The cities in the Negev will be locked up. There will be no one to reopen them. All the people of Judah will be taken away into captivity.

Jehovah will bring you and your king, whom you set over you, to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known. There you will serve other gods made of wood and stone.

They will be killed by the edge of the sword. Some will be led captive into all the nations. The people of the nations will tread down Jerusalem until the time of the Nations is fulfilled.

Jehovah will punish Israel, and she will shake like a reed shaking in a stream. He will uproot the people of Israel from this good land that he gave to their ancestors. He will scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they have aroused his anger by making idols of the goddess Asherah.

Some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away! They will become officers in the palace of the king of Babylon.'

Then we went away from the river of Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go to Jerusalem. The hand of our God was on us. He gave us salvation from our enemies and those who were waiting to attack us on the way.

My God sent his angel, and shut the lions' mouths. They did not hurt me. I was found innocent before him. I have done no wrong before you, O king.

Elisha prayed: O Jehovah, open his eyes that he may see. Jehovah answered his prayer. Elisha's servant looked up and saw the hillside covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

You are guilty because of the blood you have shed (people you have killed). You are unclean (dishonored) because of the disgusting idols you have made. You have brought an end to your days, and you have come to the end of your years. That is why I will make you a disgrace to the nations and a joke in every land.

I will make them a horrifying sight to all the kingdoms of the earth. They will be a disgrace and an example. They will become something ridiculed and cursed wherever I scatter them.

You will become a thing of revulsion. All the nations where Jehovah will send you will make an example of you and laugh at you.

I will have Israel cut off from the land I gave them. I will abandon this house even though I have made it holy for myself. I will put you out of my sight. Israel will be a public example, and a word of shame among all peoples.

You made our defeat a proverb among the nations so that people shake their heads at us.

He will come and destroy the renters and will give the vineyard to others. When they heard it, they said, God forbid!

Some of the branches are broken off. You, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them. Therefore you partake of the root and fatness of the olive tree with them.

Listen to another illustration. A master of a house made a vineyard, and put a wall around it. He made a wine press and built a tower. Then he rented it to workers and traveled to another country.

There were many who were appalled at him and his appearance was disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness.

Israel's Holy God and Savior says to the one who is deeply despised, hated by the nations and is the servant of rulers: Kings will see you released and will rise to show their respect. Princes will also see it and they will bow low to honor you.

He will be a place of safety for you. But he will be a rock that makes people trip and a stumbling block for both kingdoms of Israel. He will be a trap and a snare for those who live in Jerusalem. Many will stumble over them. They will fall and be broken. They will be trapped and caught.

Jehovah formed me in the womb to be his servant. I am to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to him. Jehovah honors me. My God has become my strength.

The Israelites lived in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They became rich and had many children.

The Israelites left Rameses to go to Succoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, plus all the women and children. Many other people also went with them, along with large numbers of sheep, goats, and cattle.

The children of Israel had many children. They became so numerous and strong that the land was filled with them. A new king, who knew nothing about Joseph, began to rule in Egypt. He said to his people: There are too many Israelites! They are stronger than we are. read more.
We must outsmart them or they will increase in number. If war breaks out they will leave the country and join our enemies to fight against us. However the more the Israelites were oppressed, the more they increased in number and spread out. The Egyptians could not stand them any longer. They forced the Israelites to work hard as slaves. They made their lives bitter with backbreaking work in mortar and bricks and every kind of work in the fields. All the jobs the Egyptians gave them were brutally hard work. The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives. Shiphrah and Puah were among them. He said: When you help the Hebrew women give birth on the birth stool, if it is a son you shall put him to death. If it is a daughter, then she shall live. The midwives respected God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them. They let the boys live. So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said: Why have you let the boys live? The midwives replied to Pharaoh: Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women. They are vigorous and give birth before the midwife can get to them. God was good to the midwives, and the people multiplied, and became very mighty.

Jehovah made his people grow rapidly in number and stronger than their enemies.

When the time of God's promise to Abraham drew near, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt.

Jehovah said: Two nations are within you. You will give birth to two rival peoples. One will be stronger than the other. The older will serve the younger.

You will live by your sword. You will serve your brother. Soon you will become restless and break his yoke from your neck.

Jehovah said to Abram: Know this for sure; your offspring will be strangers (aliens) in a land that is not theirs. They will be slaves there, and they shall be oppressed for four hundred years.

He brought him outside and said: Look toward heaven and count the stars. Are you able to count them? He continued: So shall your descendants be.

