The Holy Ghost evidently shewing this, that the way into the holiest was not yet made manifest, while the first tabernacle was still subsisting,

For the law having a shadow of good things to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices which they offer year by year continually, make the comers thereunto perfect.

For they could not bear that which was commanded, If even a beast touch the mountain, let it be stoned.

Then said Paul to him, God is about to smite thee, thou whited wall. For sittest thou to judge me according to the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

Is then the law against the promises of God? God forbid. But if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness would have been by the law.

much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

And so terrible was the appearance, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and tremble. But ye are come to mount Sion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company, To the general assembly of angels, and to the church of the first born, who are inrolled in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, which speaketh better things than that of Abel. Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy but to fulfill. For verily I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all things be effected.

But Israel following after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? Thou that gloriest in the law, dost thou by transgressing the law dishonour God?

For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence:

Now therefore why endeavour ye to put a yoke on the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Did not Moses give you the law?

This is he that was in the church in the wilderness, with the Angel who spake to him in mount Sinai, and with our fathers; who received the living oracles to give to us:

If ye fulfil the royal law (according to the Scripture) Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well.

and have not kept it.

But certain men coming down from Judea taught the brethren, Except ye be circumcised, after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
