To him the gate-keeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his sheep by name, and leads them out.

When he puts out all his sheep he goes before them, and the sheep follow him; for they know his voice.

But the hired servant, and one who is not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf seizes and scatters them;
