About three hours later, his wife came in, without having learned what had taken place. Peter said to her, "Tell me, did you sell the land for such and such a sum?" She answered, "Yes, that is it." Peter said to her, "How could both of you agree in such a way to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door; they will carry you out, too." Hebrews 2:9-14

but we do see Jesus, who was made inferior to the angels for a little while, crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by God's favor He might experience death for every human being. Matthew 27:34-53

they gave Him some wine mixed with gall, but when He tasted it, He would not drink it. Then they crucified Him and divided among them His clothes by drawing lots, and sitting down they kept watch of Him there. read more.
They put above His head the charge against Him, which read: "THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS." At the same time two robbers were crucified with Him, one at His right and one at His left. And the passers-by kept hissing at Him, shaking their heads and saying, "You who would tear down the temple and build another in three days, save yourself! If you are really the Son of God, come down from the cross." And the high priests, too, made sport of Him, with the scribes and elders, and said, "He saved others but He cannot save Himself. He is the king of Israel, is He? Well, let Him come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. He has put His trust in God; let God deliver Him now, if He cares for Him, for He said, 'I am the Son of God.'" Even the robbers who were crucified with Him made sport of Him in the same way. Now from twelve o'clock till three, darkness covered the whole land. About three Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which means, "My God! My God! why have you forsaken me?" Some of the bystanders, when they heard it, said, "He is calling for Elijah." So one of them at once ran off and took a sponge and soaked it in vinegar, put it on a stick and held it up to Him to drink. But the others said, "Wait, let us see if Elijah does come to deliver Him." But Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and gave up His spirit. And at once the curtain of the sanctuary was torn from top to bottom, the earth shook, the rocks were split, the tombs were opened, and many bodies of saints then sleeping in death rose and left their tombs, and after His resurrection went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

Mark 15:23-38

They offered Him wine flavored with myrrh, but He would not take it. Then they crucified Him and divided among them His clothes, by drawing lots for them to see which piece each of them should have. It was nine o'clock in the morning when they crucified Him. read more.
And the notice of the charge against Him read, "The king of the Jews." They crucified two robbers along with Him, one at His right and one at His left. Omitted Text. And the passers-by kept hissing at Him, shaking their heads and saying, "Aha! You are the man who would tear down the temple and build another in three days! Now save yourself by coming down from the cross." The high priests too made sport of Him to one another with the scribes, and kept saying, "He saved others but He cannot save Himself! Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see it and believe!" Even the men who were crucified with Him made sport of Him. At twelve o'clock darkness covered the whole land and lasted until three in the afternoon. And at three o'clock Jesus cried with a loud voice, "Eloi! Eloi! lama sabachthani?" which means, "My God! my God! why have you forsaken me?" Some of the bystanders when they heard it said, "Listen! He is calling for Elijah!" So one man ran and soaked a sponge in vinegar and put it on a stick and held it up to Him to drink, saying, "Wait, let us see whether Elijah does come to take Him down!" Then Jesus gave a loud cry, and expired. And the curtain of the sanctuary was torn in two, from top to bottom.

Luke 23:27-49

There was following Him also a vast throng of the people and of women who were beating their breasts and lamenting Him. But Jesus turned to the women and said, "Women of Jerusalem, stop weeping for me, but continue to weep for yourselves and for your children. For a time is coming when people will say, 'Happy are the women who are childless, and the women who have never borne and nursed babies!' read more.
Then people will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall upon us!' and to the hills, 'Cover us up!' For if they do this when the wood is green, what will they do when it is dry?" Two others, criminals, were also led out to be executed with Him. When they reached the place called "The Skull," they crucified Him there; also the criminals, one at His right and one at His left. They drew lots to divide His clothes among them. Meanwhile, the people stood looking on. Even the members of the council were scoffing at Him and saying, "He saved others, let Him now save Himself, if He really is the Christ of God, His Chosen One!" The soldiers also made sport of Him as they continued to come up and offer Him vinegar, and to say, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself!" Yes, there was a placard above His head: "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS." Now one of the criminals who were hanging from their crosses kept abusing Him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Then save yourself and us too!" But the other one reproved him and said, "Do you not fear even God when you are suffering the same penalty? And we are suffering it justly, for we are getting our deserts for what we have done, but this man has done nothing wrong." Then he went on to say, "Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingdom!" So He said to him, "I solemnly say to you, this very day you will be in paradise with me." It was already about noon, and darkness covered the whole country, and lasted until three o'clock, for the sun had failed to shine. And the curtain before the sanctuary was torn in two. Then Jesus uttered a loud cry, and said, "Father, I now commit my spirit to your care." As He said this He breathed His last. When the captain saw what had taken place, he praised God and said, "He certainly was an innocent man!" And all the crowds who had come together for this sight, when they had seen what took place, returned to the city but continued to beat their breasts in grief. But all His acquaintances, and the women who used to follow Him from Galilee in a group, were standing at a distance looking on.

