[This is] a record of the family background of Jesus Christ, the descendant of David, who was the descendant of Abraham. [Note: The following is an incomplete lineage through Jesus' step-father Joseph].
and Jacob became the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary by whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ occurred in this way. His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, [but] before they came together, she was found {to be pregnant} by the Holy Spirit.
So Joseph her husband, being righteous and not wanting to disgrace her, intended to divorce her secretly.
But [as] he was considering these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary [as] your wife, for what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
"Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife home, for what is begotten in her is by the Holy Spirit; and she will bear a son, and you are to call him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."
And Joseph, [when he] woke up from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and he took his wife
Now [after] they had gone away, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph, saying, "Get up, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. For Herod is about to seek the child to destroy him."
So
Now [after] Herod had died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

Is not this one the son of the carpenter? Is not his mother called Mary and his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?
among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
Now [when it] was evening, a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph came, who also was a disciple of Jesus himself.
And Joseph took the body [and] wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
So Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock; and after rolling a great stone against the opening of the tomb, he went away.
Is not this that carpenter: Mary's son, the brother of James, and Joseph and of Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?" And they were offended by the reason of him.
There were also women a good way off beholding him: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the little and of Joseph, and Mary Salome:
There came Joseph of Arimathaea, a responsible man in high honour, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God; and he went in to Pilate without fear, and made a request for the body of Jesus.
And when he had news of it from the captain, he let Joseph have the body.
Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth and laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.
And Mary Magdalene and Mary Joseph beheld where he was laid.
And when the Sabbath day was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary Joseph, and Salome, bought ointments, that they might come and anoint him.
To a virgin who was to be married to a man named Joseph, of the family of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary.
And Joseph went up from Galilee, out of the town of Nazareth, into Judaea, to Beth-lehem, the town of David, because he was of the house and family of David,
And they came quickly, and saw Mary and Joseph, and the child in the place where the cattle had their food.
Now when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, Joseph and Mary brought Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
And he was led by the Holy Spirit into the Temple, and when Joseph and Mary brought the baby Jesus in, so they could do to Him what was customary under the law of Moses,
And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
And Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things being spoken about him.
So when Joseph and Mary had performed everything according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.
and having fulfilled the days, during their return the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and his mother did not know it,
when Joseph and his mother saw him, great was their surprize: and his mother said to him, son, why did you leave us thus? your father and I have been looking for you with great concern.
And Jesus at this time was about thirty years old, being the son (as it seemed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,

the son of Joseph, The son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum,
of Maath, of Mattathias, of Semei, of Joseph, of Juda,

And they were all giving witness, with wonder, to the words of grace which came from his mouth: and they said, Is not this the son of Joseph?
Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and righteous man,

[So], Joseph went to [governor] Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
So the women, who had come with Jesus from Galilee, followed closely after Joseph and saw the tomb and how His body was laid there.

Nicodemus, the man who had previously come to Jesus at night, accompanied Joseph, carrying a mixture of myrrh and aloes weighing about seventy-five pounds.

There was a garden near the place where Jesus had been crucified, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid. Here, because of its being Preparation Day, and as the tomb was near by, they placed Jesus.
and when he learned the fact from the army captain he gave the body to Joseph. So Joseph bought him a sheet, and took Jesus down, wound him in the sheet, and laid him in a tomb which had been hewn out of a rock, and then rolled a stone against the opening of the tomb; and Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were watching to see where he was laid.
Then taking it down, he wrapped it in linen, and placed it in a tomb hewn in the rock, where no man has ever been laid. And it was the day of preparation and the Sabbath was near at hand. Then the women who had accompanied him out of Galilee followed after, and noted the tomb, and how his body was placed. Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes.
So Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock; and after rolling a great stone against the opening of the tomb, he went away.

Yea, and a sword shall pierce through your own soul also, that the thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed." There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in age, having lived with her husband seven years, after her girlhood, and then being a widow even for fourscore and four years. She departed not from the temple, but worshiped with the fasting and prayer, night and day. She came up at that very hour, and gave thanks to God, and spoke of the child to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. As soon as all that the law required had been done, they returned to Galilee to their own town, Nazareth.
