Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD; my strength and my redeemer.
Thou hast proved and visited mine heart in the night season; thou hast tried me, and shalt find no wickedness in me, for I am utterly purposed that my mouth shall not offend.
{To the Chanter, for praising, a Psalm of David} I said, "I will take heed to my ways, that I offend not in my tongue. I will keep my mouth as it were with a bridle, while the ungodly is in my sight."
Let no filthy communication proceed out of your mouths: but that which is good to edify withal, when need is, that it may have favour with the hearers. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and let the lips of slander be far from thee.

What man is he that lusteth to live, and would fain see good days? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips, that they speak no guile.
For by him offer we the sacrifice of praise always to God: that is to say, the fruit of those lips, which confess his name.
{Of David, when he changed his speech before Abimelech; which drove him away, and he departed} I will always give thanks unto the LORD; his praise shall ever be in my mouth.
And as for my tongue, it shall be talking of thy righteousness and of thy praise, all the day long.

Let your speech be always well favoured and be powdered with salt, that ye may know how to answer every man.

The lips of the righteous are occupied in acceptable things; but the mouth of the ungodly taketh them to the worst.
A soft answer putteth down displeasure, but froward words provoke anger.
Fair words are a honeycomb, a refreshing of the mind, and health of the bones.
Then Daniel enquired Arioch the king's steward, of the judgment and sentence that was gone forth already to kill such as were wise at Babylon. He answered, and said to Arioch, being then the king's deputy, "Why hath the king proclaimed so cruel a sentence?" So Arioch told Daniel the matter. Upon this, went Daniel up, and desired the king, that he might have leisure to show the king the interpretation:
but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, and that with meekness and fear:
Heaviness discourageth the heart of man, but a good word maketh it glad again.
And Joseph said unto them, "Fear not, for am not I under God? Ye thought evil unto me: but God turned it unto good to bring to pass, as it is this day, even to save much people alive. Fear not therefore, for I will care for you and for your children." And he spake kindly unto them.
Behold, thou hast been a teacher of many, and hast comforted the weary hands. Thy words have set up those that were fallen, thou hast refreshed the weak knees.
We are evil spoken of, and we pray. We are made as it were the filthiness of the world, the offscouring of all things, even unto this time.
But the servant of the Lord must not strive: but must be peaceable unto all men, and apt to teach, and one that can suffer the evil in meekness, and can inform them that resist - if that God at any time will give them repentance for to know the truth -
Let the word of Christ dwell in you plenteously in all wisdom. Teach and exhort your own selves, in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs which have favour with them, singing in your hearts to the Lord.
A slanderous person pricketh like a sword; but a wise man's tongue is wholesome.
A wise tongue commendeth knowledge; a foolish mouth babbleth out nothing but foolishness.
A mouth of understanding is more worth than gold, many precious stones, and costly Jewels.
A word spoken in due season, is like apples of gold in a silver dish. The correction of the wise is, to an obedient ear, a golden chain and a Jewel of gold.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of grace.
For the priest's lips should be sure knowledge, that men may seek the law at his mouth, for he is a messenger of the LORD of Hosts.
But let us follow the truth in love, and in all things grow in him which is the head, that is to say Christ,
He is wise and discreet that tempereth his words; and he is a man of understanding, that maketh much of his spirit.
A righteous man museth in his mind how to do good; but the mind of the ungodly imagineth how he may do harm.
He that giveth sentence in a matter before he hear it, is a fool, and worthy to be confounded.
Wherefore, dear brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath.
But your communication shall be, 'Yea, Yea; Nay, nay': for whatsoever is more than that cometh of evil.
Even he that leadeth an uncorrupt life, and doeth the thing which is right, and speaketh the truth from his heart. He that hath used no deceit in his tongue, nor done evil to his neighbour, and hath not slandered his neighbours.
Let the righteous rather smite me friendly, and reprove me: so will I take it as though he had poured oil on my head; it shall not hurt my head. Yea, I will pray yet for their wickedness.
