O wretched man that I am, what shall deliver me from this body of death?

being engag'd in the same conflict, in which you saw I was formerly, and hear that I am at present engag'd.

and probation, hope:

You have not yet resisted unto death, striving against sin.

this is what I earnestly strive to effect, by virtue of that power, which effectually operates in me.

happy is he that can stand the tryal: for when he has undergone the test, he shall receive that crown of life which the Lord has promised to those that love him.

you, who display the doctrine of eternal life) that in the day of Christ I may have the satisfaction of not having pursued my laborious course in vain.

I find then a settled custom, that evil is objected in my way whenever I have a mind to act well:

exert yourself in the glorious cause of faith, and secure the prize of eternal life, to which you were called, when you made that excellent profession of faith before so many witnesses.

for I experience, that in the carnal part of me dwells no good: for it is familiar to me, to will, but not to execute that which is good.

now then, it is not wholly I that do it, but the sinful passions that dwell in me.

for the light affliction, which I at present suffer, will be infinitely over-ballanced by an eternal weight of glory;

for when I came to Macedonia, I had no respit from the trouble that beset me on every side: oppositions from without, and apprehensions within.
