'Fighting' in the Bible
Give me nothing but the food which the fighting-men who went with me have had; but let Aner and Eshcol and Mamre have their part of the goods.
And the children were fighting together inside her, and she said, If it is to be so, why am I like this? So she went to put her question to the Lord.
Then he went away from there, and made another water-hole, about which there was no fighting: so he gave it the name of Rehoboth, for he said, Now the Lord has made room for us, and we will have fruit in this land.
Then Jacob was by himself; and a man was fighting with him till dawn.
The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, “Why are you attacking your neighbor?”
But God took the people round by the waste land near the Red Sea: and the children of Israel went up in fighting order out of the land of Egypt.
He caused their chariot wheels to swerve and made them drive with difficulty. “Let’s get away from Israel,” the Egyptians said, “because Yahweh is fighting for them against Egypt!”
"If two men are fighting and they strike a pregnant woman and her children are born prematurely, but there is no harm, he is certainly to be fined as the husband of the woman demands of him, and he will pay as the court decides.
But if you truly give ear to his voice, and do whatever I say, then I will be against those who are against you, fighting those who are fighting you.

Now let all your fighting-men make a circle round the town, going all round it once. Do this for six days.
The LORD then told Joshua, "Don't be afraid or lose heart! Take all the fighting men with you, and go up right now to Ai. Take note that I have handed over the king of Ai into your control, along with his people, his city, and his land.
So Joshua and the whole military force set out to attack Ai. Joshua selected 30,000 fighting men and sent them out at night.
The entire fighting force with him attacked, approaching the city, and camped on the north side of Ai, with a ravine between them and Ai.
Because Joshua and the entire fighting force of Israel pretended to lose the battle by running away in front of them toward the wilderness,
When Joshua and the entire fighting force of Israel observed that the men who had been in ambush had seized the city and that the smoke from the city was rising, they turned around and attacked the men of Ai.
When Israel had completed executing all of the residents of Ai in the open wilderness where they had chased them, and after all of them to the very last of them had been killed by swords, the entire fighting force of Israel returned to Ai and attacked it with swords.
So Joshua and his whole military force, including all the fighting men, came from Gilgal.
There has never been a day like it before or since, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man, because the LORD was fighting on behalf of Israel.
After this, Joshua returned to the camp at Gilgal with the entire fighting force of Israel.
And when they brought these kings to Joshua, Joshua called all the men of Israel and said to the commanders of {the fighting men} who had gone with him, "Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings." So they came near and put their feet on their necks.
And Joshua saith unto them, 'Fear not, nor be affrighted; be strong and courageous; for thus doth Jehovah do to all your enemies with whom ye are fighting;'
Then Joshua returned, accompanied by the entire fighting force of Israel, to Debir, where they attacked it,
and all these kings and their land hath Joshua captured at one time, for Jehovah, God of Israel, is fighting for Israel.
Then Joshua returned to the camp at Gilgal, along with the entire fighting force of Israel.
So Joshua and his entire fighting force approached them suddenly by the waters of Merom and attacked them.
and you have seen for yourselves everything the Lord your God did to all these nations on your account, because it was the Lord your God who was fighting for you.
One of you routed a thousand because the Lord your God was fighting for you, as He promised.
The stars from heaven were fighting; from their highways they were fighting against Sisera.
The Israelites humiliated Midian; the Midianites' fighting spirit was broken. The land had rest for forty years during Gideon's time.

And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in fighting order against Gibeah as before.
So all the men of Israel got up and put themselves in fighting order at Baal-tamar: and those who had been waiting secretly to make a surprise attack came rushing out of their place on the west of Geba.
And they came in front of Gibeah, ten thousand of the best men in all Israel, and the fighting became more violent; but the children of Benjamin were not conscious that evil was coming on them.
So they (the meeting) sent twelve thousand of the best fighting-men, and gave them orders, saying, Go and put the people of Jabesh-gilead to the sword without mercy, with their women and their little ones.
And the Philistines put their forces in order against Israel, and the fighting was hard, and Israel was overcome by the Philistines, who put to the sword about four thousand of their army in the field.
