The Parable Of The Ten Virgins

1 Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, the friends of the bride, who took their lights, and went out with the purpose of meeting the husband.

1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

1 “Then (A)the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their (B)lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like 10 virgins(a) who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom.(A)

1 "At that time, the kingdom from heaven will be comparable to ten bridesmaids who took their oil lamps and went out to meet the groom.

2 And five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

2 Five of them were foolish, and five were (C)prudent.

2 Five of them were foolish and five were sensible.(B)

2 Now five of them were foolish, and five were wise,

3 For the foolish, when they took their lights, took no oil with them.

3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them,

3 When the foolish took their lamps, they didn’t take olive oil with them.

3 because when the foolish ones took their lamps, they didn't take any oil with them.

4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lights.

4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

4 but the (D)prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps.

4 But the sensible ones took oil in their flasks with their lamps.

4 But the wise ones took flasks of oil with their lamps.

5 Now the husband was a long time in coming, and they all went to sleep.

5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

5 Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep.

5 Since the groom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

5 Since the groom was late, all of them became sleepy and lay down.

6 But in the middle of the night there is a cry, The husband comes! Go out to him.

6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

6 But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’

6 “In the middle of the night there was a shout: ‘Here’s the groom! Come out to meet him.’

6 But at midnight there came a shout: "The groom is here! Come out to meet him!'

7 Then all those virgins got up, and made ready their lights.

7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

7 Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps.

7 “Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.

7 Then all the bridesmaids woke up and got their lamps ready.

8 And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lights are going out.

8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

8 The foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’

8 But the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’

8 "But the foolish ones told the wise, "Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out!'

9 But the wise made answer, saying, There may not be enough for us and you; it would be better for you to go to the traders and get oil for yourselves.

9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

9 But the (E)prudent answered, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’

9 “The sensible ones answered, ‘No, there won’t be enough for us and for you. Go instead to those who sell, and buy oil for yourselves.’

9 "But the wise ones replied, "No! There will never be enough for us and for you. You'd better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.'

10 And while they went to get oil, the master came; and those who were ready went in with him to the feast: and the door was shut.

10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

10 And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were (F)ready went in with him to (G)the wedding feast; and (H)the door was shut.

10 “When they had gone to buy some, the groom arrived. Then those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut.(C)

10 "While they were away buying it, the groom arrived. Those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet, and the door was closed.

11 After that the other virgins came, saying, Lord, Lord, let us in.

11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

11 Later the other virgins also came, saying, ‘(I)Lord, lord, open up for us.’

11 “Later the rest of the virgins also came and said, ‘Master, master, open up for us!’

11 Later, the other bridesmaids arrived and said, "Lord, lord, open up for us!'

12 But he made answer and said, Truly I say to you, I have no knowledge of you.

12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

12 But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’

12 “But he replied, ‘I assure you: I do not know you!’

12 "But he replied, "I tell all of you with certainty, I don't know you!'

13 Keep watch, then, because you are not certain of the day or of the hour.

13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

13 (J)Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.

13 “Therefore be alert, because you don’t know either the day or the hour.(b)

13 So keep on watching, because you don't know the day or the hour."

The Parable Of The Talents

14 For it is as when a man, about to take a journey, got his servants together, and gave them his property.

14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

14 (K)For it is just like a man (L)about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.

14 “For it is just like a man going on a journey.(D) He called his own slaves and turned over his possessions to them.

14 "Similarly, it is like a man going on a trip, who called his servants and turned his money over to them.

15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to everyone as he was able; and he went on his journey.

15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

15 To one he gave five (a)(M)talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he (N)went on his journey.

15 To one he gave five talents;(c) to another, two; and to another, one—to each according to his own ability. Then he went on a journey.(E) Immediately

15 To one man he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, based on their ability. Then he went on his trip.

16 Straight away he who had been given the five talents went and did trade with them, and made five more.

16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

16 Immediately the one who had received the five (O)talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents.

16 the man who had received five talents went, put them to work, and earned five more.

16 "The one who received five talents went out at once and invested them and earned five more.

17 In the same way he who had been given the two got two more.

17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

17 In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more.

17 In the same way the man with two earned two more.

17 In the same way, the one who had two talents earned two more.

18 But he who was given the one went away and put it in a hole in the earth, and kept his lord's money in a secret place.

