'Says' in the Bible
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order.
In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says,‘You will keep on hearing, but will not understand;You will keep on seeing, but will not perceive;
If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”
Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘There He is,’ do not believe him.
But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My master is not coming for a long time,’
And He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is near; I am to keep the Passover at your house with My disciples.”’”
but you say, ‘If a man says to his father or his mother, whatever I have that would help you is Corban (that is to say, given to God),’
If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ you say, ‘The Lord has need of it’; and immediately he will send it back here.”
Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him.
And then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ’; or, ‘Behold, He is there’; do not believe him;
and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is My guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’
[And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with transgressors.”]
And no one, after drinking old wine wishes for new; for he says, ‘The old is good enough.’”
“When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding any, it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’
But if that slave says in his heart, ‘My master will be a long time in coming,’ and begins to beat the slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk;
For David himself says in the book of Psalms,‘The Lord said to my Lord,“Sit at My right hand,
And you shall say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’
His mother *said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
So the Jews were saying, “Surely He will not kill Himself, will He, since He says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’?”
So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.”
And again another Scripture says, “They shall look on Him whom they pierced.”
‘And it shall be in the last days,’ God says,‘That I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind;And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,And your young men shall see visions,And your old men shall dream dreams;
For David says of Him,‘I saw the Lord always in my presence;For He is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken.
For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says:‘The Lord said to my Lord,“Sit at My right hand,
Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you.
However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands; as the prophet says:
‘Heaven is My throne,And earth is the footstool of My feet;What kind of house will you build for Me?’ says the Lord,‘Or what place is there for My repose?
Therefore He also says in another Psalm, ‘You will not allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.’
Says the Lord, who makes these things known from long ago.
And coming to us, he took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands, and said, “This is what the Holy Spirit says: ‘In this way the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’”
Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God;
For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed throughout the whole earth.”
As He says also in Hosea,“I will call those who were not My people, ‘My people,’And her who was not beloved, ‘beloved.’”
For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”
However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?”
But I say, surely Israel did not know, did they? First Moses says,“I will make you jealous by that which is not a nation,By a nation without understanding will I anger you.”
And Isaiah is very bold and says,“I was found by those who did not seek Me,I became manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”
But as for Israel He says, “All the day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”
God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?
And David says,“Let their table become a snare and a trap,And a stumbling block and a retribution to them.
Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
For it is written,“As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me,And every tongue shall give praise to God.”
Again he says,“Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people.”
Again Isaiah says,“There shall come the root of Jesse,And He who arises to rule over the Gentiles,In Him shall the Gentiles hope.”
For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not mere men?
Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall become one flesh.”
Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
In the Law it is written, “By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people, and even so they will not listen to Me,” says the Lord.
The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says.
For He has put all things in subjection under His feet. But when He says, “All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him.
for He says,“At the acceptable time I listened to you,And on the day of salvation I helped you.”Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation”—
“Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord.“And do not touch what is unclean;And I will welcome you.
“And I will be a father to you,And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,”Says the Lord Almighty.
Therefore it says,“When He ascended on high,He led captive a host of captives,And He gave gifts to men.”
For this reason it says,“Awake, sleeper,And arise from the dead,And Christ will shine on you.”
But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,
For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing,” and “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”
And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says,“And let all the angels of God worship Him.”
And of the angels He says,“Who makes His angels winds,And His ministers a flame of fire.”
But of the Son He says,“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,And the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom.
Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says,“Today if you hear His voice,
just as He says also in another passage,“You are a priest foreverAccording to the order of Melchizedek.”
who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned by God when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, “See,” He says, “that you make all things according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.”
For finding fault with them, He says,“Behold, days are coming, says the Lord,When I will effect a new covenantWith the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;
Not like the covenant which I made with their fathersOn the day when I took them by the handTo lead them out of the land of Egypt;For they did not continue in My covenant,And I did not care for them, says the Lord.
“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of IsraelAfter those days, says the Lord:I will put My laws into their minds,And I will write them on their hearts.And I will be their God,And they shall be My people.
Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says,“Sacrifice and offering You have not desired,But a body You have prepared for Me;
“This is the covenant that I will make with themAfter those days, says the Lord:I will put My laws upon their heart,And on their mind I will write them,”He then says,
What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?
and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?
and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God.
For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.
But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;
the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now.
If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write:The One who holds the seven stars in His right hand, the One who walks among the seven golden lampstands, says this:
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.’
“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write:The first and the last, who was dead, and has come to life, says this:
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death.’
“And to the angel of the church in Pergamum write:The One who has the sharp two-edged sword says this:
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it.’
“And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write:The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze, says this:
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
“To the angel of the church in Sardis write:He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars, says this: ‘I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:He who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says this:
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this:
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”
And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, “Write, ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!’” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them.”
To the degree that she glorified herself and lived sensuously, to the same degree give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
