Lamentations 3

² Me, hath he driven out and brought into darkness, and not light;

² He has driven me and made me walkIn ^(B)darkness and not in light.

² He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light.

² He has driven me away and forced me to walkin darkness instead of light.^(A)

² He has led me brought me into darkness, not into light.

⁴ He hath worn out my flesh and my skin, hath broken my bones;

⁴ He has caused my ^(D)flesh and my skin to waste away,He has ^(E)broken my bones.

⁴ My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.

⁴ ב BetHe has worn away my flesh and skin;^(B)He has shattered my bones.^(C)

⁴ He made my flesh and skin prematurely old; he broke my bones.

⁶ In dark places, hath he made me sit, like the dead of age-past times.

⁶ In ^(H)dark places He has made me dwell,Like those who have long been dead.

⁶ He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.

⁶ He has made me dwell in darknesslike those who have been dead for ages.^(F)

⁶ He has forced me to live in darkness, like those who are long dead.

⁸ Yea, when I make outcry and implore, he hath shut out my prayer;

⁸ Even when I cry out and call for help,He ^(K)shuts out my prayer.

⁸ Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.

⁸ Even when I cry out and plead for help,He rejects my prayer.^(H)

⁸ Indeed, when I cry out, calling for help, he shuts out my prayer.

¹⁰ A bear lying in wait, he is to me, a lion, in secret places;

¹⁰ He is to me like a bear lying in wait,Like a lion in secret places.

¹⁰ He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places.

¹⁰ He is like a bear that lies in wait for me, a lion in hiding.

¹² He hath trodden his bow, and set me up, as a mark for the arrow.

¹⁴ I have become a derision to all my people, their song all the day;

¹⁴ I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day.

¹⁴ I am a laughingstock^(N) to all my people,^(b)mocked by their songs^(O) all day long.

¹⁴ I have become a laughingstock to all my people, the object of their taunts throughout the day.

¹⁶ And he hath crushed, with gravel-stones, my teeth, hath made me cower in ashes;

¹⁶ He has ^(T)broken my teeth with ^(U)gravel;He has made me cower in the ^(V)dust.

¹⁶ He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.

¹⁶ ו VavHe ground my teeth on gravel^(Q)and made me cower^(c) in the dust.

¹⁶ He broke my teeth on gravel, covering me with dust.

¹⁸ And I said, Vanished is mine endurance, even mine expectation, from Yahweh.

¹⁸ So I say, “My strength has perished,And so has my ^(X)hope from the Lord.”

¹⁸ And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD:

¹⁸ Then I thought: My future^(e) is lost,as well as my hope from the Lord.

¹⁸ So I say, "My strength is gone as is my hope in the LORD."

²⁰ Thou wilt, indeed remember, that, bowed down concerning myself, is my soul;

²⁰ Surely ^(Z)my soul remembersAnd is ^(AA)bowed down within me.

²⁰ My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

²⁰ I continually remember themand have become depressed.^(g)(U)

²⁰ My mind keeps reflecting on it, and I become depressed.

²² The lovingkindnesses of Yahweh, verily they are not exhausted, Verily! not at an end, are his compassions:

²² The Lord’s ^(AC)lovingkindnesses ^(f)indeed never cease,^(AD)For His compassions never fail.

²² It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

²² ח KhetBecause of the Lord’s faithful love^(W)we do not perish,^(h)for His mercies never end.

²² Because of the LORD's gracious love we are not consumed, since his compassions never end.

²⁴ My portion, is Yahweh, saith my soul, For this cause, will I wait for him.

²⁴ “The Lord is my ^(AG)portion,” says my soul,“Therefore I ^(AH)have hope in Him.”

²⁴ The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

²⁴ I say: The Lord is my portion,^(Y)therefore I will put my hope in Him.

²⁴ "The LORD is all I have," says my soul, "Therefore I will trust in him."