So the Lord sent Jerubbaal and Barak and Jephthah and Samuel and took you out of the power of those who were fighting against you on every side, and made you safe.
Saul and all the troops with him assembled and marched to the battle, and there, the Philistines were fighting against each other in great confusion!
How much more if the people had freely taken their food from the goods of those who were fighting against them! would there not have been much greater destruction among the Philistines?
There was intense fighting against the Philistines during Saul's entire reign, and whenever Saul discovered a strong or valiant warrior, he would enlist him for service.
The Lord of armies says, I will give punishment to Amalek for what he did to Israel, fighting against him on the way when Israel came out of Egypt.
And the Lord sent you on a journey and said, Go and put to the curse those sinners, the Amalekites, fighting against them till every one is dead.
Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
Then Saul clothed David with his own fighting attire and put a bronze helmet on his head. He also put body armor on him.
David strapped on his sword over his fighting attire and tried to walk around, but he was not used to them. David said to Saul, "I can't walk in these things, for I'm not used to them." So David removed them.
Jonathan stripped off the robe {that he was wearing} and gave it to David, along with his fighting attire, and even his sword, his bow, and his belt.
And Saul said to David, Here is my oldest daughter Merab, whom I will give you for your wife: only be strong for me, fighting in the Lord's wars. For Saul said, Let it not be through me that his fate comes to him, but through the Philistines.
And there was war again: and David went out fighting the Philistines, causing great destruction among them; and they went in flight before him.
It was reported to David: “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and raiding the threshing floors.”
Now when Saul came back from fighting the Philistines, news was given him that David was in the waste land of En-gedi.
Please forgive the offense of your servant. For the LORD will certainly make a strong dynasty for your majesty, for your majesty is fighting the LORD's battles. May evil not be found in you for all of your life.
And every time Achish said, Where have you been fighting today? David said, Against the South of Judah and the South of the Jerahmeelites and the South of the Kenites.
“Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” Samuel asked Saul.“I’m in serious trouble,” replied Saul. “The Philistines are fighting against me and God has turned away from me. The heaviest fighting was directed toward Saul, and when the bowmen who were shooting located Saul, he was severely wounded by them.
All the fighting men got up and, travelling all night, took Saul's body and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan; and they came to Jabesh and had them burned there.
And there was hard fighting that day; and Abner and the men of Israel gave way before the servants of David.
And Abner said, Then go to the right or to the left and put your hands on one of the fighting-men and take his arms. But Asahel would not be turned away from going after Abner.
The descendants of Benjamin rallied after Abner, and they became as one fighting group and stood on the top of a certain hill.
Then crying out to Joab, Abner said, Are fighting and destruction to go on for ever? do you not see that the end will only be bitter? how long will it be before you send the people back and make them give up attacking their countrymen?
So Joab sounded his battle trumpet, his entire army stopped pursuing Israel any longer, and they quit fighting.
And Joab came back from fighting Abner: and when he had got all his men together, it was seen that nineteen of David's men, in addition to Asahel, were not with them.
And David went to Baal-perazim, and overcame them there; and he said, The Lord has let the forces fighting against me be broken before me as a wall is broken by rushing waters. So that place was named Baal-perazim.
And David got together all the fighting-men of Israel to the number of thirty thousand;
David heard about it and sent Joab and all the fighting men.
When the sons of Ammon saw that the Arameans fled, they also fled before Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab returned from fighting against the sons of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.
In the letter he wrote:Put Uriah at the front of the fiercest fighting, then withdraw from him so that he is struck down and dies.
Now Joab was fighting against Rabbah, in the land of the children of Ammon, and he took the water-town.
“Your servant had two sons. They were fighting in the field with no one to separate them, and one struck the other and killed him.
The battle spread throughout the entire countryside, and the forest claimed more casualties that day than did the sword fighting.
So there went after Abishai, Joab and the Cherethites and the Pelethites and all the fighting-men; they went out of Jerusalem to overtake Sheba, the son of Bichri.
