Hastings
This word is used in Scripture occasionally in the Elizabethan and primary sense of 'well-being' (e.g. 1Sa 2:32; Es 10:3 etc.), but generally in the more usual sense of affluent possessions (e.g. Ge 34:29; De 8:17-18; Ac 19:25 etc.).
1. Palestine is described in De 8:7-8 as rich not only in cereal but also in mineral wealth; but this may be a description more poetic than literal. It is, however, frequently spoken of as 'flowing with milk and honey' (Ex 3:8, etc. etc.)

For after all these things the heathen were seeking; for your heavenly Father knoweth that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

whom having assembled and the laborers about such things, he said, Men, you know that it is from this work that prosperity is to us:
For bodily exercise is profitable unto little; but godliness is profitable unto all things, having the promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
But those wishing to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown the people in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all evils: which some seeking after have wandered from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Charge the rich in this world not to think high things, nor to hope in uncertain riches, but in God, who richly supplies us all things for our enjoyment; that they do good, be rich in good works, be cheerful givers, ready communicators; read more. laying up for themselves a good foundation for the future, that they may lay hold on the life which is life indeed.
My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect to persons. For if a gold-ringed man may come into your synagogue, in shining apparel, and a poor man may also come in with soiled clothing; read more. and you may look upon the one wearing the shining garment, and say, Sit thou here in a good place; and may say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit down beneath my footstool: are you not condemned among yourselves, and have you not become the judges of evil reasonings? Hear, my beloved brethren. Has not God chosen the poor in the world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those who love him with divine love? You have dishonored the poor. Do not the rich domineer over you, and drag you into courts? Do they not blaspheme the good name which has been called upon you? If indeed you keep the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor with divine love as thyself, you do well.
Come now, ye rich, weep mourning over your calamities which are coming on you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments have become moth-eaten: read more. your gold and your silver are cankered; and their rust shall be for a witness against you, and eat your flesh like fire. You laid up treasures in the last days. Behold, the wages of the laborers having reaped your fields, which is fraudulently kept back by you, is crying out: and the voices of the reapers have come into the ears of the Lord of hosts. Ye flourished upon the earth, and were wanton; you nourished your hearts in the day of slaughter.
Because you are saying, That I am rich, and have increased in riches, and have need as to nothing, and do you not know that you are miserable, and pitiful, and poor, and blind, and naked?
