For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have its approval. For government is God’s servant for your good. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. These things should have been done without neglecting the others.

“But woe to you Pharisees! You give a tenth of mint, rue, and every kind of herb, and you bypass justice and love for God. These things you should have done without neglecting the others.

They profess to know God, but they deny Him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, and disqualified for any good work.

But your iniquities have built barriers
between you and your God,
and your sins have made Him hide His face from you
so that He does not listen.

Do not banish me from Your presence
or take Your Holy Spirit from me.

If I had been aware of malice in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened.

They go with their flocks and herds
to seek the Lord
but do not find Him;
He has withdrawn from them.

then your light will shine in the darkness,
and your night will be like noonday.
The Lord will always lead you,