18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

18 But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his (b)master’s money.

18 But the man who had received one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money.

18 But the one who received one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and buried his master's money.

19 Now after a long time the lord of those servants comes, and makes up his account with them.

19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

19 “Now after a long time the master of those slaves *came and *(P)settled accounts with them.

19 “After a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them.

19 "After a long time, the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.

20 And he who had the five talents came with his other five talents, saying, Lord, you gave into my care five talents: see, I have got five more.

20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

20 The one who had received the five (Q)talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’

20 The man who had received five talents approached, presented five more talents, and said, ‘Master, you gave me five talents. Look, I’ve earned five more talents.’

20 The one who had received five talents came up and brought five more talents. "Master,' he said, "you gave me five talents. See, I've earned five more talents.'

21 His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord.

21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and (R)faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will (S)put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your (c)master.’

21 “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy!’(F)

21 "His master told him, "Well done, good and trustworthy servant! Since you've been trustworthy with a small amount, I'll put you in charge of a large amount. Come and share your master's joy!'

22 And he who had the two talents came and said, Lord, you gave into my care two talents: see, I have got two more.

22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

22 “Also the one who had received the two (T)talents came up and said, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more talents.’

22 “Then the man with two talents also approached. He said, ‘Master, you gave me two talents. Look, I’ve earned two more talents.’

22 "The one with two talents also came forward and said, "Master, you gave me two talents. See, I've earned two more talents.

23 His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord.

23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and (U)faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’

23 “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy!’

23 "His master told him, "Well done, good and trustworthy servant! Since you've been trustworthy with a small amount, I'll put you in charge of a large amount. Come and share your master's joy!'

24 And he who had had the one talent came and said, Lord, I had knowledge that you are a hard man, getting in grain where you have not put seed, and making profits for which you have done no work:

24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

24 “And the one also who had received the one (V)talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed.

24 “Then the man who had received one talent also approached and said, ‘Master, I know you. You’re a difficult man, reaping where you haven’t sown and gathering where you haven’t scattered seed.(G)

24 "Then the one who had received one talent came forward and said, "Master, I knew that you were a hard man, harvesting where you haven't planted and gathering where you haven't scattered any seed.

25 And I was in fear, and went away, and put your talent in the earth: here is what is yours.

25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

25 And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’

25 So I was afraid and went off and hid your talent in the ground. Look, you have what is yours.’

25 Since I was afraid, I went off and hid your talent in the ground. Here, take what's yours!'

26 But his lord in answer said to him, You are a bad and unready servant; if you had knowledge that I get in grain where I did not put seed, and make profits for which I have done no work,

26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

26 “But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed.

26 “But his master replied to him, ‘You evil, lazy slave!(H) If you knew that I reap where I haven’t sown and gather where I haven’t scattered,

26 "His master answered him, "You evil and lazy servant! So you knew that I harvested where I haven't planted and gathered where I haven't scattered any seed?

27 Why, then, did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I would have got back what is mine with interest?

27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

27 Then you ought to have put my money (d)in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest.

27 then(d) you should have deposited my money with the bankers. And when I returned I would have received my money(e) back with interest.

27 Then you should've invested my money with the bankers. When I returned, I would've received my money back with interest.'

28 Take away, then, his talent and give it to him who has the ten talents.

28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

28 Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’

28 “‘So take the talent from him and give it to the one who has 10 talents.

28 Then the master said, "Take the talent from him and give it to the man who has the ten talents,

29 For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have more: but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

29 (W)For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.

29 For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.(I)

29 because to everyone who has something, more will be given, and he'll have more than enough. But from the person who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away from him.

30 And put out the servant who is of no profit into the outer dark: there will be weeping and cries of sorrow.

30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

30 Throw out the worthless slave into (X)the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

30 And throw this good-for-nothing slave into the outer darkness.(J) In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

30 Throw this useless servant into the darkness outside! In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'"

The Judgment Of The Sheep And The Goats

31 But when the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then will he be seated in his glory:

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

31 “But when (Y)the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then (Z)He will sit on His glorious throne.

31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels(f)(K) with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.(L)

31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels are with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.

