The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, one greater than Jonah is here.
that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it shall be required of this generation.

You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; but how is it you do not know how to interpret this present time?
And Jesus answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered this way?
He told this parable: "A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.
So he said to the keeper of his vineyard, 'Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why should it use up the ground?'
And he answered him, 'Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it.
Then ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound for eighteen years, be loosed on the Sabbath day from this bond?"
When he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.
and he who invited you both will come and say to you, 'Give place to this man,' and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place.
When one of those who sat at table with him heard this, he said to him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!"
So the servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in the poor and the maimed, the blind and the lame.'
saying, 'This man began to build, and was not able to finish.'
And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."
for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry.
But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you killed for him the fatted calf!'
It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.'"
He also said to his disciples: "There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and an accusation was brought to him that this man was wasting his goods.
So he called him and said to him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.'
So the master commended the dishonest steward because he had dealt shrewdly. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light.
The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they scoffed at him.
And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in this flame.'
And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'
for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'
So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.
Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?"
But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her justice, or she will wear me out by her continual coming.'"
Also he told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other menextortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
But when he heard this, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.
who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life."
But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.
And hearing a multitude going by, he asked what this meant.
And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.
But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, 'We do not want this man to reign over us.'
When he had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
saying, "If you had known, even you, this day, the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
and said to him, "Tell us by what authority are you doing these things? Or who it is that gave you this authority."
Then he began to tell the people this parable: "A man planted a vineyard, leased it to vine-dressers, and went into another country for a long time.
But when the tenants saw him, they reasoned among themselves and said, 'This is the heir. Let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.'
He will come and destroy those tenants, and give the vineyard to others." When they heard this, they said, "May this never be!"
But he looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone'?
The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the peoplefor they knew that he had spoken this parable against them.
And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage.
So he said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of the others;
But before all this, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. And you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake.
This will turn into an opportunity for you to bear testimony.
Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people.
Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all things take place.
"But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly like a trap.
And he said to them, "I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;
Then he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, "Take this and divide it among yourselves;
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me."
Likewise he took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this.
He said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day before you deny three times that you know me."
For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me, 'And he was numbered with transgressors'; for what is written about me has its fulfillment."
"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done."
But Jesus answered, "No more of this!" And he touched his ear and healed him.
When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness."
And a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight, looked at him, and said, "This man also was with him."
Then after about an hour had passed, another insisted, saying, "Certainly this fellow also was with him, for he is a Galilean."
And they began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man perverting our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king."
Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no crime in this man."
But they were urgent, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee to this place."
When Pilate heard this, he asked if the man was a Galilean.
That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.
and said to them, "You have brought this man to me as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. And behold, having examined him in your presence, I have found no guilt in this man concerning those charges which you make against him;
But they all cried out together, "Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas"
There was also an inscription written over him: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong."
And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." And having said this, he breathed his last.
Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he praised God, and said, "Certainly this was a righteous man!"
When all the multitudes who had gathered to witness this sight saw what had taken place, they beat their breasts, and returned home.
This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel.
It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told this to the apostles.
And he said to them, "What is this conversation which you are exchanging with each other as you walk?" And they stood still, looking sad.
But we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since all this happened.
As they were saying this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."
