'Suffer' in the Bible
From that time [on] Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many [things] from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised on the third day.
But I say to you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did with him whatever they wanted. In the [same] way also the Son of Man is going to suffer [at] their hands."
And he began to teach them that it was necessary [for] the Son of Man to suffer many [things] and to be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise.
And he said to them, "Elijah indeed does come first [and] restores all [things]. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man that he should suffer many [things] and be treated with contempt?
saying, "It is necessary [for] the Son of Man to suffer many [things] and to be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised on the third day.
But first it is necessary [for] him to suffer many [things], and to be rejected by this generation.
And he said to them, "{I have earnestly desired} to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
Was it not necessary [that] the Christ suffer these [things] and enter into his glory?"
and said to them, "Thus it is written [that] the Christ would suffer and would rise from the dead on the third day,
But [the things] which God foretold through the mouth of all the prophets, [that] his Christ would suffer, he has fulfilled in this way.
For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name."
explaining and demonstrating that it was necessary [for] the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead, and [saying], "This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is the Christ."
that the Christ was to suffer [and] that [as] the first of the resurrection from the dead, he was going to proclaim light both to the people and to the Gentiles."
and if children, also heirs--heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer together [with him] so that we may also be glorified together [with him].
If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, but he himself will be saved, but so as through fire.
And if one member suffers, all the members suffer together; if a member is honored, all the members rejoice with [it].
But if we are afflicted, [it is] for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, [it is] for your comfort that is at work in the patient endurance of the same sufferings that we also suffer.
because to you has been graciously granted on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer on behalf of him,
For to this [end] we labor and suffer reproach, because we have put our hope in [the] living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of believers.
Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor me his prisoner, but suffer along with [me] for the gospel, according to the power of God,
for which reason also I suffer these [things]. But [I am] not ashamed, because I know in whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard [what] I have entrusted until that day.
Suffer together with [me] as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
in connection with which I suffer misfortune to the point of {imprisonment} as a criminal, but the word of God is not bound.
since it would have been necessary for him to suffer many times from the foundation of the world, but now he has appeared once at the end of the ages for the removal of sin by the sacrifice of himself.
For what credit [is it] if, [when you] sin and are beaten [for it], you endure? But if you endure [when you] do good and suffer [for it], this [finds] favor with God.
But even if you might suffer for the sake of righteousness, [you are] blessed. And do not be afraid of their intimidation or be disturbed,
For [it is] better to suffer for doing good, {if God wills it}, than for doing evil.
By all means do not let anyone of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler.
So then also those who suffer according to the will of God must entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing good.
Do not be afraid of [the things] which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw [some] of you into prison so that you may be tested, and you will experience affliction ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
