'Poor' in the Bible
"Blessed [are] the poor in spirit, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
the blind receive sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised, and the poor have good news announced to [them].
Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give [the proceeds] to the poor--and you will have treasure in heaven--and come, follow me."
For this could have been sold for a large sum and given to the poor!"
For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.
And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, "You lack one [thing]: Go, sell all that you have, and give [the proceeds] to the poor--and you will have treasure in heaven--and come, follow me."
And one poor widow came [and] put in two small copper coins (that is, a penny).
And summoning his disciples, he said to them, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow put in more than all those who put [offerings] into the contribution box.
For this perfumed oil could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor!" And they began to scold her.
For the poor you always have with you, and you can do good for them whenever you want, but you do not always have me.
"The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because of which he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out in freedom those who are oppressed,
And he lifted up his eyes to his disciples [and] said, "Blessed [are] the poor, because yours is the kingdom of God.
And he answered [and] said to them, "Go [and] tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear; the dead are raised, the poor have good news announced to [them].
But whenever you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,
And the slave came [and] reported these [things] to his master. Then the master of the house became angry [and] said to his slave, 'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the city and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and lame!'
And a certain poor man {named} Lazarus, covered with sores, lay at his gate,
Now it happened that the poor man died, and he was carried away by the angels to {Abraham's side}. And the rich man also died and was buried.
And [when he] heard [this], Jesus said to him, "{You still lack one thing}: Sell all that you have, and distribute [the proceeds] to the poor--and you will have treasure in heaven--and come, follow me."
And Zacchaeus stopped [and] said to the Lord, "Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I am giving to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone, I am paying [it] back four times [as much]!"
and he saw a certain poor widow putting in there two small copper coins.
And he said, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow put in more than all [of them].
"{Why} was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?"
(Now he said this not because {he was concerned} about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, he used to steal what was put into [it].)
For you have the poor with you always, but you do not always have me."
For some were thinking because Judas had the money box, Jesus was telling him, "Purchase {what we need} for the feast," or that he should give something to the poor.)
For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.
as grieving, but always rejoicing, as poor, but making many rich, as having nothing, and possessing everything.
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that [although he] was rich, for your sake he became poor, in order that you, by his poverty, may become rich.
Just as it is written, "He scattered widely, he gave to the poor; his righteousness remains {forever}."
[They asked] only that we should remember the poor, the very thing I was also eager to do.
For if someone enters into your assembly in fine clothing with a gold ring on his finger, and a poor person in filthy clothing also enters,
and you look favorably on the one wearing the fine clothing and you say, "Be seated here in a good place," and to the poor person you say, "You stand or be seated there by my footstool,"
Listen, my dear brothers! Did not God choose the poor of the world [to be] rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?
But you have dishonored the poor! Are not the rich exploiting you and they themselves dragging you into the courts?
Because you are saying, "I am rich, and have become rich, and I have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and pitiable and poor and blind and naked,
And he causes all [people], the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the slave, that they give them a mark on their right hand or on their forehead,