May God give you of the dew of heaven, the fatness of the earth, and an abundance of grain and new wine. May peoples serve you. And nations bow down to you. Be master of your brothers. And may your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be those who curse you. Blessed be those who bless you.

When you buy a Hebrew slave he will be your slave for six years. In the seventh year he may leave as a free man without paying for his freedom.

Joseph was served at a table by himself. His brothers were served at another. The Egyptians sat at yet another table. This is because Egyptians felt it was disgusting to eat with Hebrews.

Live in booths for seven days. Everyone born in Israel must live in booths.

God spoke to this effect, that his seed would be alien residents in a strange land. They would enslave them, and mistreat them for four hundred years.

Now this I say: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise.

Jehovah said to Abram: Know this for sure; your offspring will be strangers (aliens) in a land that is not theirs. They will be slaves there, and they shall be oppressed for four hundred years.

The Israelites had been living in Egypt for four hundred and thirty years. After exactly four hundred and thirty years all of Jehovah's people left Egypt in organized family groups.

The man said: Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel (He Struggles With God), because you have struggled with God and with men and you have won.

God said to him: Your name is Jacob. You shall no longer be called Jacob. Israel shall be your name. Thus He called him Israel.

So to this day they go on in their old ways. They do not worship Jehovah. They do not keep his orders, his ways, or the law Jehovah gave to the children of Jacob. They are the ones he gave the name Israel.

Truly, for forty years you were their support in the wilderness. They needed nothing. Their clothing did not get old or their feet become tired.

He brought Israel out with silver and gold, and no one among his tribes stumbled.

Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eye was not dim, nor his vigor abated.

He humbled you (allowed you to suffer) with hunger and then fed you with manna. Neither you nor your fathers had seen this before. He did this to teach you that a person cannot live on bread alone but must live on all (everything) (every word) that proceeds from the mouth of Jehovah. Your clothes did not wear out! And your feet did not swell these past forty years.

I led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not worn out on you. Your sandal has not worn out on your foot. You have not eaten bread. You have not drunk wine or strong drink. This in order that you might know that I am Jehovah your God.

He let the poorest of the land go on living there, to take care of the vines and the fields.

There were people who were still living in the land of Judah. Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, did not take them captive. He made Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, ruler over them. The captains of the armed forces heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah ruler. They brought their men to Gedaliah at Mizpah. Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan, the son of Kareah, and Seraiah, the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah, the son of the Maacathite, came with all their men.

He left in the land of Judah some of the poorest people, who owned no property, and he gave them vineyards and fields.

All the army commanders and their men who were in the field heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, to govern the country and some of the country's poorest men, women, and children who had not been taken away to Babylon. These are the commanders who went with their men to Gedaliah at Mizpah: Ishmael son of Nethaniah, Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai from Netophah, and Jezaniah, who was the son of a man from Maacah. Gedaliah, son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan, swore an oath to them and their men. He said: Do not be afraid to serve the Babylonians. Live in this country, serve the king of Babylon, and you will prosper. read more.
I am going to live in Mizpah and represent you when the Babylonians come to us. Gather grapes, summer fruit, and olive oil, and put them in storage jars. Live in the cities you have taken over. All the Jews who were in Moab, Ammon, Edom, and in all the other countries heard that the king of Babylon had left a few survivors in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah, son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan, to govern them. So all the Jews returned from all the places where they had been scattered. They came to Judah and to Gedaliah at Mizpah. They gathered a large harvest of grapes and summer fruit.

Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, left some of the poorest people in the land to work in the vineyards and on the farms.

The angel of God, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them. The pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them. So it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel. There was the cloud along with the darkness, yet it gave light at night. Thus the one did not come near the other all night. Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. Jehovah swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night and turned the sea into dry land. The waters were divided. read more.
The Israelites went through the middle of the sea on dry ground. The water stood like a wall on their right and on their left.

And what He did to Egypt's army, to its horses and its chariots, when He made the water of the Red Sea engulf them while they pursued. Jehovah completely destroyed them!

The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you live. When I see the blood I will pass over you. No plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.

The Egyptians could not see each other. No one left his house during that time. The Israelites, however, had light where they were living.

The region of Goshen, where the Israelites lived, was the only place where there was no hail.

But against any of the sons of Israel a dog will not even bark, whether against man or beast. This is so you may understand how Jehovah makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.

At that same time I will cut off the land of Goshen where my people live. No swarms of flies shall be there. / Then you will know that I am Jehovah in the midst of the earth. I will put a dividing line between my people and your people. This sign will happen tomorrow.'

