Stop living in accordance with the customs of this world, but by the new ideals that mold your minds continue to transform yourselves, so as to find and follow God's will; that is, what is good, well-pleasing to Him, and perfect.
For it is God's will that you should keep pure in person, that you should practice abstinence from sexual immorality, that each man among you should learn to take his own wife out of pure and honorable motives, not out of evil passions as the heathen do who do not know God;
training us to give up godless ways and worldly cravings and live serious, upright, and godly lives in this world,
As obedient children, stop molding your character by the evil desires you used to cherish when you did not know any better, but in accordance with the Holy Being who has called you, you must prove to be holy too, for the Scripture says: "You ought to be holy, because I am holy."
For the time that is past is enough for you to have accomplished what the heathen like to do, leading lives that are steeped in sensuality, lustful desires, drunkenness, carousing, revelry, dissipation, and idolatry that leads to lawlessness, They are astonished that you are not still rushing hand in hand with them into the same excesses of profligate living, and they abuse you for it;
for every child of God continues to conquer the world. Our faith is the victory that has conquered the world.
And now I am no longer to be in the world, but they are to stay on in the world, while I am going to be with you. Holy Father, keep them by the power which you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are.
So then whenever we have an opportunity, let us practice doing good to everybody, but especially to the members of the family of faith.
