Seek refuge, do not stand still,
For I am bringing
And great destruction.
My bowels! My bowels! I am pained in the walls of my heart My heart beateth aloud to me I cannot be still! For the sound of a horn, hast thou heard O my soul, The loud shout of war!
Although they say, "As surely as the LORD lives,' still they are swearing falsely."
They think not in their hearts, 'O let us fear the LORD our God, that giveth us rain, early and late, when need is: which keepeth ever still the harvest for us yearly.'
But still they took no note and would not give ear, but they made their necks stiff, doing worse than their fathers.

(Now Jeremiah had not yet been put in prison. So he was still free to come and go among the people as he pleased.

So Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, in Mizpah, and was living with him among the people who were still in the land.

This included the royal princesses and all the rest of the people in Mizpah that Nebuzaradan, the captain of the royal guard, had put under the authority of Gedaliah son of Ahikam.
