The entire place was called the Eshcol Valley on account of the cluster of grapes that the men of Israel had taken from there.
But the men who had gone up with him responded, “We can’t go up against the people because they are stronger than we are!”
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched to the sons of Israel, saying, The land through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up those who live in it. And all the people whom we saw in it were men of stature.
And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron. And the whole congregation said to them, Oh that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or, Oh that we had died in the wilderness!
Nun's son Joshua and Jephunneh's son Caleb, who had accompanied the others who also had explored the land, tore their clothes
And they will give the news to the people of this land: they have had word that you, Lord, are present with this people, letting yourself be seen face to face, and that your cloud is resting over them, and that you go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.
Now if you put to death all this people as one man, then the nations who have had word of your glory will say,
Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land that he had sworn unto them, he has therefore slain them in the wilderness.
May the sin of this people have forgiveness, in the measure of your great mercy, as you have had mercy on them from Egypt up till now.
But My servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed Me fully, I will bring him into the land into which he went. And his seed shall possess it.
And the men whom Moses had sent to search out the land, who returned, and made the whole assembly to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report upon the land,
even those men who had brought up an evil report upon the land, died by a plague before Jehovah.
However, Nun's son Joshua and Jephunneh's son Caleb, who had explored the land, remained alive.
After Moses had told all of this to the Israelis, the people deeply mourned.
So they got up early the next morning and traveled to the top of the mountain, telling themselves, "Look, we're here and we're going to go up to the place that the LORD had spoken about, even though we've sinned."
"Here's what you are to do when you all go astray and fail to observe all these commands that the LORD had spoken to Moses,
Because he had no respect for the word of the Lord, and did not keep his law, that man will be cut off without mercy and his sin will be on him.
And they put him under guard because it had not been clearly said what should be done to him.
So the entire community brought him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
And came before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty chiefs of the people, men of good name who had a place in the meeting of the people.
When Korah had assembled the entire community in opposition to Moses and Aaron at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, the glory of the LORD appeared to the entire community.
And it happened, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, the ground under them split apart.
They and all that they had went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed upon them. And they perished from among the congregation.
And there came out a fire from Jehovah, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that had presented incense.
As for the censers of these sinners against their own persons, they shall be made into beaten-out plates as an overlay for the altar, for hey had brought them near before Yahweh and hallowed them, - so shall they become a sign unto the sons of Israel.
And Eleazar the priest took the bronze fire-pans, the ones with which those who had been burned up had offered, and they were made into broad plates, a covering of the altar,
[it was] a memorial for the {Israelites}, so that {no strange man} who is not from {the offspring} of Aaron should approach the presence [of] Yahweh to burn a smoke offering; he will not be like Korah and his company, just as Yahweh had spoken to him by the hand of Moses.
Then, when the community had gathered against Moses and Aaron, they turned to the tent of assembly, and behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Yahweh appeared.
And Aaron did as Moses commanded and ran into the midst of the congregation. And behold! The plague had begun among the people. And he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.
Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides them that had died because of the matter of Korah.
Aaron then returned to Moses at the entrance to the tent of meeting, since the plague had been halted.
And it happened on the next day Moses went into the tabernacle of witness. And behold! The rod of Aaron for the house of Levi had budded and had brought forth buds, and had bloomed blossoms, and had yielded almonds.
So Moses did exactly what the LORD had commanded him to do.
A person who is clean is to take hyssop, dip it in the water, and sprinkle the tent, all the furnishings, and the people who were there. He is also to sprinkle the one who touched a bone, a grave, a corpse, or a person who had been killed.
And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying, Oh that we had died when our brothers died before Jehovah!
So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence
And lifting up his hand, Moses gave the rock two blows with his rod: and water came streaming out, and the people and their cattle had drink enough.
Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, Because you had not enough faith in me to keep my name holy before the children of Israel, you will not take this people into the land which I have given them.
So Moses did just what the LORD had commanded. They ascended Mount Hor right in front of the entire community.

When the whole community saw that Aaron had passed away, the entire house of Israel mourned for him 30 days.
And the Canaanite, the king of Arad who dwelt in the South, heard that Israel had entered by the way of Atharim, - so he made war with Israel, and took some of them captive.
When the LORD heard what Israel had decided to do, he delivered the Canaanites to them, and Israel exterminated them and their cities. They named the place Hormah.
And Moses made a serpent of bronze, and put it upon a pole. And it happened that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked upon the serpent of brass, he lived.
From there they traveled to the Well of Beer, where the LORD had instructed Moses, "Gather the people together and I'll give you water."
For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even to the Arnon.
Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, people of Chemosh: He gave his sons that had escaped, and his daughters into captivity to Sihon the king of the Amorites.
And so they destroyed him and his sons, and all his people until they had not spared a survivor; and they took possession of his land.
Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
So the responsible men of Moab and Midian went away, taking in their hands rewards for the prophet; and they came to Balaam and said to him what Balak had given them orders to say.
but the angel of the LORD stood on a narrow path that crossed the vineyards. It had walls on both sides of the path.
Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you made a mockery of me! If only I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now!"
and the donkey saw me, and turned aside before me these three times. Unless she had turned aside from me, surely now I would have killed you, and saved her alive."
If she hadn't turned away from me, I would have killed you by now and left her alive!" At this, Balaam replied to the angel of the LORD, "I've sinned! I didn't know that you were standing to meet me on the road. So now, since it displeases you, let me go back."
When Balak heard that Balaam had come, he went out to meet him to the City of Moab, which is on the border of the Arnon, which is in the utmost part of the border.
Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bull and a ram.
So Balaam returned to where Balak had been standing, that is, next to his offerings, accompanied by all the Moabite officials.
And in the words which the Lord had given him he said, From Aram Balak has sent for me, the king of Moab from the mountains of the East: come, put curses on Jacob for me and be angry with Israel.
So Balaam returned to where Balak had been standing, that is, next to his offerings, accompanied by the Moabite officials. "What did the LORD say?" Balak asked him.
And in the words which the Lord had given him he said, Up! Balak, and give ear; give attention to me, O son of Zippor:
See, I have had orders to give blessing: and he has given a blessing which I have no power to take away.
Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.
When Balaam noticed that the LORD was pleased that Balaam was blessing Israel, he didn't behave as he had time after time before, that is, to practice divination. Instead, he turned with his face to the wilderness,
Now get out of here! I had promised you that I would definitely honor you, but now the LORD has kept me from doing that!"
Balaam said to Balak, “
who also invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods. So the people ate what they had sacrificed and then worshipped their gods.
So Israel had relations with the women of Moab in honour of the Baal of Peor: and the Lord was moved to wrath against Israel.
So Moses said to the judges of Israel, Let everyone put to death those of his men who have had relations with the women of Moab in honour of the Baal of Peor.
Then was it found that they who had died by the plague were four and twenty thousand.
"Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned mine anger away from the children of Israel, because he was jealous for my sake among them; that I had not consumed the children of Israel in my jealousy.
“Take a census of those 20 years old or more, as the Lord had commanded Moses and the Israelites who came out of the land of Egypt.”
And the sons of Eliab: Nemuel and Dathan and Abiram. These are the same Dathan and Abiram who had a place in the meeting of the people, who together with Korah made an outcry against Moses and Aaron and against the Lord:
The ground had opened its mouth and swallowed them up, along with Korah. Also, that group died when the fire devoured 250 men as a warning sign,
The sons of Judah, Er and Onan: and Er and Onan had come to their death in the land of Canaan.
And Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters. And the names of the daughters of Zelophehad: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah;
Now Kohath had a son named Amram. Amram's wife was Levi's daughter Jochebed, who was born to Levi in Egypt. She gave birth to Aaron, Moses, and their sister Miriam.
And they who were numbered of them were found to be - twenty-three thousand, all the males from one month old and upwards - for they had not numbered themselves in the midst of the sons of Israel, because there was given unto them no inheritance, in the midst of the sons of Israel.
But among them there was not one of those who had been registered by Moses and Aaron the priest when they registered the Israelites in the Wilderness of Sinai.
For Jehovah had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not a man left of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.
Now the daughters of Hepher's son Zelophehad, Gilead's grandson, who had been fathered by Machir, who had been fathered by Manasseh, from the tribe of Manasseh, the direct son of Joseph, were named Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. They approached
Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of those who gathered themselves against Jehovah in the company of Korah, but died in his own sin, and had no sons.
Why should the name of our father be taken away from among his family, because he had no son? Give to us a possession among the brothers of our father."
Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua, had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire community,
laid his hands on him, and commissioned him, as the Lord had spoken through Moses.
and her father hears her vow and the obligations that she had pledged herself to fulfill, yet her father keeps silent about it, then all her vows and every obligation she pledged herself to are to stand.
But if her father disallows her on the same day that he hears what she has said, then all her vows and every obligation she had pledged herself to fulfill are not to stand. The LORD will forgive her, because her father has forbidden her."
And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul;
and her husband hears her vow, yet remains silent on the day that he hears it, then her vows are to stand and the obligation to which she had pledged herself is to stand.
But and if her husband forbade her the same day that he heard it, then hath he made her vow which she had upon her of none effect, and that also which she pronounced with her lips wherewith she bound her soul, and the LORD shall forgive her.
If, while she had been living in her late or former husband's house, she makes a vow or a promise that binds her with an oath,
But if her husband hold his peace from one day unto another, then he establisheth all her vows and bonds which she had upon her, because he held his peace the same day that he heard them.
But if he nullified them after he had heard, then he will be responsible for any resulting iniquity."
They waged war against Midian, as the Lord had commanded Moses, and killed every male.
They killed the kings of Midian in addition to the ones they had slain: Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, the five kings of Midian; they also killed Balaam son of Beor by the sword.
They burned every town where they had lived and incinerated all of their encampments.
And they brought the captives, and that which they had taken, and all the spoil, unto Moses and Eleazar the priest; and unto the company of the children of Israel, even unto the host in the fields of Moab by Jordan nigh to Jericho.
Then Moses and Eleazar the priest and the chiefs of the people went out to them before they had come into the tent-circle.
