choosing rather to suffer evil with the people of God, than to have an enjoyment of sin for a season;
for he will be great before the Lord; and he will drink no wine nor strong drink; and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.

And He went again by the sea; and all the multitude were coming to Him, and He was teaching them. And passing by, He saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax-office, and saith to him, "Follow Me." And, rising up, he followed Him.
And, after these things, He went forth, and beheld a tax-collector, Levi by name, sitting at the tax-office; and He said to him, "Follow Me." And, having forsaken all, rising up, he followed Him.
And, if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is good for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having the two hands to go into Hell--into the unquenchable fire!
Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in Heaven; and come, follow Me."
Then Peter, answering, said to Him, "Behold, we left all, and followed Thee; what, then, shall we have?"
Peter began to say to Him, "Behold, we left all, and followed Thee."
And every one who left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive manifold more and shall inherit eternal life.
Jesus said, "Verily I say to you, there is no one who left house, or brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or lands, for My sake and the Gospel's sake, but he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brothers, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.
And, having brought their boats to the land, leaving all, they followed Him.
"So, therefore, every one of you who does not renounce all his own goods, cannot be My disciple.
"But take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be weighed down with gluttony and drunkenness, and anxieties pertaining to life, and that day come upon you suddenly as a snare;
But I make not my soul of any value as dear to myself, so that I may accomplish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to fully testify the Gospel of the grace of God.
It could not be! How shall we, who died to sin, live any longer therein?
for, if ye live according to the flesh, ye are going to die; but, if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
I beseech you, therefore, brethren, through the mercies of God, to present, your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, well pleasing to God, which is your rational service;
but put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill its desires.
All things are lawful for me; but all are not profitable. All things are lawful for me; but I will not be brought under the control of any.
And every one who strives in the games exercises self restraint in all things; they, indeed, therefore, to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible. I, therefore, so run, as not uncertainly I so fight, as not beating the air. But I buffet my body, and bring it into bondage; lest, by any means, after having preached to others, I myself should be rejected.
and they did this not as we hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God;
I have been crucified with Christ; and no longer am I living, but Christ is living in me; and, in so far as I am now living in flesh, I live in the faith of the Son of God, Who loved me, and gave Himself for me.
If, therefore, one fully purify himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, serviceable to the Master, prepared for every good work.
teaching us, that, denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live soberly, and righteously, and godly in the present age; looking for the blissful hope and appearing of the glory of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ;
Submit yourselves, therefore, to God. But resist the Devil, and he will flee from you.
