'Bread' in the Bible
Then the tempter approached Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
But He answered, “It is written:Man must not live on bread alonebut on every word that comesfrom the mouth of God.”
Give us today our daily bread.
What man among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?
how he entered the house of God, and they ate the sacred bread, which is not lawful for him or for those with him to eat, but only for the priests?
He answered, “It isn’t right to take the children’s bread and throw it to their dogs.”
The disciples said to Him, “Where could we get enough bread in this desolate place to fill such a crowd?”
The disciples reached the other shore, and they had forgotten to take bread.
And they discussed among themselves, “We didn’t bring any bread.”
Aware of this, Jesus said, “You of little faith! Why are you discussing among yourselves that you do not have bread?
Why is it you don’t understand that when I told you, ‘Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees,’ it wasn’t about bread?”
Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the yeast in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
On the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do You want us to prepare the Passover so You may eat it?”
As they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take and eat it; this is My body.”
how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest and ate the sacred bread—which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests—and also gave some to his companions?”
He instructed them to take nothing for the road except a walking stick: no bread, no traveling bag, no money in their belts.
“You give them something to eat,” He responded.They said to Him, “Should we go and buy 200 denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
Then they picked up 12 baskets full of pieces of bread and fish.
They observed that some of His disciples were eating their bread with unclean—that is, unwashed—hands.
Then the Pharisees and the scribes asked Him, “Why don’t Your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders, instead of eating bread with ritually unclean hands?”
He said to her, “Allow the children to be satisfied first, because it isn’t right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”
His disciples answered Him, “Where can anyone get enough bread here in this desolate place to fill these people?”
They had forgotten to take bread and had only one loaf with them in the boat.
They were discussing among themselves that they did not have any bread.
Aware of this, He said to them, “Why are you discussing that you do not have any bread? Don’t you understand or comprehend? Is your heart hardened?
When I broke the five loaves for the 5,000, how many baskets full of pieces of bread did you collect?”“Twelve,” they told Him.
“When I broke the seven loaves for the 4,000, how many large baskets full of pieces of bread did you collect?”“Seven,” they said.
After two days it was the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a treacherous way to arrest and kill Him.
On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrifice the Passover lamb, His disciples asked Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare the Passover so You may eat it?”
He said to them, “It is one of the Twelve—the one who is dipping bread with Me in the bowl.
As they were eating, He took bread, blessed and broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.”
The Devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”
But Jesus answered him, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone.”

For John the Baptist did not come eating bread or drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon!’

The Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is called Passover, was drawing near.
Then the Day of Unleavened Bread came when the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
And He took bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.”
It was as He reclined at the table with them that He took the bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.
Then they began to describe what had happened on the road and how He was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.
Therefore, when Jesus looked up and noticed a huge crowd coming toward Him, He asked Philip, “Where will we buy bread so these people can eat?”
Philip answered, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread wouldn’t be enough for each of them to have a little.”
Some boats from Tiberias came near the place where they ate the bread after the Lord gave thanks.
Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.”
Jesus said to them, “I assure you: Moses didn’t give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the real bread from heaven.
For the bread of God is the One who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
“I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “No one who comes to Me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in Me will ever be thirsty again.
Therefore the Jews started complaining about Him because He said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”
I am the bread of life.
This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that anyone may eat of it and not die.
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever. The bread that I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.”
This is the bread that came down from heaven; it is not like the manna your fathers ate—and they died. The one who eats this bread will live forever.”
I’m not speaking about all of you; I know those I have chosen. But the Scripture must be fulfilled: The one who eats My bread has raised his heel against Me.
Jesus replied, “He’s the one I give the piece of bread to after I have dipped it.” When He had dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas, Simon Iscariot’s son.
After Judas ate the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Therefore Jesus told him, “What you’re doing, do quickly.”
After receiving the piece of bread, he went out immediately. And it was night.
When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish lying on it, and bread.
Jesus came, took the bread, and gave it to them. He did the same with the fish.
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers.
Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude,
When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter too, during the days of Unleavened Bread.
but we sailed away from Philippi after the days of Unleavened Bread. In five days we reached them at Troas, where we spent seven days.
On the first day of the week, we assembled to break bread. Paul spoke to them, and since he was about to depart the next day, he extended his message until midnight.
After going upstairs, breaking the bread, and eating, Paul conversed a considerable time until dawn. Then he left.
After he said these things and had taken some bread, he gave thanks to God in the presence of all of them, and when he broke it, he began to eat.
Therefore, let us observe the feast, not with old yeast or with the yeast of malice and evil but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
The cup of blessing that we give thanks for, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?
Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for all of us share that one bread.
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: On the night when He was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread,
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy way will be guilty of sin against the body and blood of the Lord.
So a man should examine himself; in this way he should eat the bread and drink from the cup.
Now the One who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness.
we did not eat anyone’s food free of charge; instead, we labored and struggled, working night and day, so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
Now we command and exhort such people by the Lord Jesus Christ that quietly working, they may eat their own food.
