He answered them, “The Man who healed me and gave me back my strength was the One who said to me,
Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple and said to him,
Jesus looked up and saw that a large crowd was coming toward Him, and He said to Philip,
But He said this to test Philip, because He knew what He was about to do.
One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him,
Jesus said,
When they had eaten enough, He said to His disciples,

And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they asked Him, “Rabbi, when did You get here?”
Then they asked Him, “What are we to do, so that we may habitually be doing the works of God?”
So they said to Him, “What sign (attesting miracle) will You do that we may see it and believe You? What [supernatural] work will You do [as proof]?
Then Jesus said to them,
Now the Jews murmured and found fault with Him because He said,
And Jesus said to them,
He said these things in a synagogue while He was teaching in Capernaum.
When many of His disciples heard this, they said, “This is a difficult and harsh and offensive statement. Who can [be expected to] listen to it?”
But Jesus, aware that His disciples were complaining about it, asked them,

Listening to these words, some of the people said, “This is certainly the Prophet!”
Others said, “This is the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed)!” But others said, “Surely the Christ is not going to come out of Galilee, is He?
Then the Pharisees said to them, “Have you also been deluded and swept off your feet?
and they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the very act of adultery.
They said this to test Him, hoping that they would have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and began writing on the ground with His finger.
However, when they persisted in questioning Him, He straightened up and said,
Straightening up, Jesus said to her,
She answered, “No one, Lord!” And Jesus said,
Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said,
Then the Pharisees said to Him, “Where is this Father of Yours?” Jesus answered,
Jesus said these things in the treasury, as He taught in the temple [courtyard]; and no one seized Him, because His time had not yet come.
Then He said again to them,

So they said to Him, “Who are You [anyway]?” Jesus replied,
So Jesus was saying to the Jews who had believed Him,
They answered, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them,

The Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon [and are under its power]. Abraham died, and also the prophets; yet You say,
Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not even fifty years old, and You [claim to] have seen Abraham?”
When He had said this, He spat on the ground and made mud with His saliva, and He spread the mud [like an ointment] on the man’s eyes.
And He said to him,
So the neighbors, and those who used to know him as a beggar, said, “Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?”
Some said, “It is he.” Still others said, “No, but he looks like him.” But he kept saying, “I am the man.”
He replied, “The Man called Jesus made mud and smeared it on my eyes and told me,
They asked him, “Where is He?” He said, “I do not know.”
So the Pharisees asked him again how he received his sight. And he said to them, “He smeared mud on my eyes, and I washed, and now I see.”
Then some of the Pharisees said, “This Man [Jesus] is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath.” But others said, “How can a man who is a sinner (a non-observant Jew) do such signs and miracles?” So there was a difference of opinion among them.
Accordingly they said to the blind man again, “What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?” And he said, “[It must be that] He is a
His parents said this because they were afraid of [the leaders of] the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone acknowledged Jesus to be the Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue (excommunicated).
Because of this his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”
So a second time they called the man who had been [born] blind, and said to him, “Give God glory and praise [for your sight]! We know this Man [Jesus] is a sinner [separated from God].”
So they said to him, “What did He [actually] do to you? How did He open your eyes?”
Jesus heard that they had
Jesus said to him,
Then Jesus said,
Some Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and said to Him, “Are we also blind?”
Jesus said to them,
So Jesus said again,
Many of them said, “He has a demon and He is mad [insane—He raves and rambles]. Why listen to Him?”
Jesus answered them,

[if that is true]
Many came to Him, and they were saying, “John did not perform a single sign (attesting miracle), but everything John said about this Man was true and accurate.”
When Jesus heard this, He said,

She said to Him, “Yes, Lord; I have believed and continue to believe that You are the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed), the Son of God,
After she had said this, she left and called her sister Mary, privately whispering [to her], “The Teacher is here and is asking for you.”

So the Jews were saying, “See how He loved him [as a close friend]!”
But some of them said, “Could not this Man, who opened the blind man’s eyes, have kept this man from dying?”
Jesus said,

So they took away the stone. And Jesus raised His eyes [toward heaven] and said,
When He had said this, He shouted with a loud voice,
Out came the man who had been dead, his hands and feet tightly wrapped in burial cloths (linen strips), and with a [burial] cloth wrapped around his face. Jesus said to them,
So the chief priests and Pharisees convened a council [of the leaders in Israel], and said, “What are we doing? For this man performs many signs (attesting miracles).
But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, the one who was going to betray Him, said,
So Jesus said,
Then the Pharisees [argued and] said to one another, “You see that your efforts are futile. Look! The whole world has gone [running] after Him!”
The crowd of people who stood nearby and heard the voice said that it had thundered; others said, “An angel has spoken to Him!”
He said this to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die.