Jehovah said to Moses: You and Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of Israel's elders come up the mountain to me and worship at a distance. Moses alone may come near Jehovah. The others may not. The people must not come along with Moses. Moses told the people all Jehovah's words and legal decisions. Then all the people answered with one voice: We will do everything Jehovah told us to do. read more.
Moses wrote down all Jehovah's words. Early the next morning he built an altar at the foot of the mountain. He erected twelve sacred stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.

When he was in Jerusalem at the Passover feast, many saw the signs he did and expressed active faith in his name.

Many of the Jews, who came to Mary and saw what he did, believed in him.

This is because by reason of Lazarus many of the Jews believed in Jesus.

Many believed in him there.

Those who heard it glorified God. They said to him: You see brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews who have believed. They are all zealous for the law.

Joseph was already in Egypt. The total number of Jacob's descendants was seventy.

The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah. (Er and Onan died in Canaan.) The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. The sons of Issachar were Tola, Puvah, Iob, and Shimron. The sons of Zebulun were Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. These were the sons Leah gave to Jacob in Paddan-aram, in addition to his daughter Dinah. The total number of these sons and daughters was thirty-three. The sons of Gad were Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli. The sons of Asher were Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, and Beriah. Their sister was Serah. The sons of Beriah were Heber and Malchiel. These were the descendants of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah. She gave birth to these children for Jacob. The total was sixteen. The sons of Jacob's wife Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin. In Egypt, Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph by Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest from the city of On. The sons of Benjamin were Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. These were the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob. The total was fourteen. The son of Dan was Hushim. The sons of Naphtali were Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem. These were the descendants of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel. She gave birth to these sons for Jacob. The total was seven. The total number of Jacob's direct descendants who went with him to Egypt was sixty-six. This did not include the wives of Jacob's sons. Joseph had two sons who were born in Egypt. There were a total of seventy people in Jacob's household who went to Egypt.

Your fathers traveled to Egypt, seventy persons in all. Now Jehovah your God has made you as numerous as the stars of the universe (physical heavens).

Then Joseph sent for his father Jacob and all his family, seventy-five people.

So Asa went to rest with his fathers and was buried in the town of David his father. Jehoshaphat his son became king in his place.

Jehoshaphat died and was buried in the royal tombs in David's City and his son Jehoram succeeded him as king.

Therefore, behold, I will entice her into the wilderness, and speak kindly to her. I will give her vineyards from there and the valley of Achor for a door of hope. She will sing there as in the days of her youth and in the day when she came up out of Egypt. It will be at that day, said Jehovah; you will call me 'husband' (Ishi). The earth will answer the grain, and the new wine, and the oil; and they will answer Jezreel. And I will sow her to me in the earth! I will have mercy (compassion) on her who had not obtained mercy. I will say to those who were not my people: 'You are my people!' They will answer: 'You are my God!'

I will not carry out my fierce anger. I will not turn and devastate Ephraim. I am not man. I am God, the Holy One among you. I will not come against my city in wrath. They will follow Jehovah! He will roar like a lion. When he roars, his children will come trembling from the west. They will come trembling like birds from Egypt, like doves from Assyria. I will settle them in their homes, declares Jehovah.

They have the opportunity to live again, but they are not smart enough to take it. They are like a baby who is about to be born but will not come out of its mother's womb. I will ransom them from the power of the grave. I will redeem them from death! O death, where are your stings (plagues)? O grave, where is your destruction (devastation)? Compassion will be concealed from my eyes. (1 Co 15:54-57)

O Ephraim, what more have I to do with idols? It is I who answer and look after you. I am like a luxuriant cypress and fruit comes from me.

When the Philistines heard the noise, they asked: What is all this shouting in the Hebrew camp? The Philistines found out that Jehovah's ark was brought into the camp.

No blacksmith could be found in all of Israel. In this way the Philistines kept the Hebrews from making swords and spears.

I was circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

So they let the Philistines see them. The Philistines said: Some Hebrews are coming out of the holes they were hiding in!

Jonathan defeated the Philistine troops at Geba. The Philistines heard about it. With the sounding of the trumpet throughout the land, Saul announced: Let the Hebrews listen!

He brought him outside and said: Look toward heaven and count the stars. Are you able to count them? He continued: So shall your descendants be.

I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies' cities.

I will give you as many descendants as there are stars in the sky. I will give your descendants all of this land. They will be a blessing to every nation on earth.

I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth. If anyone could count the dust, your offspring could be counted.
