'Account' in the Bible

This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made earth and heaven.

Please say that you are my sister so that it may go well with me because of you, and that I may live on account of you.”

So the Lord said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place on their account.”

He spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose forty are found there?” And He said, “I will not do it on account of the forty.”

And he said, “Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord; suppose twenty are found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it on account of the twenty.”

Then he said, “Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak only this once; suppose ten are found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it on account of the ten.”

When the men of the place asked about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “my wife,” thinking, “the men of the place might kill me on account of Rebekah, for she is beautiful.”

Then Abimelech called Isaac and said, “Behold, certainly she is your wife! How then did you say, ‘She is my sister’?” And Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘I might die on account of her.’”

But Laban said to him, “If now it pleases you, stay with me; I have divined that the Lord has blessed me on your account.”

It came about that from the time he made him overseer in his house and over all that he owned, the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house on account of Joseph; thus the Lord’s blessing was upon all that he owned, in the house and in the field.

So Moses spoke thus to the sons of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses on account of their despondency and cruel bondage.

“If a man strikes the eye of his male or female slave, and destroys it, he shall let him go free on account of his eye.

And if he knocks out a tooth of his male or female slave, he shall let him go free on account of his tooth.

“If the thief is caught while breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no bloodguiltiness on his account.

But if the sun has risen on him, there will be bloodguiltiness on his account. He shall surely make restitution; if he owns nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

Then Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord, I beg you, do not account this sin to us, in which we have acted foolishly and in which we have sinned.

But those who died by the plague were 14,700, besides those who died on account of Korah.

The Lord was angry with me also on your account, saying, ‘Not even you shall enter there.

But the Lord was angry with me on your account, and would not listen to me; and the Lord said to me, ‘Enough! Speak to Me no more of this matter.

“Now the Lord was angry with me on your account, and swore that I would not cross the Jordan, and that I would not enter the good land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.

Now it came about when the sons of Israel cried to the Lord on account of Midian,

When Gideon heard the account of the dream and its interpretation, he bowed in worship. He returned to the camp of Israel and said, “Arise, for the Lord has given the camp of Midian into your hands.”

For the Lord will not abandon His people on account of His great name, because the Lord has been pleased to make you a people for Himself.

David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail on account of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”

Then David said, “O Lord God of Israel, Your servant has heard for certain that Saul is seeking to come to Keilah to destroy the city on my account.

The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach,

When they had threatened them further, they let them go (finding no basis on which to punish them) on account of the people, because they were all glorifying God for what had happened;

For indeed we are in danger of being accused of a riot in connection with today’s events, since there is no real cause for it, and in this connection we will be unable to account for this disorderly gathering.”

So if you have law courts dealing with matters of this life, do you appoint them as judges who are of no account in the church?

For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience,

For what thanks can we render to God for you in return for all the joy with which we rejoice before our God on your account,

But if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge that to my account;
