Then He said to them, "But now the man who has a purse must take it, and a bag too. And the man who does not have a sword must sell his coat and buy one.
So they said, "Lord, look! here are two swords!" And He answered them, "Enough!"
Now when He reached the spot, He said to them, "Continue to pray that you may not be subjected to temptation."
Then He said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and keep praying that you may not be subjected to temptation."
Then Jesus said to him, "Judas, will you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?"
Those who were about Him saw what was about to take place, and said, "Lord, shall we use our swords now?"
But Jesus said, "Permit me to go as far as this!" So He touched his ear and healed him.
Then Jesus said to the high priests, captains of the temple, and elders, who had come to take Him, "Have you come out with swords and clubs as though I were a robber?
A servant girl saw him sitting by the fire and fixed her eyes on him and said, "This fellow was with Him too."
But he denied it and said, "I do not know Him, woman."
A little later a man looked at him and said, "You are one of them too." But Peter said, "Man, I am not."
But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you mean." And all at once, while he was still speaking, a cock crowed.
As soon as day came, the elders of the people, the high priests, and the scribes assembled, and brought Him back before their council, and said,
"Tell us, if you are the Christ." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe me,
Then they said, "What more evidence do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth!"
Then Pilate said to the high priests and crowds, "I do not find anything blameworthy in this man."
and said to them, "You brought this man to me on a charge of turning the people from allegiance, and here in your presence I have examined Him and do not find Him guilty of the charges you make against Him.
But Jesus turned to the women and said, "Women of Jerusalem, stop weeping for me, but continue to weep for yourselves and for your children.
But the other one reproved him and said, "Do you not fear even God when you are suffering the same penalty?
So He said to him, "I solemnly say to you, this very day you will be in paradise with me."
Then Jesus uttered a loud cry, and said, "Father, I now commit my spirit to your care." As He said this He breathed His last.
When the captain saw what had taken place, he praised God and said, "He certainly was an innocent man!"
Because the women were so frightened and were turning their faces to the ground, they said to them, "Why are you looking among the dead for Him who is alive?
He said that the Son of Man had to be turned over to wicked men and crucified, but was to rise again on the third day."
Then He said to them, "What is this that you are discussing together as you walk?" So they stopped and stood still with puzzled countenances.
And He said to them, "What sort of things?" They answered Him, "The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who in the sight of God and of all the people became a prophet mighty in deed and word,

Then He said to them, "O men sluggish in mind and slow in heart to believe all that the prophets have said!
but they earnestly urged Him, and said, "Stop and stay with us, for it is getting toward evening and the day is nearly spent." So He went in to stay with them.
Then they said to each other, "Did not our hearts keep burning in our bosoms as He was talking to us on the road, as He went on explaining the Scriptures to us?"
Even while they were talking about these things, He took His stand among them Himself, [and said to them, "Peace to you!"]
But He said to them, "Why are you so disturbed and why are doubts arising in your hearts?
[After He had said this He showed them His hands and His feet.]
Then He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you, that everything which is written about me in the law of Moses, in the prophets, and in the Psalms, had to be fulfilled."

He first found his brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means, the Christ).
Then he took him to Jesus. Jesus looked him over and said, "You are Simon, son of John. From now on your name shall be Cephas" (which means Peter, or Rock).
The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. So He sought out Philip and said to him, "Follow me."
Philip sought out Nathaniel and said to him, "We have found the One about whom Moses wrote in the law and the One about whom the prophets wrote; it is Jesus, the son of Joseph, who comes from Nazareth."
Then Nathaniel said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."
Jesus saw Nathaniel coming toward Him, and said of him, "Here is a genuine Israelite with no deceit in him!"
Nathaniel said to Him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "While you were still under the fig tree, before Philip called you, I saw you."
Then He said to him, "I most solemnly say to you all, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God going up, and coming down upon the Son of Man!"
When the wine was all gone, Jesus' mother said to Him, "They have no wine!"
Jesus said to her, "Woman, what have you to do with me? My time to act has not yet come."
His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever He tells you."
Jesus said to them, "Fill these jars with water." So they filled them up to the brim.
Then He said to them, "Now draw some out and take it to the manager of the feast." So they took him some.
and said to him, "Everybody, as a rule, serves his good wine first, and his poorer wine after people have drunk freely; you have kept the good wine till now."

So after He had risen from the dead, His disciples recalled that He had said this, and so believed the Scripture and the statement that He had made.

A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink."
So the Samaritan woman said to Him, "How is it that a Jew like you asks a Samaritan woman like me for a drink?" For Jews have nothing to do with Samaritans.
Jesus answered her, "If you just knew what God has to give and who it is that said to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have been the one to ask Him, and He would have given you living water."
She said to Him, "You have nothing to draw with, sir, and the well is deep. Where do you get your living water?
The woman said to Him, "Give me this water at once, sir, so I may never get thirsty again, nor have to come so far to draw water."
He said to her, "Go and call your husband and come back here."
The woman answered, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You were right in saying, 'I have no husband,'
for you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true."
The woman said to Him, "I see that you are a prophet.
Jesus said to her, "Believe me, woman, the time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
The woman said to Him, "I know that the Messiah is coming, the One who is called the Christ. When He comes, He will tell us everything."
Jesus said to her, "I, the very one who is talking to you, am He!"
The woman then left her pitcher and went back to town and said to the people,
But He said to them, "I have food to eat of which you do not know."
Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent me, and to finish His work.
Many of the Samaritans in that town believed in Him because of the woman's testimony, when she said, "He has told me everything I ever did."
Then a much larger number believed in Him because of what He said Himself,
