I gave you your master's house, and put your master's wives into your arms. I also gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all that somehow seems insignificant, I would have given you so much more as well! Why have you shown contempt for the word of the Lord by doing evil in my sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and you have taken his wife as your own! You have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. So now the sword will never depart from your house. For you have despised me by taking the wife of Uriah the Hittite as your own!'

"The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure, hidden in a field, that a person found and hid. Then because of joy he went and sold all that he had and bought that field. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he found a pearl of great value, he went out and sold everything he had and bought it.

"For this reason, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his slaves.

"The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.

But Jesus said to him, "A man once gave a great banquet and invited many guests.

"For it is like a man going on a journey, who summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them.

Therefore he said, "A nobleman went to a distant country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return.

He then told them a parable: "The land of a certain rich man produced an abundant crop,

Then Jesus said, "A man had two sons. The younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of the estate that will belong to me.' So he divided his assets between them. After a few days, the younger son gathered together all he had and left on a journey to a distant country, and there he squandered his wealth with a wild lifestyle.

Jesus also said to the disciples, "There was a rich man who was informed of accusations that his manager was wasting his assets.

"Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

Command those who are rich in this world's goods not to be haughty or to set their hope on riches, which are uncertain, but on God who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment.

He is like a tree planted by flowing streams; it yields its fruit at the proper time, and its leaves never fall off. He succeeds in everything he attempts.

Praise the Lord! How blessed is the one who obeys the Lord, who takes great delight in keeping his commands. His descendants will be powerful on the earth; the godly will be blessed. His house contains wealth and riches; his integrity endures.

A poor person is disliked even by his neighbors, but those who love the rich are many.

Wealth adds many friends, but a poor person is separated from his friend.

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

The wealth of a rich person is like a fortified city, but the poor are brought to ruin by their poverty.

The wealth of a rich person is like a strong city, and it is like a high wall in his imagination.

Be careful not to say, "My own ability and skill have gotten me this wealth." You must remember the Lord your God, for he is the one who gives ability to get wealth; if you do this he will confirm his covenant that he made by oath to your ancestors, even as he has to this day.

He enabled him to travel over the high terrain of the land, and he ate of the produce of the fields. He provided honey for him from the cliffs, and olive oil from the hardest of rocks, butter from the herd and milk from the flock, along with the fat of lambs, rams and goats of Bashan, along with the best of the kernels of wheat; and from the juice of grapes you drank wine. But Jeshurun became fat and kicked, you got fat, thick, and stuffed! Then he deserted the God who made him, and treated the Rock who saved him with contempt.

The Lord says, "Wise people should not boast that they are wise. Powerful people should not boast that they are powerful. Rich people should not boast that they are rich. If people want to boast, they should boast about this: They should boast that they understand and know me. They should boast that they know and understand that I, the Lord, act out of faithfulness, fairness, and justice in the earth and that I desire people to do these things," says the Lord.

Why should I be afraid in times of trouble, when the sinful deeds of deceptive men threaten to overwhelm me? They trust in their wealth and boast in their great riches.

Why do you brag about your great power? Your power is ebbing away, you rebellious people of Ammon, who trust in your riches and say, 'Who would dare to attack us?'

Ephraim boasts, "I am very rich! I have become wealthy! In all that I have done to gain my wealth, no one can accuse me of any offense that is actually sinful."

Because you say, "I am rich and have acquired great wealth, and need nothing," but do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked,

The one who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.

They trust in their wealth and boast in their great riches.

"Look, here is the man who would not make God his protector! He trusted in his great wealth and was confident about his plans to destroy others."

Do not trust in what you can gain by oppression! Do not put false confidence in what you can gain by robbery! If wealth increases, do not become attached to it!

"Moab, you trust in the things you do and in your riches. So you too will be conquered. Your god Chemosh will go into exile along with his priests and his officials.

Wealthy people do not understand; they are like animals that perish.

A rich person is wise in his own eyes, but a discerning poor person can evaluate him properly.

A poor person who walks in his integrity is better than one who is perverse in his ways even though he is rich.

The one who oppresses the poor to increase his own gain and the one who gives to the rich -- both end up only in poverty.

Like a cage filled with the birds that have been caught, their houses are filled with the gains of their fraud and deceit. That is how they have gotten so rich and powerful. That is how they have grown fat and sleek. There is no limit to the evil things they do. They do not plead the cause of the fatherless in such a way as to win it. They do not defend the rights of the poor.

The person who gathers wealth by unjust means is like the partridge that broods over eggs but does not hatch them. Before his life is half over he will lose his ill-gotten gains. At the end of his life it will be clear he was a fool."

The city's rich men think nothing of resorting to violence; her inhabitants lie, their tongues speak deceptive words.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Isn't there more to life than food and more to the body than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky: They do not sow, or reap, or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you more valuable than they are? And which of you by worrying can add even one hour to his life?read more.
Why do you worry about clothing? Think about how the flowers of the field grow; they do not work or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these! But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. So then, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For there is more to life than food, and more to the body than clothing. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn, yet God feeds them. Surely one sees that even wise people die; fools and spiritually insensitive people all pass away and leave their wealth to others. Their grave becomes their permanent residence, their eternal dwelling place. They name their lands after themselves, but, despite their wealth, people do not last, they are like animals that perish.

What will you do on judgment day, when destruction arrives from a distant place? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your wealth?

For we have brought nothing into this world and so we cannot take a single thing out either.

But the rich person's pride should be in his humiliation, because he will pass away like a wildflower in the meadow. Seek the Lord and the strength he gives! Seek his presence continually!

The one who oppresses the poor insults his Creator, but whoever shows favor to the needy honors him.

A poor person who oppresses the weak is like a driving rain without food.

oppresses the poor and the needy, commits robbery, does not give back what was given in pledge, prays to idols, performs abominable acts, engages in usury and charges interest. Will he live? He will not! Because he has done all these abominable deeds he will certainly die. He will bear the responsibility for his own death.

The people of the land have practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have wronged the poor and needy; they have oppressed the foreigner who lives among them and denied them justice. "I looked for a man from among them who would repair the wall and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land, so that I would not destroy it, but I found no one. So I have poured my anger on them, and destroyed them with the fire of my fury. I hereby repay them for what they have done, declares the sovereign Lord."

But you have dishonored the poor! Are not the rich oppressing you and dragging you into the courts?

You have condemned and murdered the righteous person, although he does not resist you.

You have lived indulgently and luxuriously on the earth. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

"There was a rich man who dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. But at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus whose body was covered with sores, who longed to eat what fell from the rich man's table. In addition, the dogs came and licked his sores.read more.

He replied to him, 'If they do not respond to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.'"

Do they not blaspheme the good name of the one you belong to?

In this way they will save up a treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the future and so lay hold of what is truly life.

Tell them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, to be generous givers, sharing with others.

Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

As Jesus looked at him, he felt love for him and said, "You lack one thing. Go, sell whatever you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

John answered them, "The person who has two tunics must share with the person who has none, and the person who has food must do likewise."

But give from your heart to those in need, and then everything will be clean for you.