32 And before him all the nations will come together; and they will be parted one from another, as the sheep are parted from the goats by the keeper.

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

32 All the nations will be (AA)gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, (AB)as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;

32 All the nations(g)(M) will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.(N)

32 All the nations will be assembled in front of him, and he will cull them out, one from another, like a shepherd separates sheep from goats.

33 And he will put the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.

33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

33 and He will put the sheep (AC)on His right, and the goats (AD)on the left.

33 He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on the left.

33 He will put the sheep on his right but the goats on his left.

34 Then will the King say to those on his right, Come, you who have the blessing of my Father, into the kingdom made ready for you before the world was:

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

34 “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, (AE)inherit the kingdom prepared for you (AF)from the foundation of the world.

34 Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom(O) prepared for you from the foundation of the world.(P)

34 "Then the king will say to those on his right, "Come, you who have been blessed by my Father! Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world,

35 For I was in need of food, and you gave it to me: I was in need of drink, and you gave it to me: I was wandering, and you took me in;

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

35 For (AG)I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; (AH)I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;

35 For I was hungryand you gave Me something to eat;I was thirstyand you gave Me something to drink;I was a stranger and you took Me in;

35 because I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger, and you welcomed me.

36 I had no clothing, and you gave it to me: when I was ill, or in prison, you came to me.

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

36 (AI)naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you (AJ)visited Me; (AK)I was in prison, and you came to Me.’

36 I was naked and you clothed Me;I was sick and you took care of Me;I was in prison and you visited Me.’(Q)

36 I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you took care of me. I was in prison, and you visited me.'

37 Then will the upright make answer to him, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food, and give it to you? or in need of drink, and give it to you?

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

37 Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink?

37 "Then the righteous will say to him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and give you something to eat, or thirsty and give you something to drink?

38 And when did we see you wandering, and take you in? or without clothing, and give it to you?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

38 And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?

38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or without clothes and clothe You?

38 When did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or see you naked and clothe you?

39 And when did we see you ill, or in prison, and come to you?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

39 When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’

39 When did we see You sick, or in prison, and visit You?’

39 When did we see you sick or in prison, and visit you?'

40 And the King will make answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Because you did it to the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

40 (AL)The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, (AM)to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’

40 “And the King will answer them, ‘I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’(R)

40 The king will answer them, "I tell all of you with certainty, since you did it for one of the least important of these brothers of mine, you did it for me.'

41 Then will he say to those on the left, Go from me, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire which is ready for the Evil One and his angels:

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘(AN)Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the (AO)eternal fire which has been prepared for (AP)the devil and his angels;

41 Then He will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels!(S)

41 "Then he will say to those on his left, "Get away from me, you who are accursed, into the eternal fire that has been prepared for the Devil and his angels!

42 For I was in need of food, and you gave it not to me; I was in need of drink, and you gave it not to me:

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

42 for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink;

42 For I was hungryand you gave Me nothing to eat;I was thirstyand you gave Me nothing to drink;

42 Here's why: I was hungry, and you gave me nothing to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me nothing to drink.

43 I was wandering, and you took me not in; without clothing, and you gave me no clothing; ill, and in prison, and you came not to me.

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

43 I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’

43 I was a strangerand you didn’t take Me in;I was nakedand you didn’t clothe Me,sick and in prisonand you didn’t take care of Me.’

43 I was a stranger, and you didn't welcome me. I was naked, and you didn't clothe me. I was sick and in prison, and you didn't visit me.'

44 Then will they make answer, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food or drink, or wandering, or without clothing, or ill, or in prison, and did not take care of you?

44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

44 Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not (e)take care of You?’

44 “Then they too will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help You?’

44 "Then they will reply, "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or as a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and didn't help you?'

45 Then will he make answer to them, saying, Truly I say to you, Because you did it not to the least of these, you did it not to me.

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

45 Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’

45 “Then He will answer them, ‘I assure you: Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me either.’(T)

45 Then he will say to them, "I tell all of you with certainty, since you didn't do it for one of the least important of these, you didn't do it for me.'

46 And these will go away into eternal punishment; but the upright into eternal life.

46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

46 These will go away into (AQ)eternal punishment, but the righteous into (AR)eternal life.”

46 “And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”(U)

46 These people will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life."
