Blessed is the man who is always reverent; but the one who hardens his heart will fall into evil.

Blessed are the people who are in such a situation. Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD.

Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but he who keeps the law is blessed.

He who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is he who shows kindness to the poor.

He who heeds the Word finds prosperity, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.

"Behold, blessed is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise the chastening of Shaddai.

Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

Blessed is the man whom you discipline, LORD, and teach out of your Law;

If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear, neither be troubled."

A sound of terrors is in his ears. In prosperity the destroyer shall come on him.

While the flesh was yet between their teeth, before it was chewed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very great plague.

Surely you set them in slippery places. You throw them down to destruction. How they are suddenly destroyed. They are completely swept away with terrors. As a dream when one wakes up, so, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.

Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the lamp. I have seen the wicked in great power, spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. But he passed away, and behold, he was not. Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

When I tried to understand this, it was too painful for me;

You are righteous, LORD, when I contend with you; yet I would reason the cause with you: why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all at ease who deal very treacherously?

For I was envious of the arrogant, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

You who have purer eyes than to see evil, and who cannot look on perversity, why do you tolerate those who deal treacherously, and keep silent when the wicked swallows up the man who is more righteous than he,

and behold, joy and gladness, killing cattle and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine: "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die."

Therefore he sacrifices to his net, and burns incense to his dragnet, because by them his life is luxurious, and his food is good.

The harp, lyre, tambourine, and flute, with wine, are at their feasts; but they do not regard the work of the LORD, neither have they considered the operation of his hands.

They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.

Woe to those who rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; who stay late into the night, until wine inflames them.

Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the foremost of nations, to whom the house of Israel come.

Woe to you, you who are full now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.

Do not fret because of evildoers, neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness.
