'Down' in the Bible
I went out at night through the Valley Gate toward the Serpent’s Well and the Dung Gate, and I inspected the walls of Jerusalem that had been broken down and its gates that had been destroyed by fire.
I went on to the Fountain Gate and the King’s Pool, but farther down it became too narrow for my animal to go through.
So I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in. Jerusalem lies in ruins and its gates have been burned down. Come, let’s rebuild Jerusalem’s wall, so that we will no longer be a disgrace.”
Then Tobiah the Ammonite, who was beside him, said, “Indeed, even if a fox climbed up what they are building, he would break down their stone wall!”
So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?”
Ezra praised the Lord, the great God, and with their hands uplifted all the people said, “Amen, Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
You came down on Mount Sinai,and spoke to them from heaven.You gave them impartial ordinances, reliable instructions,and good statutes and commands.
Some time later, when King Ahasuerus’s rage had cooled down, he remembered Vashti, what she had done, and what was decided against her.
The entire royal staff at the King’s Gate bowed down and paid homage to Haman, because the king had commanded this to be done for him. But Mordecai would not bow down or pay homage.
When Haman saw that Mordecai was not bowing down or paying him homage, he was filled with rage.

That messenger was still speaking when yet another came and reported: “The Chaldeans formed three bands, made a raid on the camels, and took them away. They struck down the servants with the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
Now I would certainly be lying down in peace;I would be asleep.Then I would be at rest
When I lie down I think:When will I get up?But the evening drags on endlessly,and I toss and turn until dawn.
As a cloud fades away and vanishes,so the one who goes down to Sheol will never rise again.
Why not forgive my sinand pardon my transgression?For soon I will lie down in the grave.You will eagerly seek me, but I will be gone.
They sweep by like boats made of papyrus,like an eagle swooping down on its prey.
You will be confident, because there is hope.You will look carefully about and lie down in safety.
You will lie down without fear,and many will seek your favor.
Whatever He tears down cannot be rebuilt;whoever He imprisons cannot be released.
There is hope for a tree:If it is cut down, it will sprout again,and its shoots will not die.
so man lies down never to rise again.They will not wake up until the heavens are no more;they will not stir from their sleep.
Will it go down to the gates of Sheol,or will we descend together to the dust?
He tears me down on every side so that I am ruined.He uproots my hope like a tree.
I wish that my words were written down,that they were recorded on a scroll
His bones may be full of youthful vigor,but will lie down with him in the grave.
When he fills his stomach,God will send His burning anger against him,raining it down on him while he is eating.
They spend their days in prosperityand go down to Sheol in peace.
He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more;when he opens his eyes, it is gone.

So he is oppressed and beaten down;the helpless fall because of his strength.
The Lord looks down from heaven on the human raceto see if there is one who is wise,one who seeks God.
Rise up, Lord!Confront him; bring him down.With Your sword, save me from the wicked.
He parted the heavens and came down,a dark cloud beneath His feet.
He reached down from heavenand took hold of me;He pulled me out of deep waters.

and the king will desire your beauty.Bow down to him, for he is your lord.

This is why God will bring you down forever.He will take you, ripping you out of your tent;He will uproot you from the land of the living.Selah

For He has delivered me from every trouble,and my eye has looked down on my enemies.
because of the enemy’s voice,because of the pressure of the wicked.For they bring down disaster on meand harass me in anger.
Let death take them by surprise;let them go down to Sheol alive,because evil is in their homes and within them.
God, You will bring them downto the Pit of destruction;men of bloodshed and treacherywill not live out half their days.But I will trust in You.
Will they escape in spite of such sin?God, bring down the nations in wrath.
