And they come again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders come to him and say to him, By what authority dost thou these things? And who gave thee authority to do these things? Jesus answering said to them, I also will ask you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. read more.
Was the baptism of John of heaven or of men? And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we say, from heaven, he will say, Why then did ye not believe him? But if we say, of men: they feared the people; for all accounted John, that he was indeed a prophet. And they answering say to Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith to them, Neither tell I you, by what authority I do these things.

And Jesus answering, as he taught in the temple, said, How say the scribes, that Christ is the Son of David? And Jesus sitting over-against the treasury, beheld how the people cast mony into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And a poor widow coming, cast in two mites, which make a farthing. And calling his disciples, he saith to them, Verily I say to you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all who have cast into the treasury. Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, Lo, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come to thee. The man departed and told the Jews, that it was Jesus who had made him whole. And therefore the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill him, because he had done these things on the sabbath. read more.
But Jesus answered them, My father worketh until now, and I work.

Now at the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught. And the Jews marvelled, saying, How doth this man know letters, having never learned? Jesus answered them and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. read more.
If any man be willing to do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. He that speaketh of himself, seeketh his own glory; but he that seekth the glory of him that sent him, the same is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him. Did not Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keepeth the law. Why seek ye to kill me? The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil. Who seeketh to kill thee? Jesus answered and said to them, I did one work, and ye all marvel at it. Moses gave you circumcision, (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers) and ye circumcise a man on the sabbath. If a man receive circumcision on the sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken: Are ye angry at me, because I intirely healed a man on the sabbath? Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment. Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he whom they seek to kill? And lo he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing to him. Do the rulers know indeed, that this is the Christ? Howbeit, we know this man, whence he is: but when Christ cometh, none knoweth whence he is. Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Do ye both know me, and know whence I am? And yet I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

And Jesus was walking in the temple, in Solomon's portico. Then came the Jews round about him, and said to him, How long dost thou keep us in suspense? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I have told you; yet ye do not believe: the works that I do in my Father's name, they testify of me. read more.
But, as I have told you, ye do not believe, because ye are not of my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any pluck them out of my hand. My Father, who gave them me, is greater than all; and none shall pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one. Then the Jews again took up stones to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, We stone thee not for a good work, but for blasphemy, and because thou, being a man, makest thyself God. Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, ye are gods? If he call them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the scripture cannot be broken) Say ye of him whom God hath sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest, because I said, I am the Son of God? If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. But if I do, tho' ye believe not me, believe the works; that ye may know and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. And while he executed the priest's office before God, in the order of his course, According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn the incense, going into the temple of the Lord. And the whole multitude of the people were praying without, at the time of incense. And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And Zacharias seeing him was troubled, and fear fell upon him. But the angel said to him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard, and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. And thou shalt have joy and exultation, and many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great before the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. And Zacharias said to the angel, Whereby shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife advanced in years. And the angel answering, said to him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God, and am sent to speak to thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings. And behold, thou shalt be deaf, and not able to speak, till the day that these things are done, because thou believedst not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season. And the people were waiting for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple. And coming out, he could not speak to them; and they perceived, that he had seen a vision; for he beckoned to them, and remained speechless. And when the days of his ministration were accomplished, he went to his own house.

Now Elisabeth's full time came, that she should be delivered, and she brought forth a son. And her neighbours and relations heard, that the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her, and they rejoiced with her. And on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. read more.
But his mother answering said, Nay, but he shall be called John. And they said to her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. And immediately his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, praising God.

And I heard another from the altar, saying, Yea, Lord God Almighty; true and righteous are thy judgments. And the fourth poured out his phial upon the sun; and it was given him to scorch the men with fire. And the men were scorched exceedingly, and blasphemed the name of God, who had power over these plagues: but they repented not to give him glory. And the fifth poured out his phial upon the throne of the wild beast; and his kingdom was darkened. And they gnawed their tongues for pain, and blasphemed the God of heaven, because of their pains, and because of their sores, and repented not of their works.
