But when Sanballat, the Horonite, and Tobiah, the slave, the Ammonite, and Geshem, the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn and despised us and said, What is this thing that ye do? Will ye rebel against the king?

And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? Is this to be permitted them? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish on time? Will they resurrect the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which were burned?

I am small and despised; yet I have not forgotten thy precepts.

And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal, Saul's daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, and she despised him in her heart.

He who invokes God and he answers him is mocked by his friend; the just and perfect man is laughed to scorn.

And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him, for he was but a youth and ruddy and of a fair countenance.

and that which is vile of the world and that which is despised God has chosen, and things which are not, to bring to nought the things that are,



O LORD my God, in thee I have put my trust: save me from all those that persecute me, and deliver me


All thy commandments are of the same truth; they persecute me wrongfully; help me.

Many are my persecutors and my enemies; yet I do not deviate from thy testimonies.

SCHIN. Princes have persecuted me without a cause, but my heart stands in awe of thy words.

For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has smitten my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.

O LORD, thou knowest: remember me and visit me and revenge me of my enemies; do not take me away in the prolongation of thy anger, know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke.

Our necks are under persecution; we are become tired and have no rest.





But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and into prisons, being brought before kings and governors for my name's sake.

Remember the word that I said unto you, The slave is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.





Blessed are ye when men shall hate you and when they shall separate you from their company and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil for the sake of the Son of man.

esteeming the reproach of the Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.


on the one hand ye were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and on the other ye became companions of those that were so used.

Let us go forth, therefore, unto him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.




And I saw thrones, and those who sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them; and I saw the souls of those that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for the word of God and who had not worshipped the beast neither its image neither had received its mark upon their foreheads or in their hands; and they shall live and reign with Christ the thousand years.




And Herod with his court despised him and mocked him and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe and sent him again to Pilate.

And for this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill him: because he had done these things on a sabbath.

and rose up and thrust him out of the city and led him unto the brow of the hill upon which their city was built that they might cast him down headlong.

After these things Jesus walked in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judea because the Jews sought to kill him.

I know that ye are Abraham's seed, but ye seek to kill me because my word has no place in you.

Therefore they sought again to take him, but he escaped out of their hand


And the prince of the priests, Ananias, commanded those that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

And they spit upon him and took the reed and smote him on the head.


Then Zedekiah, the son of Chenaanah, went near and smote Micaiah on the cheek and said, Which way did the Spirit of the LORD go from me to speak unto thee?

And when he had thus spoken, one of the servants who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?



For we who live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

Therefore I am content in weaknesses, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake, for when I am weak, then am I strong.



they were stoned; they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword; they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; poor, afflicted, mistreated,






Then Zedekiah, the son of Chenaanah, went near and smote Micaiah on the cheek and said, Which way did the Spirit of the LORD go from me to speak unto thee?

And unto the one that smites thee on the one cheek offer also the other, and to the one that takes away thy cloak defend not thy coat also.

They have opened their mouth against me; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.


And they conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.










from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the temple; verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.




And straightway the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought, and he went and beheaded him in the prison


and casting him out of the city, they stoned him; and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.
