Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
Jesus asked, "Have you understood all these things?" "Yes," they said to him.
And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house."
and he said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist, he has risen from the dead; that is why these powers are at work in him."
For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife,
because John had said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."
And though he wanted to put him to death, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet.
Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a lonely place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns.
When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food."
They said to him, "We have only five loaves here and two fish."
Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the multitudes.
But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out for fear.
And Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water."
Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"
Then those who were in the boat worshipped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."
And when the men of that place recognized him, they sent to all that surrounding region and brought to him all who were sick,
and begged him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment; and as many as touched it were made well.
For God commanded, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.'
And he called the people to him and said to them, "Hear and understand:
Then the disciples came and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?"
But Peter said to him, "Explain the parable to us."
And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and cried to him, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed."
But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, "Send her away, for she is crying out after us."
But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me!"
Then great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the maimed, the blind, the mute, and many others; and they laid them down at his feet, and he healed them.
Now Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have been with me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way."
Then his disciples said to him, "Where could we get enough bread in the wilderness to feed such a great crowd?"
Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him saying, "Never, Lord! This shall never happen to you!"
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"
And the disciples asked him, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
But I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. So also the Son of Man is about to suffer at their hands."
And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and kneeling before him said,
And I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him."
Then Jesus answered, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to me."
And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was cured from that moment.
and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day." And they were greatly distressed.
He said, "Yes." And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from others?"
And when Peter said, "From others," Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are free.
He called to him a little child, and put him in the midst of them,
"But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
"If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
Then Peter came to him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?"
Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.
When he began the settlement, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.
So the servant fell on his knees before him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.'
The master of that servant took pity on him, released him, and forgave him the debt.
But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, 'Pay me what you owe.'
So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you back.'
But he refused, and went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt.
Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.
And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
And large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.
Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?"
They said to him, "Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?"
The disciples said to him, "If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry."
For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it."
Then little children were brought to him that he might put his hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them.
Now behold, one came up and said to him, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to have eternal life?"
And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments."
He said to him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "'You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness,
The young man said to him, "All these I have kept. What do I still lack?"
Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
Then Peter answered him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed you. What then shall we have?"
They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.'
"Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn him to death,
and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day."
Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to him with her sons and, kneeling down, asked something of him.
And he said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom."
But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking for. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?" They said to him, "We are able."
But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.
And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed him.
They said to him, "Lord, let our eyes be opened."
And Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
The crowds that went before him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"
And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.
and they said to him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes. Have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise'?"
And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?"
The baptism of Johnwhere was it from? From heaven or from men?" And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?'
For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the harlots believed him; and even when you saw it, you did not afterward repent and believe him.
But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.'
So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him.
They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons."
[And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."]
But when they tried to arrest him, they feared the multitudes, because they held him to be a prophet.
And he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless.
Then the king said to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into the outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how to entangle him in his talk.
And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God in truth, and you care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men.
Show me the money for the tax." And they brought him a denarius.
When they heard it, they marveled; and they left him and went away.
That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him a question,
And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him.
Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
"What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "The son of David."
