Lessons From Israel's Past
1 Give ear, O my people, to mine instruction, Bend your ear to the sayings of my mouth;

1 Listen, my people, to my instruction. Hear the words of my mouth.
4 We will not withhold them from their children, To a later generation, recounting the praises of Yahweh, Even his might and his wonders which he wrought;
4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
4 We will (F)not conceal them from their children,But (G)tell to the generation to come the praises of the Lord,And His strength and His (H)wondrous works that He has done.
4 We must not hide them from their children,but must tell a future generationthe praises of the Lord,His might, and the wonderful worksHe has performed.(E)
4 We will not withhold them from their descendants; we'll declare to the next generation the praises of the LORD his might and awesome deeds that he has performed.
5 When he set up a testimony in Jacob, And, a law, appointed in Israel, - Which he commanded our fathers, That they might make them known to their children;

6 in order that the next generation children yet to be born will know them and in turn teach them to their children.
7 That they might set, in Elohim, their confidence, - And not forget the doings of El, But, his commandments, might observe;
7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

7 so that they might put their confidence in Godand not forget God’s works,but keep His commands.(H)
7 Then they will put their trust in God and they will not forget his awesome deeds. Instead, they will keep his commandments.
8 And not become, like their fathers, a generation stubborn and rebellious, - A generation that fixed not their heart, Neither was their spirit, faithful with GOD.
8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

8 Then they would not be like their fathers,a stubborn and rebellious generation,a generation whose heart was not loyaland whose spirit was not faithful to God.(I)
8 They will not be like the rebellious generation of their ancestors, a rebellious generation, whose heart was not steadfast, and whose spirits were unfaithful to God.
9 The sons of Ephraim - armed bowmen, Turned in the day of battle;
9 The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
9 The sons of Ephraim (e)were (V)archers equipped with bows,Yet (W)they turned back in the day of battle.
9 The descendants of Ephraim were sharp shooters with the bow, but they retreated in the day of battle.
12 In presence of their fathers, wrought he, wondrously, - In the land of Egypt - the field of Zoan:
12 Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
12 He performed marvelous things in the presence of their ancestors in the land of Egypt in the fields of Zoan.
13 He clave the sea, and caused them to pass through, And reared up the waters like a mound;
13 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

19 Yea they spake against Elohim, - They said, Can GOD prepare a table in the desert?

19 They spoke against God, saying,“Is God able to provide food in the wilderness?
19 They spoke against God by asking, "Is God able to prepare a feast in the desert?
20 Lo! he hath smitten a rock, And waters, have gushed out, Yea, torrents, have rushed along, - Food also, can he give? Or provide flesh for his people?
20 Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
20 “Behold, He (AM)struck the rock so that waters gushed out,And streams were overflowing;Can He give bread also?Will He provide (g)(AN)meat for His people?”
20 Look! He struck the rock and water gushed out;torrents overflowed.(T)But can He also provide breador furnish meat for His people?”(U)
20 It's true that Moses struck the rock so that water flowed forth and torrents of water gushed out, but is he also able to give bread or to supply meat for his people?"
21 Therefore, Yahweh hearkened, and became wroth, - And, a fire, was kindled against Jacob, Moreover also, anger, mounted against Israel;
21 Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
21 Therefore the Lord heard and (h)was (AO)full of wrath;And a fire was kindled against JacobAnd anger also mounted against Israel,
21 Therefore, the Lord heard and became furious;then fire broke out against Jacob,and anger flared up against Israel(V)

26 He let loose an east wind in the heavens, Then guided he, in his might, a south wind;

38 Yet, he, full of compassion, would put a propitiatory-covering over iniquity, and not destroy, - Yea, many a time, turned he back his anger, And would not stir up all his wrath.
38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

40 How often they, Resisted him in the desert, Vexed him, in the waste:
40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

49 He sent among them the heat of his anger, Wrath and indignation and distress, - A mission of messengers of misfortune:

58 And provoked him to anger with their high places, And, with their images, used to move him to jealousy.
