Now those who had arrested Jesus led [him] away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered.
But they couldn't find any, even though many false witnesses had come forward. At last two men came forward
saying, "Prophesy to us, you 'Christ.' Tell us who hit you?" [Note: By this time Jesus had been blindfolded. See Mark 14:65].
And when he had gone out into the entrance, another maid saw him, and says to those there, This man also was with Jesus the Nazaraean.
And Peter remembered the statement Jesus had said, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times," and he went outside [and] wept bitterly.
Now when morning had come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
Then [when] Judas, the one who had betrayed him, saw that he had been condemned, he regretted [what he had done] [and] returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and elders,
When the High Priests had gathered up the money they said, "It is illegal to put it into the Treasury, because it is the price of blood."
So, they conferred together [and decided] to buy "The Potter's Field" with the money [Note: This was probably an abandoned field where clay had been obtained for making pottery], for use in burying people who were not from the local area.
Then what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled, who said, "And they took the thirty silver coins, the price of the one who had been priced, [on] whom a price had been set by the sons of Israel,
And they gave them for the potter's field, as I had word from the Lord.
Now during a feast the governor had been accustomed to release to the crowd one prisoner whom they wanted.
And at that time they had a notorious prisoner named Jesus Barabbas.
So [after] they had assembled, Pilate said to them, "Whom do you want me to release for you--Jesus Barabbas or Jesus who is called Christ?"
(For he knew that they had handed him over because of envy.
And while he was on the judge's seat, his wife sent to him, saying, Have nothing to do with that upright man, for I have had much trouble this day in a dream because of him.
But the chief priests and the elders had persuaded the people, that they should ask Barabbas, and should destroy Jesus.
Then he released Barabbas for them, but [after] he had Jesus flogged, he handed [him] over so that he could be crucified.
and when they had stript Him, they covered Him with a scarlet robe;
And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews?
And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the military cloak and put his [own] clothes on him, and led him away in order to crucify [him].
And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
they gave him vinegar to drink, mingled with gall. And when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
And [when they] had crucified him, they divided his clothes among themselves [by] casting lots.
And the robbers also who had been crucified with him cast the same reproaches on him.
Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, expired.
And the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised,
And coming out of their resting-places, after he had come again from the dead, they went into the holy town and were seen by a number of people.
now the centurion, and they that were with him, to guard Jesus, having observ'd the earthquake, and all that had happened, were under great apprehensions, and said, certainly this was the son of God.
And there were many women there, observing from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, serving him,
And, when, evening, arrived, there came a rich man from Arimathaea, whose name was Joseph, who also, himself, had been discipled unto Jesus.
And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
and placed it in his [own] new tomb that he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a large stone to the entrance of the tomb [and] went away.
After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary of Magdala and the other Mary had gone to look at the grave,
Now there had been a great earthquake. For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and went and rolled the boulder back and remained sitting upon it.
He is not here, for He has risen just as He said [He would]. Come and see the place where the Lord had been lying,
And [while] they were going, behold, some of the guard of soldiers went into the city [and] reported to the chief priests everything that had happened.
And [after they] had assembled with the elders and had taken counsel, they gave a rather large sum of money to the soldiers,
And they took the money and did as they had been taught. And this report is current among the Jews until this day.
So the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated for them.
And when they saw him they worshiped him, tho' some had doubted.
And John was clothed with camel's hair, and had a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey.
And after John {had been taken into custody}, Jesus went into Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God
And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, even as they were in the ship mending their nets.
and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the people he had hired, and went after him.
And they were amazed at his teaching, because he was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like the scribes.
And there was in their synagogue a man who had an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
And forthwith, when they had come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
Now Simon’s mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and immediately they told Him about her.
Then He went up to her, grasped her hand, and had her get up. The fever left her, and she began to wait upon them.
Now [when it] was evening, when the sun had set, they began bringing to him all those {who were sick} and those who were demon-possessed.
And all the town had come together at the door.
And he healed many who were faring badly with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he did not allow the demons to speak, because they had recognized him.
And when they had found him, they said unto him, "All men seek for thee."
And Jesus had compassion on him, and put forth his hand, touched him, and said unto him, "I will, be thou clean."
And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
But he went out and began to publish it so much and to spread the story so far, that Jesus could not any more go into any town openly, but had to stay out in thinly settled places. But the people kept coming to Him from every quarter.
When He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home.
And a great number had come together, so that there was no longer room for them, no, not even about the door: and he gave them teaching.
And four men came to him with one on a bed who had no power of moving.
and because they could not come nigh unto him for press, they uncovered the roof of the house where he was. And when they had broken it open, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
And Jesus, seeing their faith, saith to him that had the palsy, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee.
Levi was at table in his house, and he had many tax-collectors and notorious sinners as guests, along with Jesus and His disciples, for there were many of them, and they began to follow Him.
And he said to them, Have you no knowledge of what David did, when he had need and was without food, he, and those who were with him?
And he entered into the synagogue again, and a man who had a withered hand was there.
And he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Come into the middle."
Then He asked them, "Is it right to do people good on the Sabbath, or to do them evil, to save life or to take it?" But they had nothing to say.
And when he had looked around on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
And the Pharisees went forth, and immediately had a consultation with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.
and from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan: and they that dwelled about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude: which when they had heard what things he did, came unto him.
Therefore He spake to his disciples, that there might be a small vessel attending Him, because of the multitude, least they should throng Him: for He had healed many,
For he had made such a great number well that all those who were diseased were falling down before him for the purpose of touching him.
Then Jesus went up on a hillside and called to himself those whom he had decided on, and they approached him.
and John the brother of James, (whom he had named Boanerges, that is to say, sons of thunder.)
And they came unto house, and the people assembled together again, so greatly that they had not leisure so much as to eat bread.
And when his friends had news of it, they went out to get him, saying, He is off his head.
And the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, "He is possessed by Beelzebul!" and "By the ruler of the demons he expels the demons!"
So when he had called them to him he spoke to them in parables. "How," said he, "can Satan cast out Satan?
Because they said, "He had an unclean spirit."
And again he was teaching by the seaside. And a very great number of people had come to him, so that he got into a boat on the sea and took his seat; and all the people were on the land by the seaside.
And some went on the stones, where it had not much earth; and it came up straight away, because the earth was not deep:
And when the sun was high, it was burned; and because it had no root, it became dry and dead.
And some went among the thorns, and the thorns came up, and it had no room for growth and gave no fruit.
And he said, "Whoever has ears to hear had better listen!"
When he was by himself, those who stayed about him with the Twelve asked him about the figures he had used.
Some of the seed that fell along the roadside represents where 'the word' was sown [i.e., preached]. When these people have heard, immediately Satan comes and takes away 'the word' which had been sown in them.
but [since] they had such shallow roots, they continued on for [only] a little while. Then, when trouble and persecution arose over [obeying] 'the word,' immediately they stumbled [i.e., and fell away from God].
And went to sleep and got up, night and day, and the seed came to growth, though he had no idea how.
And in many such parables spake He the word to them, as they had ability to hear it: but spake not to them without a parable.
And on that day, when the evening had come, he said to them, Let us go over to the other side.
And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the boat. And there were also with him other small boats.
And when he had got out of the boat, straight away there came to him from the place of the dead a man with an unclean spirit.
who had his dwelling in the tombs; and no one was able to bind him, not even with chains;
Because he had frequently been prisoned in chains and iron bands, and the chains had been parted and the bands broken by him: and no man was strong enough to make him quiet.
When he had spied Jesus afar off, he ran, and worshipped him,
