Elijah was a man of like passions with us, and he prayed that it might not rain, and it rained not on the land for three years and six months;

and again he prayed, and heaven gave rain, and the earth yielded her fruit.

in which they think it strange that you run not with them to the same excessive intemperance, blaspheming,

and hast made them a kingdom and priests, and they shall reign on the earth.

These have power to shut heaven, that it may not rain in the days of their prophecy, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and to smite the earth with every plague as often as they will.
