And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham.
But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.
And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
And he said unto him, Well done, good servant: because you have been faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.
And he said likewise to him, Be also over five cities.
And he said unto him, Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was a severe man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping what I did not sow:
And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that has ten pounds.
For I say unto you, That unto everyone who has shall be given; and from him that has not, even what he has shall be taken away from him.
Saying, Go into the village opposite you; in which at your entering you shall find a colt tied, on which yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him here.
And if any man asks you, Why do you loose him? thus shall you say unto him, Because the Lord has need of him.
And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.
And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Teacher, rebuke your disciples.
And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief men of the people sought to destroy him,
And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders,
And spoke unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority do you these things? or who is he that gave you this authority?
And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did you not believe him?
And at the harvest season he sent a servant to the tenants, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the tenants beat him, and sent him away empty.
And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will respect him when they see him.
But when the tenants saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who should pretend themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that you say and teach rightly, neither do you regard any person, but teach the way of God truly:
Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,
For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
And after that they dared not ask him any question at all.
David therefore called him Lord, how is he then his son?
And they asked him, saying, Teacher, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?
And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, to hear him.
And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
And he went his way, and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
And they said unto him, Where will you that we prepare?
And he said unto them, Behold, when you are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he enters in.
And when the hour came, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
But, behold, the hand of him that betrays me is with me on the table.
But you shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that does serve.
And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with you, both into prison, and to death.
Then said he unto them, But now, he that has a purse, let him take it, and likewise his bag: and he that has no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
And he came out, and went, as was his custom, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
And while he yet spoke, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betray you the Son of man with a kiss?
When they who were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
And Jesus answered and said, No more of this. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, who were come to him, Do you come out, as against a thief, with swords and clubs?
Then they took him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.
But a certain maidservant beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
And after a little while another saw him, and said, you are also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
And after the space of about one hour another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilean.
And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crows, you shall deny me three times.
And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and struck him.
And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that struck you?
And many other things blasphemously spoke they against him.
And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.
And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
And Pilate asked him, saying, Are you the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, You say it.
And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad: for he was desirous to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.
Then he questioned him with many words; but he answered him nothing.
And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.
And Herod with his men of war despised him, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
Said unto them, You have brought this man unto me, as one that perverts the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man concerning those things of which you accuse him:
No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death was done by him.
And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil has he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.
And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming in from the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, who also bewailed and lamented him.
And there were also two others, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.
And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he is Christ, the chosen of God.
And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,
And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
And one of the malefactors who were hanged railed at him, saying, If you are Christ, save yourself and us.
But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Do you not fear God, seeing you are in the same condemnation?
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto you, Today shall you be with me in paradise.
And all his acquaintances, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.
And the women also, who came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid.
But their eyes were held that they should not know him.
And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Are you a stranger in Jerusalem, and have not known the things which have come to pass there in these days?
And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
And certain of them who were with us went to the sepulcher, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and a honeycomb.
And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