²⁶ Good it is - both to wait and to be silent, for the deliverance of Yahweh;

²⁶ It is good that he ^(AK)waits silentlyFor the salvation of the Lord.

²⁶ It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

²⁶ It is good to wait quietly^(AA)for deliverance from the Lord.^(AB)

²⁶ It is good to hope and wait patiently for the LORD's salvation.

²⁸ Let him sit alone, and keep silence, because he took it upon himself:

²⁸ Let him ^(AL)sit alone and be silentSince He has laid it on him.

²⁸ He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him.

²⁸ י YodLet him sit alone and be silent,^(AD)for God has disciplined him.

²⁸ He is to sit apart and remain silent, because the LORD has laid it upon him.

³⁰ Let him give, to him that smiteth him, his cheek, let him be sated with reproach.

³⁰ Let him give his ^(AO)cheek to ⁽ⁱ⁾the smiter,Let him be filled with reproach.

³⁰ He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.

³⁰ Let him offer his cheekto the one who would strike him;^(AF)let him be filled with shame.

³⁰ He will endure being slapped in the face, bringing him public disgrace.

³² Surely, though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion, according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses;

³² For if He causes grief,Then He will have ^(AQ)compassionAccording to His abundant lovingkindness.

³² But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.

³² Even if He causes suffering,He will show compassionaccording to His abundant, faithful love.^(AG)

³² though he causes grief, his compassion abounds according to his gracious love.

³⁴ To crush, under his feet, any of the prisoners of the earth;

³⁴ To crush under His feetAll the prisoners of the ^(k)land,

³⁴ To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,

³⁴ ל LamedCrushing all the prisoners of the land⁽ⁱ⁾beneath one’s feet,

³⁴ When any of the prisoners of the earth are crushed underfoot,

³⁶ To oppress a son of earth in his cause, My Lord, hath made no provision.

³⁶ To ^(m)(AT)defraud a man in his lawsuit—Of these things the Lord does not ⁽ⁿ⁾approve.

³⁶ To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.

³⁶ or suppressing a person’s lawsuit^(AJ)—the Lord does not approve of these things.

³⁶ When a man is thwarted in his appeal, does the Lord condone it?

³⁸ Out of the mouth of the Most High, Proceed there not misfortunes and blessing?

³⁸ Is it not from the mouth of the Most HighThat ^(p)(AV)both good and ill go forth?

³⁸ Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?

³⁸ Do not both adversity and goodcome from the mouth of the Most High?^(AL)

³⁸ Do not both good and evil things proceed from the mouth of the Most High?

⁴⁰ Let us search out our ways, and examine them well, and let us return unto Yahweh;

⁴⁰ Let us ^(AX)examine and probe our ways,And let us return to the Lord.

⁴⁰ Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.

⁴⁰ נ NunLet us search out and examine our ways,and turn back to the Lord.^(AM)

⁴⁰ Let us examine our lifestyles, putting them to the test, and turn back to the LORD.

⁴² We, have trespassed and rebelled, Thou, hast not pardoned.

⁴² We have ^(AZ)transgressed and rebelled,You have ^(BA)not pardoned.

⁴² We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.

⁴² We have sinned and rebelled;You have not forgiven.^(AO)

⁴² As for us, we have sinned and rebelled; but you have not pardoned us.

⁴⁴ Thou hast screened thyself with the clouds, that prayer, should not pass through;

⁴⁴ You have ^(BE)covered Yourself with a cloudSo that ^(BF)no prayer can pass through.

⁴⁴ Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through.

⁴⁴ You have covered Yourself with a cloudso that no prayer can pass through.^(AQ)

⁴⁴ You covered yourself with a cloud that prayer cannot pierce.

⁴⁶ With their mouth, opened wide over us, stand all our foes.

⁴⁶ All our enemies have ^(BH)opened their mouths against us.

⁴⁶ All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.

⁴⁶ פ PeAll our enemiesopen their mouths against us.^(AS)

⁴⁶ All our enemies jeer at us with gaping mouths.

