So He said He would have destroyed them—
if Moses His chosen one
had not stood before Him in the breach
to turn His wrath away from destroying them.

For they made his spirit bitter, and he said unwise things.

They have not destroyed the peoples, As Jehovah had said to them,

Blessed is Jehovah, God of Israel, From the age even unto the age. And all the people said, 'Amen, praise Jah!'

For the mouth of the sinner is open against me in deceit: his tongue has said false things against me.

{A Psalm of David.} The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

I believed, even when I said,
“I am severely afflicted.”

In my alarm I said,
“Everyone is a liar.”

In my heart, have I treasured what thou hast said, to the end I may not sin against thee.

Confirm what You said to Your servant,
for it produces reverence for You.

Let your mercies come to me, O Lord, even your salvation, as you have said.

Remember what you said to your servant, by which you caused me to hope.

[Heth] You are my portion, O LORD: I have said that I would keep your words.

I have given my mind to do your pleasure with all my heart; have mercy on me, as you have said.

The men of pride have said false things about me; but I will keep your orders in my heart.

Let your mercy now be my comfort, as you have said to your servant.

Be my support as you have said, and give me life; let not my hope be turned to shame.

I look forward to the night watches, when I may meditate on what you have said.

Undertake my cause, and come to my help, give me life, as you have said.

I watch the treacherous, and despise them, because they do not do what you have said.

I find joy at what you have said like one who has discovered a great treasure.

Let my prayer come before you; take me out of trouble, as you have said.

I said, "O Lord, rescue me from those who lie with their lips and those who deceive with their tongue.

[A song of ascents. Of David.] I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the nations, The LORD has done great things for them.

And the passers by have not said, 'The blessing of Jehovah is on you, We blessed you in the Name of Jehovah!'

He said, "I will not enter my own home, or get into my bed.

The Lord made a reliable promise to David; he will not go back on his word. He said, "I will place one of your descendants on your throne.

He said, "This will be my resting place forever; I will live here, for I have chosen it.

Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Raze it, raze it, even to the foundation thereof.

I said unto the LORD, you are my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.

I cried unto you, O LORD: I said, you are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.

He taught me also, and said unto me, Let your heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

And hast said, 'How have I hated instruction, And reproof hath my heart despised,

So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

Who is simple? let him turn aside hither.' Whoso lacketh heart: she hath said to him,

Who is simple? let him turn aside hither.' And whoso lacketh heart -- she said to him,

The slothful hath said, 'A lion is without, In the midst of the broad places I am slain.'

For better it is that it be said unto you, Come up here; than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince whom your eyes have seen.

The slothful hath said, 'A lion is in the way, A lion is in the broad places.'

So hath a man deceived his neighbour, And hath said, 'Am not I playing?'

Lest I become satiated, and have denied, And have said, 'Who is Jehovah?' And lest I be poor, and have stolen, And have laid hold of the name of my God.

To the leech are two daughters, 'Give, give, Lo, three things are not satisfied, Four have not said 'Sufficiency;'

Sheol, and a restrained womb, Earth -- it is not satisfied with water, And fire -- it hath not said, 'Sufficiency,'

So -- the way of an adulterous woman, She hath eaten and hath wiped her mouth, And hath said, 'I have not done iniquity.'

All is to no purpose, said the Preacher, all the ways of man are to no purpose.

Is there a thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been long ago, in the ages which were before us.

I said to my heart, See, I have become great and am increased in wisdom more than any who were before me in Jerusalem--yes, my heart has seen much wisdom and knowledge.

I said in my heart, Come now, I will prove thee with mirth; therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also was vanity.

I said of laughter, It is mad; and of mirth, What doeth it?

Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so will it happen even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then said I in my heart, that this also is vanity.

I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

I said in my heart, It is because of the sons of men, that God may prove them, and that they may see that they themselves are but as beasts.

If a man doth beget a hundred, and live many years, and is great, because they are the days of his years, and his soul is not satisfied from the goodness, and also he hath not had a grave, I have said, 'Better than he is the untimely birth.'

Also, do not take seriously everything that is said, so that you will not hear your servant cursing you,

All this have I proved in wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it was far from me.

Look! this I have seen, said the Preacher, taking one thing after another to get the true account,

I said , The bidding of the king, observe thou, even out of regard to the oath of God.

There is a vanity which is done upon the earth, that there are righteous men unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

And also, when he that is a fool Is walking in the way, his heart is lacking, And he hath said to every one, 'He is a fool.'

If a snake gives a bite before the word of power is said, then there is no longer any use in the word of power.

Vanity of vanities, said the preacher, the whole is vanity.

This is the last word. All has been said. Have fear of God and keep his laws; because this is right for every man.

“Do not gaze at me because I am deeply tanned,
[I have worked in] the sun; it has left its mark on me.
My mother’s sons were angry with me;
They made me keeper of the vineyards,
But my own vineyard (my complexion) I have not kept.”

“Tell me, O you whom my soul loves,
Where do you pasture your flock,
Where do you make it lie down at noon?
For why should I be like one who is veiled
Beside the flocks of your companions?”

“To me, my love, you are like
My [favorite] mare among the chariots of Pharaoh.

That you do not rouse nor awaken my love
Until she pleases.”

My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.

In the sheltered and secret place of the steep pathway,
Let me see your face,
Let me hear your voice;
For your voice is sweet,
And your face is lovely.”

The watchmen that go about the city found me; To whom I said , Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

Your eyes behind your veil are like those of a dove;

As I was asleep, and my heart waking, I heard the voice of my beloved, when he knocked. Open to me, said he, O my sister, my love, my darling, my dove: for my head is full of dew, and my locks of my hair are full of the night drops.

I made the door open to my loved one; but my loved one had taken himself away, and was gone, my soul was feeble when his back was turned on me; I went after him, but I did not come near him; I said his name, but he gave me no answer.

Outstanding among ten thousand.

As lovely as Jerusalem,
As majestic as an army with banners!

But one is my dove, my darling. She is the only beloved of her mother, and dear unto her that bare her. When the daughters saw her, they said, she was blessed: Yea the Queens and concubines praised her.

I said, I will go up to the palm-tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof; And thy breasts shall indeed be like clusters of the vine, And the fragrance of thy nose like apples,

Gliding gently over his lips while he sleeps.
“I am my beloved’s,
And his desire is for me.

“Come, my beloved, let us go out into the country,
Let us spend the night in the villages.

On the day when she is spoken for [in marriage]?

Give ear, O heavens, and you, O earth, to the word which the Lord has said: I have taken care of my children till they became men, but their hearts have been turned away from me.

But if your hearts are turned against me, I will send destruction on you by the sword; so the Lord has said.

For this reason the Lord, the Lord of armies, the Strong One of Israel, has said, I will put an end to my haters, and send punishment on those who are against me;

And gone have many peoples and said, 'Come, and we go up unto the mount of Jehovah, Unto the house of the God of Jacob, And He doth teach us of His ways, And we walk in His paths, For from Zion goeth forth a law, And a word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.

Moreover Jehovah said, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with outstretched necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet;

And it hath been, he who is left in Zion, And he who is remaining in Jerusalem, 'Holy' is said of him, Of every one who is written for life in Jerusalem.

In mine ears Jehovah of hosts hath said, Many houses shall assuredly become a desolation, great and excellent ones, without inhabitant.

And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is Jehovah of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of hosts.

and he touched my mouth with it, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin forgiven.

And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I; send me.

And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