John 19:16-30

So Pilate then turned Him over to them to be crucified. Then they took Jesus, and He went out carrying the cross by Himself to a spot called The Place of the Skull, or in Hebrew, Golgotha. There they crucified Him, with two others, one on each side, and Jesus in the middle. read more.
Pilate had a placard written and had it put over the cross: "JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS." Many of the Jews read this placard, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. So the high priests of the Jews said to Pilate, "You must not write, 'The king of the Jews,' but write, 'He said, I am the king of the Jews.'" Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written!" When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took His clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier, except the coat, which was without a seam, woven in one piece from top to bottom, So they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but let us draw for it to see who gets it." This was to fulfill the Scripture which says, "They divided my clothes among them, and for my clothing they cast lots." Now this was what the soldiers did. Near Jesus' cross were standing His mother and her sister Mary, the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. So Jesus, on seeing His mother and the disciple whom He loved standing near, said to His mother, "There is your son." Then He said to His disciple, "There is your mother." And from that very hour His disciple took her to his own home. After this, as Jesus knew that everything was now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, He said, "I am thirsty." A bowl full of sour wine was sitting there. So they put a sponge soaked in sour wine on a stick and put it to His lips. As soon as Jesus took the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" Then He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

Romans 14:7-8

death » How death entered into the world

1 Corinthians 15:20-23

But in reality Christ has been raised from the dead, the first to be raised of those who have fallen asleep. For since it was through a man that death resulted, it was also through a man that the resurrection of the dead resulted. For just as all men die by virtue of their descent from Adam, so all such as are in union with Christ will be made to live again. read more.
But each in his proper order; Christ first, then at His coming those who belong to Christ.

Romans 5:12-21

So here is the comparison: As through one man sin came into the world, and death as the consequence of sin, and death spread to all men; because all men sinned. Certainly sin was in the world before the law was given, but it is not charged to men's account where there is no law. And yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the way Adam had, against a positive command. For Adam was a figure of Him who was to come. read more.
But God's free gift is not at all to be compared with the offense. For if by one man's offense the whole race of men have died, to a much greater degree God's favor and His gift imparted by His favor through the one man Jesus Christ, has overflowed for the whole race of men. And the gift is not fit all to be compared with the results of that one man's sin. For that sentence resulted from the offense of one man, and it meant condemnation, but the free gift resulted from the offenses of many, and it meant right standing. For if by one man's offense death reigned through that one, to a much greater degree will those who continue to receive the overflow of His unmerited favor and His gift of right standing with Himself, reign in real life through One, Jesus Christ. So, as through one offense there resulted condemnation for all men, just so through one act of uprightness there resulted right standing involving life for all men. For just as by that man's disobedience the whole race of men were constituted sinners, so by this One's obedience the whole race of men may be brought into right standing with God. Then law crept in to multiply the offense. Though sin has multiplied, yet God's favor has surpassed it and overflowed, so that just as sin had reigned by death, so His favor too might reign in right standing with God which issues in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

death » Why the body dies

Romans 8:10-11

But if Christ lives in you, although your bodies must die because of sin, your spirits are now enjoying life because of right standing with God. If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead has His home within you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give your mortal bodies life through His Spirit that has His home within you.

1 Corinthians 15:35-38

But someone will ask, "How can the dead rise? With what kind of body do they come back?" You foolish man! the seed that you sow never comes to life unless it dies first; and what you sow does not have the body that it is going to have, but is a naked grain, of wheat (it may be) or something else; read more.
but God gives it just the body He sees fit, even each kind of seed its own body.

Colossians 2:20

If once through fellowship with Christ you died and were separated from the world's crude notions, why do you live as though you belonged to the world? Why submit to rules such as,

Romans 6:2-11

Not at all! Since we have ended our relation to sin, how can we live in it any longer? Or, do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into union with Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? So through baptism we have been buried with Him in death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the Father's glorious power, so we too should live an entirely new life. read more.
For if we have grown into fellowship with Him by sharing a death like His, surely we shall share a resurrection life like His, for we know that our former self was crucified with Him, to make our body that is liable to sin inactive, so that we might not a moment longer continue to be slaves to sin. For when a man is dead, he is freed from the claims of sin. So if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, for we know that Christ, who once was raised from the dead, will never die again; death has no more power over Him. For by the death He died He once for all ended His relation to sin, and by the life He now is living He lives in unbroken relation to God. So you too must consider yourselves as having ended your relation to sin but living in unbroken relation to God.

Romans 7:1-10

Do you not know, brothers -- for I speak to those who are acquainted with the law -- that the law can press its claim over a man only so long as he lives? For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies, she is freed from the marriage bond. So if she marries another man while her husband is living, she is called an adulteress, but if he dies, she is free from that marriage bond, so that she will not be an adulteress though later married to another man. read more.
So, my brothers, you too in the body of Christ have ended your relation to the law, so that you may be married to another husband, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. For when we were living in accordance with our lower nature, the sinful passions that were aroused by the law were operating in the parts of our bodies to make us bear fruit that leads to death. But now we have been freed from our relation to the law; we have ended our relation to that by which we once were held in bonds, so that we may serve in a new spiritual way and not in the old literalistic way. What are we then to conclude? Is the law sin? Of course not! Yet, if it had not been for the law, I should not have learned what sin was, for I should not have known what an evil desire was, if the law had not said, "You must not have an evil desire." Sin found its rallying point in that command and stirred within me every sort of evil desire, for without law, sin is lifeless. I was once alive when I had no connection with the law, but when the command came, sin revived, and then I died; and so, in my case, the command which should have meant life turned out to mean death.

Romans 5:12-17
