exercise yourself in piety: for those exercises which relate only to the body are of little consequence, but piety is of absolute use, having the promises both of the present life, and of the life that is to come.

as for prophane and groundless fables, reject them.

every one that strives for the mastery, is extremely temperate: now, they do it to obtain a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible one.

but take care that this liberty of yours does not prove a scandal to the weak.

Jesus therefore told them, the kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and they, who are invested with their authority, take the title of benefactors.

there was given to him a mouth speaking great things, and blasphemy; and power was given to him for two and forty months.

if it be the ministry, let him attend on that ministry; and he that teacheth, on teaching; he that exhorteth,

whose advent HE will in his own time display, WHO is perfectly happy, who alone is omnipotent, the king of kings, and the lord of all that bear rule;

Wherefore, my beloved, as you have always obey'd the gospel, not only when I was with you, but much more now while I am absent, continue the work of your own salvation, whatever persecutions you apprehend:

He that aspires to be a bishop, desires an office that is honourable.

he might have the greater compassion for those who sin through ignorance or mistake. and for the same reason

to exhort you to feed the flock of God, which is among you: to take care of it, voluntarily, without reluctance, not from any view to sordid gain, but out of real affection;

that the bringing your faith to the test, produces constancy.

to knowledge, temperance: to temperance, patience: to patience, piety:

to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits; to another diversity of languages; to another the interpretation of languages.

Now unto him that is able to do infinitely above what we ask or comprehend, by his power operating in us,

that as sin prevailed unto death, even so might the divine favour prevail by righteousness unto eternal life, thro' Jesus Christ our Lord.

if the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? if the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling?

Let your minds then be duely prepar'd, be vigilant, and constantly expect the favour you will meet with at the appearance of Jesus Christ.

I own that the law is good, if a man make a right use of it:

and will not God avenge his own elect, who cry to him night and day? will he delay their cause?