⁴⁸ With streams of water, mine eye runneth down, over the grievous injury of the daughter of my people.

⁴⁸ My ^(t)(BJ)eyes run down with streams of waterBecause of the destruction of the daughter of my people.

⁴⁸ Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

⁴⁸ My eyes flow with streams of tearsbecause of the destruction of my dear people.

⁴⁸ My eyes run with rivers of tears over the destruction of my cherished people.

⁵⁰ Until Yahweh out of the heavens shall look forth, and see,

⁵⁰ Until the Lord ^(BL)looks downAnd sees from heaven.

⁵⁰ Till the LORD look down, and behold from heaven.

⁵⁰ until the Lord looks downfrom heaven and sees.^(AV)

⁵⁰ until the LORD bends down to see from heaven.

⁵² They, have laid snares, for me as a bird, who are mine enemies without cause:

⁵² My enemies ^(BM)without causeHunted me down ^(BN)like a bird;

⁵² Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause.

⁵² צ TsadeFor no apparent reason, my enemies^(j)hunted me like a bird.^(AW)

⁵² My enemies hunted me like a bird, viciously and without justification.

⁵⁴ Waters, flowed over, my head, I said, I am cut off!

⁵⁴ Waters flowed ^(BQ)over my head;I said, “I am cut off!”

⁵⁴ Waters flowed over mine head; then I said, I am cut off.

⁵⁴ Water flooded over my head,^(AY)and I thought: I’m going to die!^(AZ)

⁵⁴ Water closed over my head, and I said, "I'm a dead man."

⁵⁶ My voice, thou hast heard, - do not close thine ear to my respite, to mine outcry;

⁵⁶ You have ^(BS)heard my voice,“^(BT)Do not hide Your ear from my prayer for relief,From my cry for help.”

⁵⁶ Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

⁵⁶ You hear my plea:Do not ignore my cry for relief.

⁵⁶ You heard my voice don't close your ear to my sighs and cries.

⁵⁸ Thou hast pleaded, O My Lord, the pleas of my soul, hast redeemed my life;

⁵⁸ O Lord, You ^(BW)have pleaded my soul’s cause;You have ^(BX)redeemed my life.

⁵⁸ O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

⁵⁸ ר ReshYou defend my cause, Lord;^(BB)You redeem my life.^(BC)

⁵⁸ Lord, you have defended my cause; you have redeemed my life.

⁶⁰ Thou hast seen all their vindictiveness, all their plots against me.

⁶⁰ You have seen all their vengeance,All their ^(CA)schemes against me.

⁶⁰ Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me.

⁶⁰ You see all their malice,all their plots against me.^(BD)

⁶⁰ You examined their plans for vengeance, all of their plots against me.

⁶² The lips of mine assailants, and their mutterings, are against me, all the day;

⁶² The ^(CC)lips of my assailants and their whisperingAre against me all day long.

⁶² The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.

⁶² The slander^(l) and murmuring of my opponentsattack me all day long.

⁶² the whisperings of my opponents, their scheming against me all day long.

⁶⁴ Thou wilt render to them a recompense, O Yahweh, according to the work of their hands;

⁶⁴ You will ^(CF)recompense them, O Lord,According to the work of their hands.

⁶⁴ Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.

⁶⁴ ת TavYou will pay them back what they deserve, Lord,according to the work of their hands.^(BG)

⁶⁴ Pay them back, LORD, according to their actions.

⁶⁶ Thou wilt pursue in anger, and wilt destroy them, from under the heavens of Yahweh.

⁶⁶ You will ^(CH)pursue them in anger and destroy themFrom under the ^(CI)heavens of the Lord!

⁶⁶ Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD.

⁶⁶ You will pursue them in anger and destroy themunder Your heavens.^(n)(o)(BI)

⁶⁶ Pursue them in your anger and destroy them from under the LORD's heaven.
