'Back' in the Bible
They said therefore to him, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"
and said to him, “Everyone else serves his best wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then he serves that which is not so good; but you have kept back the good wine until now.”
So when he had come back again from the dead, the memory of these words came back to the disciples, and they had faith in the holy Writings and in the word which Jesus had said.
Nicodemus asked him, "How can a person be born when he is old? He can't go back into his mother's womb a second time and be born, can he?"
“Go call your husband,” He told her, “and come back here.”
Now at that very moment his disciples came back. They were shocked because he was speaking with a woman. However, no one said, "What do you want?" or "Why are you speaking with her?"
Then the woman left her water jar and went back to town. She told people,
When he heard that Jesus had come back from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and begged him to come down and heal his son, who was about to die.
Jesus told him, "Go home. Your son will live." The man believed what Jesus told him and started back home.
He answered them, “The Man who healed me and gave me back my strength was the One who said to me, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk.’”
and they got into a boat and started to cross the sea to Capernaum. It was already dark, and Jesus had still not come [back] to them.
From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
Then Jesus said, "I'll be with you only a little while longer, and then I'm going back to the one who sent me.
Then the officers returned to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why didn't you bring him back with you?"
Early in the morning He came back into the temple [court], and all the people were coming to Him. He sat down and began teaching them.
and when they continued asking him, having bent himself back, he said unto them, 'The sinless of you -- let him first cast the stone at her;'
And Jesus having bent himself back, and having seen no one but the woman, said to her, 'Woman, where are those -- thine accusers? did no one pass sentence upon thee?'
“Go,” He told him, “wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So he left, washed, and came back seeing.
This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it back again.
No one is taking it from me; I lay it down of my own free will. I have the authority to lay it down, and I have the authority to take it back again. This is what my Father has commanded me."
Jesus went back across the Jordan River again to the place where John had been baptizing at an earlier time, and he stayed there.
After this, he told the disciples, "Let's go back to Judea."
The disciples told him, "Rabbi, the Jewish leaders were just now trying to stone you to death, and you are going back there again?"
Jesus replied, "Your brother will come back to life again."
Martha said, "I know that he will come back to life again in the resurrection at the last day."
Having said this, she went back and called her sister Mary, saying in private, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.”
But some of them went back to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.
Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had made to come back from the dead.
Now it became widely known among the Jews that Jesus was there; but they came not only on His account, but also in order to see Lazarus whom He had brought back to life.
The large number of people, however, who had been present when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and brought him back to life, related what they had witnessed.
'He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, that they might not see with the eyes, and understand with the heart, and turn back, and I might heal them;'
Jesus knew that the Father had given everything into His hands, that He had come from God, and that He was going back to God.
So when Jesus had washed their feet and put his outer clothing back on, he took his place at the table again and said to them, "Do you understand what I have done for you?
So he leaned back against Jesus and asked Him, “Lord, who is it?”
If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also.
I'm not going to forsake you like orphans. I will come back to you.
You have heard me tell you, "I'm going away, but I'm coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I'm going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.
He cuts off every branch that does not produce fruit in me, and he cuts back every branch that does produce fruit, so that it might produce more fruit.
I left the Father and came into the world. Now I'm leaving the world and going back to the Father."
When He told them, “I am He,” they stepped back and fell to the ground.
Jesus told Peter, "Put your sword back into its sheath. Shouldn't I drink the cup that the Father has given me?"
Then Pilate went back into the headquarters, summoned Jesus, and said to Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?”
Pilate asked, "What is truth?" When he had said this he went back outside to the Jewish leaders and announced, "I find no basis for an accusation against him.
They shouted back, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a revolutionary.
He went back into the headquarters and asked Jesus, “Where are You from?” But Jesus did not give him an answer.
And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
Any to whom you give forgiveness, will be made free from their sins; and any from whom you keep back forgiveness, will still be in their sins.
That disciple whom Jesus kept loving told Peter, "It's the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put his clothes back on, because he was practically naked, and jumped into the sea.
So Peter went to the boat and came back pulling the net to land, full of great fish, a hundred and fifty-three; and though there was such a number the net was not broken.
Now this was the third time that Jesus let himself be seen by the disciples after he had come back from the dead.
So Peter turned around and saw the disciple Jesus loved following them. That disciple was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is the one that’s going to betray You?”
Jesus told him, "If it's my will for him to remain until I come back, how does that concern you? You must keep following me!"
So the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple wasn't going to die. Yet Jesus didn't say to Peter that he wasn't going to die, but, "If it's my will for him to remain until I come back, how does that concern you?"
