When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about this man?"
Jesus said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me."
And while staying with them, he commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, "Which," he said, "you heard of from me;
He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority.
And after he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched him go into heaven."
In those days Peter stood up among the brethren (the company of persons was in all about a hundred and twenty), and said,
And they prayed and said, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two you have chosen
But others were mocking and said, "They are full of sweet wine."
For David did not ascend into heaven, but he says himself: 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand,
Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?"
And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
And Peter, along with John, directed his gaze at him, and said, "Look at us."
But Peter said, "I do not have silver and gold, but I give you what I have; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk."
Moses said, 'The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; you shall listen to everything he tells you.
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders,
When they had been released, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.
And when they heard this, they lifted their voices to God together and said, "Sovereign Lord, it is you who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them,
who by the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David your servant, said, 'Why did the gentiles rage, and the peoples plot futile things?
But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land?
Peter said to her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for such and such a price." And she said, "Yes, that was the price."
Then Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out."
But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison, and brought them out, and said,
And he said to them, "Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men.
So the twelve summoned the congregation of the disciples and said, "It is not right for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables.
They put forward false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking against this holy place, and the law;
And he said: "Hear me, brethren and fathers! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,
and said to him, 'Leave your country and your relatives, and go into the land that I will show you.'
'But I will judge the nation which they serve,' said God, 'and after that they will come out and worship me in this place.'
And the Lord said to him, 'Take off the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.
This is the Moses who said to the Israelites, 'God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren.'
and he said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God."
Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
The crowds with one accord were giving attention to what was said by Philip, when they heard and saw the signs which he did.
But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!
And Simon answered, "Pray for me to the Lord, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me."
But an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Get up and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." This is a desert road.
And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go up and join this chariot."
And he said, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
And the eunuch said to Philip, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?"
And as they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?"
And he said, "Who are you, Lord?" And he said, "I am Jesus whom you are persecuting,
Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and the Lord said to him in a vision, "Ananias." And he said, "Here I am, Lord."
And the Lord said to him, "Get up and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying,
But the Lord said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel;
So Ananias departed and entered the house. And after laying his hands on him said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."
All those who heard him were amazed, and said, "Is this not he who made havoc in Jerusalem of those who called on this name, and who had come here for the purpose of bringing them bound before the chief priests?"
Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; get up and make your bed." Immediately he got up.
But Peter sent them all out and knelt down and prayed; then turning to the body, he said, "Tabitha, arise." And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
About the ninth hour of the day he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God who had just come in and said to him, "Cornelius!"
And he stared at him in terror, and said, "What is it, Lord?" And he said to him, "Your prayers and alms have ascended as a memorial before God.
But Peter said, "No, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean."
While Peter was reflecting on the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Behold, three men are looking for you.
Peter went down to the men and said, "Behold, I am the one you are looking for; what is the reason you have come?"
They said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house, and to hear what you have to say."
And he said to them, "You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him; but God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
Cornelius said, "Four days ago to this hour, I was praying in my house during the ninth hour; and behold, a man stood before me in shining garments,
and he said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God.
And opening his mouth, Peter said: "I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality,
For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said,
But I said, 'No, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.'
And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'
And the angel said to him, "Dress yourself and put on your sandals." And he did so. And he said to him, "Wrap your cloak around you and follow me."
When Peter came to himself, he said, "Now I know for sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting."
They said to her, "You are out of your mind!" But she kept insisting that it was so. They said, "It is his angel."
But motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, "Tell this to James and to the brethren." Then he left and went to another place.
While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."
and said, "You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not stop making crooked the straight ways of the Lord?
Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said, "Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen:
And after he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king; concerning whom he testified and said, 'I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.'
And as John was completing his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.'
Therefore take care, so that what is said in the prophets may not come upon you:
Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first. Since you reject it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.
said with a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet." And he leaped up and began to walk.
But some believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up, and said, "It is necessary to circumcise them, and to charge them to keep the Law of Moses."
After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brethren, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe.
After some days Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us return and visit the brethren in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are."
She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!" And it came out at that very moment.
and when they had brought them to the magistrates they said, "These men are Jews and they are throwing our city into an uproar.
He brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."
But Paul said to them, "They have beaten us publicly, without trial, men who are Roman citizens, and have thrown us into prison; and do they now cast us out secretly? No! Let them come themselves and take us out."
And also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were conversing with him. Some said, "What would this idle babbler wish to say?" Others, "He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign deities,"because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.
So Paul stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: "Men of Athens, I see that in every way you are very religious.
'For in him we live and move and have our being,' as even some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'
Now when they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, "We want to hear you again on this subject."
But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook out his garments and said to them, "Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles."
And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, "Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent;
But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If it were a matter of wrong or of vicious crime, O Jews, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you;
but on taking leave of them he said, "I will return to you if God wills," and he set sail from Ephesus.
And he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."
And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" They said, "Into John's baptism."
Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus."
These he gathered together, with the workmen of similar trades, and said, "Men, you know that from this business we have our wealth.
And when the town clerk had quieted the crowd, he said, "Men of Ephesus, what man is there after all who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of the image which fell down from heaven?
But Paul went down and fell on him, and after embracing him, he said, "Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him."
And when they came to him, he said to them: "You yourselves know how I lived the whole time I was with you, from the first day that I set foot in Asia,
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"
