'Earth' in the Bible

The Chaldeans answered the king, “No one on earth can make known what the king requests. Consequently, no king, however great and powerful, has ever asked anything like this of any diviner-priest, medium, or Chaldean.

Then the iron, the fired clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were shattered and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors. The wind carried them away, and not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

“After you, there will arise another kingdom, inferior to yours, and then another, a third kingdom, of bronze, which will rule the whole earth.

King Nebuchadnezzar, To those of every people, nation, and language, who live in all the earth: May your prosperity increase.

In the visions of my mind as I was lying in bed, I saw this:There was a tree in the middle of the earth,and its height was great.

that tree is you, the king. For you have become great and strong: your greatness has grown and even reaches the sky, and your dominion extends to the ends of the earth.

All the inhabitants of the earth are counted as nothing,and He does what He wants with the army of heavenand the inhabitants of the earth.There is no one who can hold back His handor say to Him, “What have You done?”

Then King Darius wrote to those of every people, nation, and language who live in all the earth: “May your prosperity abound.

He rescues and delivers;He performs signs and wondersin the heavens and on the earth,for He has rescued Danielfrom the power of the lions.”

He builds His upper chambersin the heavensand lays the foundation of His vaulton the earth.He summons the waters of the seaand pours them out on the face of the earth.Yahweh is His name.

Look, the eyes of the Lord Godare on the sinful kingdom,and I will destroy itfrom the face of the earth.However, I will not totally destroythe house of Jacob—this is the Lord’s declaration—

I sank to the foundations of the mountains;the earth with its prison bars closed behind me forever!But You raised my life from the Pit, Lord my God!

Listen, all you peoples;pay attention, earth and everyone in it!The Lord God will be a witness against you,the Lord, from His holy temple.

Look, the Lord is leaving His placeand coming down to tramplethe heights of the earth.

Rise and thresh, Daughter Zion,for I will make your horns ironand your hooves bronze,so you can crush many peoples.Then you will set apart their plunderto the Lord for destruction,their wealth to the Lord of all the earth.

He will stand and shepherd themin the strength of Yahweh,in the majestic name of Yahweh His God.They will live securely,for then His greatness will extendto the ends of the earth.

Listen to the Lord’s lawsuit,you mountains and enduring foundations of the earth,because the Lord has a case against His people,and He will argue it against Israel.

Then the earth will become a wastelandbecause of its inhabitantsand as a result of their actions.

The mountains quake before Him,and the hills melt;the earth trembles at His presence—the world and all who live in it.

Beware, I am against you.This is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.I will make your chariots go up in smokeand the sword will devour your young lions.I will cut off your prey from the earth,and the sound of your messengerswill never be heard again.

For the earth will be filledwith the knowledge of the Lord’s glory,as the waters cover the sea.

But the Lord is in His holy temple;let everyone on earthbe silent in His presence.

God comes from Teman,the Holy One from Mount Paran.SelahHis splendor covers the heavens,and the earth is full of His praise.

He stands and shakes the earth;He looks and startles the nations.The age-old mountains break apart;the ancient hills sink down.His pathways are ancient.

You took the sheath from Your bow;the arrows are ready to be used with an oath.SelahYou split the earth with rivers.

You march across the earth with indignation;You trample down the nations in wrath.

I will sweep away man and animal;I will sweep away the birds of the skyand the fish of the sea,and the ruins along with the wicked.I will cut off mankindfrom the face of the earth.This is the Lord’s declaration.

Their silver and their goldwill not be able to rescue themon the day of the Lord’s wrath.The whole earth will be consumedby the fire of His jealousy.For He will make a complete,yes, a horrifying endof all the inhabitants of the earth.

Seek the Lord, all you humble of the earth,who carry out what He commands.Seek righteousness, seek humility;perhaps you will be concealedon the day of the Lord’s anger.

The Lord will be terrifying to themwhen He starves all the gods of the earth.Then all the distant coastlands of the nationswill bow in worship to Him,each in its own place.

Therefore, wait for Me—this is the Lord’s declaration—until the day I rise up for plunder.For My decision is to gather nations,to assemble kingdoms,in order to pour out My indignation on them,all My burning anger;for the whole earth will be consumedby the fire of My jealousy.

Yes, at that timeI will deal with all who afflict you.I will save the lame and gather the scattered;I will make those who were disgracedthroughout the earthreceive praise and fame.

At that time I will bring you back,yes, at the time I will gather you.I will give you fame and praiseamong all the peoples of the earth,when I restore your fortunes before your eyes.Yahweh has spoken.

For the Lord of Hosts says this: “Once more, in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land.

“Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah: I am going to shake the heavens and the earth.

Then the man standing among the myrtle trees explained, “They are the ones the Lord has sent to patrol the earth.”

They reported to the Angel of the Lord standing among the myrtle trees, “We have patrolled the earth, and right now the whole earth is calm and quiet.”

For who scorns the day of small things? These seven eyes of the Lord, which scan throughout the whole earth, will rejoice when they see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.”

“These are the two anointed ones,” he said, “who stand by the Lord of the whole earth.”

Then I looked up and saw two women approaching with the wind in their wings. Their wings were like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and sky.

The angel told me, “These are the four spirits of heaven going out after presenting themselves to the Lord of the whole earth.

As the strong horses went out, they wanted to go patrol the earth, and the Lord said, “Go, patrol the earth.” So they patrolled the earth.

I will cut off the chariot from Ephraimand the horse from Jerusalem.The bow of war will be removed,and He will proclaim peace to the nations.His dominion will extend from sea to sea,from the Euphrates Riverto the ends of the earth.

An OracleThe word of the Lord concerning Israel.A declaration of the Lord,who stretched out the heavens,laid the foundation of the earth,and formed the spirit of man within him.

On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who try to lift it will injure themselves severely when all the nations of the earth gather against her.

On that day Yahweh will become King over all the earth—Yahweh alone, and His name alone.

Should any of the families of the earth not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts, rain will not fall on them.
