'Hand' in the Bible
In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month in the fourteenth year after Jerusalem had been captured, on that very day the Lord’s hand was on me, and He brought me there.
He brought me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze, with a linen cord and a measuring rod in his hand. He was standing by the gate.
Now there was a wall surrounding the outside of the temple. The measuring rod in the man’s hand was six units of 21 inches; each unit was the standard length plus three inches. He measured the thickness of the wall structure; it was about 10 feet, and its height was the same.
As the man went out east with a measuring line in his hand, he measured off a third of a mile and led me through the water. It came up to my ankles.
As you were watching, a stone broke off without a hand touching it, struck the statue on its feet of iron and fired clay, and crushed them.
You saw a stone break off from the mountain without a hand touching it, and it crushed the iron, bronze, fired clay, silver, and gold. The great God has told the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation certain.”
All the inhabitants of the earth are counted as nothing,and He does what He wants with the army of heavenand the inhabitants of the earth.There is no one who can hold back His handor say to Him, “What have You done?”
At that moment the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and began writing on the plaster of the king’s palace wall next to the lampstand. As the king watched the hand that was writing,
Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. The vessels from His house were brought to you, and as you and your nobles, wives, and concubines drank wine from them, you praised the gods made of silver and gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or understand. But you have not glorified the God who holds your life-breath in His hand and who controls the whole course of your life.
Therefore, He sent the hand, and this writing was inscribed.
Now, Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and made Your name renowned as it is this day, we have sinned, we have acted wickedly.
Suddenly, a hand touched me and raised me to my hands and knees.
The king of the North who comes against him will do whatever he wants, and no one can oppose him. He will establish himself in the beautiful land with total destruction in his hand.
I will cut off the ruler from Ashdod,and the one who wields the scepter from Ashkelon.I will also turn My hand against Ekron,and the remainder of the Philistines will perish.The Lord God has spoken.
It will be like a man who flees from a liononly to have a bear confront him.He goes home and rests his hand against the wallonly to have a snake bite him.
The Lord God has sworn by Himself—this is the declaration of Yahweh, the God of Hosts:I loathe Jacob’s prideand hate his citadels,so I will hand over the city and everything in it.
He showed me this: The Lord was standing there by a vertical wall with a plumb line in His hand.
If they dig down to Sheol,from there My hand will take them;if they climb up to heaven,from there I will bring them down.
Do not stand at the crossroadsto cut off their fugitives,and do not hand over their survivorsin the day of distress.
Your hand will be lifted up against your adversaries,and all your enemies will be destroyed.
You will be filled with disgrace instead of glory.You also—drink,and expose your uncircumcision!The cup in the Lord’s right handwill come around to you,and utter disgrace will cover your glory.
His brilliance is like light;rays are flashing from His hand.This is where His power is hidden.
I will stretch out My hand against Judahand against all the residents of Jerusalem.I will cut off every vestige of Baalfrom this place,the names of the pagan priestsalong with the priests;
He will also stretch out His hand against the northand destroy Assyria;He will make Nineveh a desolate ruin,dry as the desert.
I looked up and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.
For who scorns the day of small things? These seven eyes of the Lord, which scan throughout the whole earth, will rejoice when they see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.”
The Lord of Hosts says this: “Old men and women will again sit along the streets of Jerusalem, each with a staff in hand because of advanced age.
Sword, awake against My shepherd,against the man who is My associate—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered;I will also turn My hand against the little ones.
On that day a great panic from the Lord will be among them, so that each will seize the hand of another, and the hand of one will rise against the other.
“You, on the other hand, have turned from the way. You have caused many to stumble by your instruction. You have violated the covenant of Levi,” says the Lord of Hosts.
His winnowing shovel is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor and gather His wheat into the barn. But the chaff He will burn up with fire that never goes out.”
Reach a settlement quickly with your adversary while you’re on the way with him, or your adversary will hand you over to the judge, the judge to the officer, and you will be thrown into prison.
And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to go into hell!
But when you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
Reaching out His hand He touched him, saying, “I am willing; be made clean.” Immediately his disease was healed.
So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. Then she got up and began to serve Him.
As He was telling them these things, suddenly one of the leaders came and knelt down before Him, saying, “My daughter is near death, but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will live.”
But when the crowd had been put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl got up.
Because people will hand you over to sanhedrins and flog you in their synagogues, beware of them.
