timothy 6:8) (Proverbs 30:8) (Psalm 37:25)

Jacob made a vow. He said: If God will be with me and will watch over me on my trip and give me food to eat and clothes to wear,
