Thematic Bible: Condemned
Thematic Bible
Bribery » Condemned
Your rulers are rebels, friends with thieves. They all love bribes and run after gifts. They never defend orphans. They do not listen to the widows' pleas.
Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe makes the discerning blind to what is right and perverts the words of the righteous.
Evil schemes are in their hands. Their right hands are full of bribes.
A wicked man takes a bribe to pervert the ways of judgment.
You let the guilty go free for a bribe and you keep the innocent from getting justice.
He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil.
I know you have many transgressions and your sins are great. You afflict the righteous. You take bribes. You refuse to help the needy at the gate.
Business life » Dishonesty » Condemned
A false scale balance is an abomination to Jehovah. A perfect weight is his delight.
Jehovah says: The merchants use dishonest scales. They love to cheat people.
Can I be pure with wicked scales and with a bag of deceitful stone weights?
A person who gets rich dishonestly is like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay. During his lifetime, he will lose his wealth. In the end, he will be a wicked fool.
Good for nothing, cries the buyer. But when he goes his way he boasts about the purchase.
Do not have differing weights, a large and a small, in your bag.
Differing weights and differing measures, both of them are an abomination to Jehovah.
Wealth acquired by lying is fleeting vapor and a deadly pursuit.
Woe to him who builds his house without righteousness and his upper rooms without justice. Woe to him who uses his neighbor's services without pay and does not give him his wages.

Dullness » Condemned
No one stops to think. No one has enough knowledge or understanding to say: I burned half of the wood in the fire. I also baked bread over its coals. I roasted meat and ate it. Now I am making the rest of the wood into a disgusting thing and bowing to a block of wood.
Son of man, you are living among rebellious people. They have eyes, but they cannot see. They have ears, but they cannot hear because they are rebellious people.
A stupid (senseless) person cannot know and a fool cannot understand.
You hypocrites, you know how to interpret the face of the earth and the heaven but how is it that you do not know how to interpret this time?
Why do you not understand what I say? Can you not hear me?
There is no one who has insight. No one seeks God!
We have many things to say about him and it is hard to explain it to you, for you are dull of hearing (slow to learn).
Hardness (of heart) » Condemned
Thanks to your stubborn and unrepentant heart, you store up wrath for yourself, in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God.
Blessed is the man reverencing God. He who hardens his heart will fall into trouble.
He who is often reprimanded and hardens his neck will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
So he made us feel the force of his anger and suffer the violence of war. Like fire his anger burned throughout Israel. Yet we never knew what was happening. We learned nothing at all from it.
Encourage yourselves each day, as long as it is called Today, that none of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
Do not harden your hearts, as in the day of strife, as in the day of testing in the wilderness.

He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in the darkness!
Whoever hates his brother is a murderer! You know that no murderer has everlasting life remaining in him.
Hatred stirs up strife. Love covers all sins.
Better is a bowel of soup where there is love, than a steak with someone you hate.
If a man says, I love God, yet he hates his brother, he is a liar! He who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.
Never hate your brother in your heart. Be sure to correct your neighbor so that you will not be guilty of sinning along with him.

As you advance, force out all the people who live there. Get rid of all their stone and metal idols, and destroy all their places of worship.

They have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire. I did not command this. I would never think of such a thing. (It would not come from my heart.)
He got rid of the altars of foreign gods. He broke down the sacred stones. He cut down the poles dedicated to the goddess Asherah.
I will destroy your worship sites. I will cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies on top of your dead idols. I will view you with disgust.
Injustice » Condemned
Do not pervert the justice due an alien or an orphan. Do not take a widow's garment in pledge.
Never pervert justice. Always be impartial. Never take a bribe, because bribes blind wise people and deny justice to those who are in the right.
How long are you going to judge unjustly? How long are you going to show partiality to the wicked?
An unjust man is an abomination (disgusting) to the righteous. He who is upright in the way is an abomination (detestable) to the wicked.
It is not for kings, O Lemuel; it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes to desire strong drink. They will drink and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
I saw under the sun the place of judgment and wickedness was there. And wickedness was in the place of righteousness.
Whoever is faithful in little things will be faithful in large ones. Whoever is unrighteous in small things will be unrighteous in large ones.

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and screaming, and abusive speech, be put away (removed) (expiated) from you, along with all malice.
Now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech out of your mouth.
Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
Brothers, do not be like children in understanding. When it comes to evil be innocent children but in your thinking be mature adults.
Murmuring » Condemned
What protest may a living man make? Can a man protest about the punishment for his sin?
People who stray will learn to understand. Those who always grumble will be glad to be taught.
Man ruins his life by his own foolishness. His heart chafes with anger against Jehovah.
Do not grumble like some of them grumbled. Venomous snakes killed them.
Do all things without complaining (grumbling) (murmuring) and questioning (disputing).

He would not give him time. He put him into prison till he paid the debt.
Like the man does not wear a coat in winter, or like vinegar on soda, so is he who sings songs to a heavy heart.
A poor man that oppresses the poor is like a sweeping rain that leaves no food.

Sacrilege » Condemned
Do you not have houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the congregation of God, and shame them that have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I will not praise you!
Those who eat it will be punished because they have dishonored what is holy to Jehovah. They must be excluded from the people.
When you contribute the best part, you will not suffer the consequences of any sin. You will not be dishonoring the holy offerings given by the Israelites, and you will not die.'