But when they hand you over, don’t worry about how or what you should speak. For you will be given what to say at that hour,
There He saw a man who had a paralyzed hand. And in order to accuse Him they asked Him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”
Then He told the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and it was restored, as good as the other.
And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!
Immediately Jesus reached out His hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
If your hand or your foot causes your downfall, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire.
Then they will hand Him over to the Gentiles to be mocked, flogged, and crucified, and He will be resurrected on the third day.”
“Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him up hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
The Lord declared to my Lord,‘Sit at My right handuntil I put Your enemies under Your feet’?
“Then they will hand you over for persecution, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of My name.
and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you?” So they weighed out 30 pieces of silver for him.
He replied, “The one who dipped his hand with Me in the bowl—he will betray Me.
At that moment one of those with Jesus reached out his hand and drew his sword. He struck the high priest’s slave and cut off his ear.
“You have said it,” Jesus told him. “But I tell you, in the future you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
They twisted together a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and placed a reed in His right hand. And they knelt down before Him and mocked Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!”
So He went to her, took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she began to serve them.
Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out His hand and touched him. “I am willing,” He told him. “Be made clean.”
Now He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a paralyzed hand.
He told the man with the paralyzed hand, “Stand before us.”
After looking around at them with anger and sorrow at the hardness of their hearts, He told the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.
“On the other hand, no one can enter a strong man’s house and rob his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he will rob his house.
Then He took the child by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).
They brought to Him a deaf man who also had a speech difficulty, and begged Jesus to lay His hand on him.
He took the blind man by the hand and brought him out of the village. Spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?”
But Jesus, taking him by the hand, raised him, and he stood up.
And if your hand causes your downfall, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and go to hell—the unquenchable fire,
“Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death. Then they will hand Him over to the Gentiles,
David himself says by the Holy Spirit:The Lord declared to my Lord,‘Sit at My right handuntil I put Your enemies under Your feet.’
“But you, be on your guard! They will hand you over to sanhedrins, and you will be flogged in the synagogues. You will stand before governors and kings because of Me, as a witness to them.
So when they arrest you and hand you over, don’t worry beforehand what you will say. On the contrary, whatever is given to you in that hour—say it. For it isn’t you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to hand Him over to them.
“I am,” said Jesus, “and all of you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
Then after speaking to them, the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
All who heard about him took it to heart, saying, “What then will this child become?” For, indeed, the Lord’s hand was with him.

On another Sabbath He entered the synagogue and was teaching. A man was there whose right hand was paralyzed.
But He knew their thoughts and told the man with the paralyzed hand, “Get up and stand here.” So he got up and stood there.
After looking around at them all, He told him, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was restored.
“A good tree doesn’t produce bad fruit; on the other hand, a bad tree doesn’t produce good fruit.
So He took her by the hand and called out, “Child, get up!”
But Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, “Lord, don’t You care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand.”
As you are going with your adversary to the ruler, make an effort to settle with him on the way. Then he won’t drag you before the judge, the judge hand you over to the bailiff, and the bailiff throw you into prison.
They watched closely and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, so they could catch Him in what He said, to hand Him over to the governor’s rule and authority.
For David himself says in the Book of Psalms:The Lord declared to my Lord,‘Sit at My right hand
But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you. They will hand you over to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of My name.
He went away and discussed with the chief priests and temple police how he could hand Him over to them.
But look, the hand of the one betraying Me is at the table with Me!
Every day while I was with you in the temple complex, you never laid a hand on Me. But this is your hour—and the dominion of darkness.”
But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the Power of God.”
Jesus told them, “My time has not yet arrived, but your time is always at hand.
Then they tried to seize Him. Yet no one laid a hand on Him because His hour had not yet come.
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish—ever! No one will snatch them out of My hand.
My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
The dead man came out bound hand and foot with linen strips and with his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him and let him go.”
So the other disciples kept telling him, “We have seen the Lord!”But he said to them, “If I don’t see the mark of the nails in His hands, put my finger into the mark of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will never believe!”
Then He said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and observe My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Don’t be an unbeliever, but a believer.”
For David says of Him:I saw the Lord ever before me;because He is at my right hand,I will not be shaken.
Therefore, since He has been exalted to the right hand of God and has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, He has poured out what you both see and hear.
For it was not David who ascended into the heavens, but he himself says:The Lord declared to my Lord,‘Sit at My right hand
